  • The rise of 5G and the proliferation of smart devices have underscored the significance of multi-access edge computing (MEC). Amidst this trend, interest in effectively processing computation-intensive and latency-sensitive applications has increased. This study investigated a novel task offloading strategy considering the probabilistic MEC environment to address these challenges. Initially, we considered the frequency of dynamic task requests and the unstable conditions of wireless channels to propose a method for minimizing vehicle power consumption and latency. Subsequently, our research delved into a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) based offloading technique, offering a way to achieve equilibrium between local computation and offloading transmission power. We analyzed the power consumption and queuing latency of vehicles using the deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) and deep Q-network (DQN) techniques. Finally, we derived and validated the optimal performance enhancement strategy in a vehicle based MEC environment.

  • There have been various studies in Korea to develop a %IMF(Intramuscular Fat Percentage) estimation method suitable for Hanwoo. Recently, a %IMF estimation method using a convolutional neural network (CNN), a kind of deep learning method among artificial intelligence methods, has been studied. In this study, we performed a performance comparison when various preprocessing methods were applied to the %IMF estimation of ultrasound images using CNN as mentioned above. The preprocessing methods used in this study are normalization, histogram equalization, edge enhancement, and a method combining normalization and edge enhancement. When estimating the %IMF of Hanwoo by the conventional method that did not apply preprocessing in the experiment, the accuracy was 98.2%. The other hand, we found that the accuracy improved to 99.5% when using preprocessing with histogram equalization alone or combined regularization and edge enhancement.

  • In this paper, we propose a reference picture generation method for Inter-layer prediction based deep learning to improve the SHVC coding performance. A description will be given of a structure for performing filtering using a VDSR network on a DCT-IF based upsampled picture to generate a new reference picture and a training method for generating a reference picture between SHVC Inter-layer. The proposed method is implemented based on SHM 12.0. In order to evaluate the performance, we compare the method of generating Inter-layer predictor by applying dictionary learning. As a result, the coding performance of the enhancement layer showed a bitrate reduction of up to 13.14% compared to the method using dictionary learning, a bitrate reduction of up to 15.39% compared to SHM, and a bitrate reduction of 6.46% on average.

  • In this paper, we explore the enhancement of target detection accuracy in the guided weapon using deep learning object detection on infrared (IR) images. Due to the characteristics of IR images being influenced by factors such as time and temperature, it's crucial to ensure a consistent representation of object features in various environments when training the model. A simple way to address this is by emphasizing the features of target objects and reducing noise within the infrared images through appropriate pre-processing techniques. However, in previous studies, there has not been sufficient discussion on pre-processing methods in learning deep learning models based on infrared images. In this paper, we aim to investigate the impact of image pre-processing techniques on infrared image-based training for object detection. To achieve this, we analyze the pre-processing results on infrared images that utilized global or local information from the video and the image. In addition, in order to confirm the impact of images converted by each pre-processing technique on object detector training, we learn the YOLOX target detector for images processed by various pre-processing methods and analyze them. In particular, the results of the experiments using the CLAHE (Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization) shows the highest detection accuracy with a mean average precision (mAP) of 81.9%.

  • In this paper, we propose a new algorithm to remove acoustic feedback and noise in hearing aids. Instead of using the conventional FIR structure, this algorithm is a deep learning algorithm using neural network adaptive prediction filter to improve the feedback and noise reduction performance. The feedback canceller first removes the feedback signal from the microphone signal and then removes the noise using the Wiener filter technique. Noise elimination is to estimate the speech from the speech signal containing noise using the linear prediction model according to the periodicity of the speech signal. In order to ensure stable convergence of two adaptive systems in a loop, coefficient updates of the feedback canceller and noise canceller are separated and converged using the residual error signal generated after the cancellation. In order to verify the performance of the feedback and noise canceller proposed in this study, a simulation program was written and simulated. Experimental results show that the proposed deep learning algorithm improves the signal to feedback ratio(: SFR) of about 10 dB in the feedback canceller and the signal to noise ratio enhancement(: SNRE) of about 3 dB in the noise canceller than the conventional FIR structure.

  • In this paper, the learning technique for CNN processor on vehicle is proposed. In the case of conventional CNN processors, weighted values learned through training are stored for use, but when there is distortion in the image due to the weather conditions, the accuracy is decreased. Therefore, the method of enhancing the input image for classification is general, but it has the weakness of increasing the processor size. To solve this problem, the CNN performance was improved in this paper through the learning method of the distorted image. As a result, the proposed method showed improvement of approximately 38% better accuracy than the conventional method.

  • Slow sync is a photography technique where a user takes an image with long exposure and a camera flash to enlighten the foreground and background. Unlike short exposure with flash and long exposure without flash, slow sync guarantees the bright foreground and background in the dim environment. However, taking a slow sync image with a smartphone is difficult because the smartphone camera has continuous and weak flash and can not turn on flash if the exposure time is long. This paper proposes a deep learning method that input is a short exposure flash image and output is a slow sync image. We present a deep learning network with a weight map for spatially varying enlightenment. We also propose a dataset that consists of smartphone short exposure flash images and slow sync images for supervised learning. We utilize the linearity of a RAW image to synthesize a slow sync image from short exposure flash and long exposure no-flash images. Experimental results show that our method trained with our dataset synthesizes slow sync images effectively.

  • Satellite imageries are at a greatest importance for land cover examining. Numerous studies have been conducted with satellite images and uses semantic segmentation techniques to extract information which has higher altitude viewpoint. The device which is taking these images must employee wireless communication links to send them to receiving ground stations. Wireless communications from a satellite are inevitably affected due to transmission errors. Evidently images which are being transmitted are distorted because of the information loss. Current semantic segmentation techniques are not made for segmenting distorted images. Traditional image enhancement methods have their own limitations when they are used for satellite images enhancement. This paper proposes an auto-encoder based image pre-enhancing method for satellite images. As a distorted satellite images dataset, images received from a real radio transmitter were used. Training process of the proposed auto-encoder was done by letting it learn to produce a proper approximation of the source image which was sent by the image transmitter. Unlike traditional image enhancing methods, the proposed method was able to provide more applicable image to a segmentation model. Results showed that by using the proposed pre-enhancing technique, segmentation results have been greatly improved. Enhancements made to the aerial images are contributed the correct assessment of land resources.

  • With recent development of high-speed wide-area wireless networks and wide spread of highperformance wireless devices, the demand on seamless video streaming services in Long Term Evolution (LTE) network environments is ever increasing. To meet the demand and provide enhanced Quality of Experience (QoE) with mobile users, the Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) has been actively studied to achieve QoE enhanced video streaming service in dynamic network environments. However, the existing DASH algorithm to select the quality of requesting video segments is based on a procedural algorithm so that it reveals a limitation to adapt its performance to dynamic network situations. To overcome this limitation this paper proposes a novel quality selection mechanism based on a Deep Q-Network (DQN) model, the DQN-based DASH ABR($DQN_{ABR}$) mechanism. The $DQN_{ABR}$ mechanism replaces the existing DASH ABR algorithm with an intelligent deep learning model which optimizes service quality to mobile users through reinforcement learning. Compared to the existing approaches, the experimental analysis shows that the proposed solution outperforms in terms of adapting to dynamic wireless network situations and improving QoE experience of end users.
