  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the immediate effects of alternative treatment methods in lowering the blood pressure and pulse of prehypertensive patients. Methods: A total of 48 prehypertensive patients were randomly divided into 4 groups of 12 patients and each group received a different intervention. The control group was made to rest, the heat pack (HP) group received heat pack treatment, the ultrasound (US) group received an ultrasound massage, and the myofascial release (MFR) group received myofascial release. The blood pressure and pulse rate were measured before and after intervention. Results: Following intervention, the patients of the MFR group showed a decrease in systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, and pulse rate. Although blood pressure was similar in all groups, a significant decrease in pulse rate was seen in the MFR group compared to others. Conclusion: The application of MFR was shown to be an effective method for lowering the blood pressure and pulse rate in prehypertensive patients.

  • Foreign investors who invest in the Korean stock markets are exposed to two kinds of foreign exchange rate risk, the economic exposure and the translation exposure. The former is the foreign exchange rate exposure in return generating process of the assets invested and the latter is the foreign exchange rate exposure in the translation of domestic return into foreign investors' currency. Domestic investors, however, are exposed only to foreign exchange rate exposure in the asset invested. This different situation on foreign exchange rate exposure between foreign investors and domestic investors can induce different response to exchange rate change by investor groups. Previous studies on foreign exchange rate exposure of Korean firms reported that quite a few Korean firms are exposed to foreign exchange risks and suggested to manage the foreign exchange risks. Also, many studies on the market segmentation showed that a market can be practically segmented according to the characteristics of investor groups. These studies support the hypothesis that the Korean stock market can be practically segmented by the foreign investors' attitude to the foreign exchange rate exposure. This study examines the response of both foreign investors and domestic investors to the foreign exchange rate exposures in Korean stock markets. Test results show that foreign investors increase their sell transactions when the foreign exchange rate exposure of the previous day is negative. This result can be possible when foreign investors attempt to actively manage the decrease in value of their assets due to rising of exchange rate. Analysis on the sell order data is also supportive to this interpretation. Foreign investors also increase their buy transactions when the foreign exchange rate exposure of the previous day is negative. This result can be possible when foreign investors use actively the relation between the increase in asset value and the translation gain due to declining of exchange rate. Analyses on buy order data, however, do not show the same result as the analyses on transaction data. This difference may come from the difference of information contained in transaction data and order data. In summary, the result of the paper supports the hypothesis that foreign investors response differently to foreign exchange rate exposure compared with domestic, Korean investors. Two groups do not show different response when exchange rate exposure is positive, i.e., as foreign exchange rate is increase (decrease), the asset value is increase (decrease). However, foreign investors' response is different from that of domestic investors when exchange rate exposure is negative, i.e., as foreign exchange rate is increase (decrease), the asset value is decrease (increase). These results mean that foreign investors and domestic investors are placed in different situations related to foreign exchange rate exposure, and these differences are reflected in the Korean stock markets. And domestic investors need to consider foreign investors' different attitude to the foreign exchange rate exposure when they analysis foreign investors' trading behavior.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the quality of reporting for case reports published in Journal of Oriental Neuropsychiatry from year 2018 to 2021 compared with year 2013 to 2017 in order to recommend ways to improve the quality of case reports published in the future. Methods: To evaluate the quality of case reports identified by electronic searching in Oriental medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System (OASIS) and by hand searching from archives on peer review system of Journal of Oriental Neuropsychiatry using CAse REport (CARE) guideline. The researcher assessed the quality of reporting based on the CARE guideline as 'Sufficient', 'Not-Sufficient', 'Not-Applicable', and 'Not-Reported' for case reports published from 2018 to 2021 in Journal of Oriental Neuropsychiatry. In addition, it was compared with previous case reports published from 2013 to 2017. Results: Finally, 17 case reports were included for the assessment. General quality of reporting for case reports published from year 2018 to 2021 was improved compared with that of previous case reports published in 2018. The maximum value (46.4%→60.7%, 14.3% increase), the minimum value (22.2%→32.1%, 9.9% increase), and the median value (39.3%→50.0%, 10.7% increase) of the report rate evaluated as 'Sufficient' were generally improved. The maximum value (53.6%→50.0%, 3.6% decrease), minimum value (25.9%→21.4%, 4.5% decrease), and median value (35.7%→32.1%, 3.6% decrease) of the report rate evaluated as 'Not-Sufficient', the maximum value of the report rate evaluated as 'Not-reported' (40.7%→25.9%, 14.8% decrease), the minimum value (14.7%→10.7% decrease), and the intermediate value (14.7% decrease) were also generally improved. Four items (8b, 8d, 10c, and 13) were evaluated as 'Not-Reported'. These items seem to be items that need urgent improvement along with 8c, which showed a significant decrease in reporting rate. Conclusions: There are needs to improve the quality of case reports in Journal of Oriental Neuropsychiatry by comparing case reports published from year 2013 to 2017 with case reports published from year 2018 to 2021. To improve the quality of case reporting, sufficient education at the academic level should be provided on thesis preparation methods. It is also necessary to develop a tool for evaluating the quality of case reporting that reflects characteristics of Korean Medicine.

  • In order to elucidate toxic the mechanism of myocardial damage and the protective effect of herbal extract, Sophorae Radix(SR) against myocardiotoxicity, the cytotoxic effect of adriamycin and cardioprotective effect of SR were examined by MTT assay, LDH activity, heart beat rate and light microscopy after cultured myocardial cells derived from neonatal mouse were treated with various concentrations of adriamycin, an inducer of myocardiotoxicity. Adriamycin induced a decrease of cell viability, an increase in the amount of lactate dehydrogenase(LDH), and a decrease in the heart beat rate and a decrease in the number of cells, when administered to cultures myocardial cells in a dose-dependent manner. In cardioprotective effect of SR. SR showed the decrease of amount of LDH, and an increase of heart beating rate and cells in number on cultured myocardial cells damaged by adriamycin. From the above results, it is suggested that adriamycin shows toxic effect in cultured myocardial cells derived from a neonatal mouse, and herbal extract such as SR is very effective in the prevention of adriamycin-induced cardiotoxicity.

  • An eight-week-old male ICR mouse, which was induced with acute alcohol and sub-acute alcohol poisoning condition, was administered with bohee tea(Camelia sinensis L) extract. After oral administration of bohee tea and inducement of acute alcohol poisoning condition, the mouses blood alcohol concentration became as low as that of the normal control group. Its decrease rate was 87.26%, in comparison with that of the positive control group. Moreover, its blood GOT activity decreased with a rate of 93.1 % until it reached the normal level, as opposed to that of the positive control group. In addition, the GOT activity, despite rising after the alcohol intake, decreased(p<0.05) significantly after administration of each sample and reached the normal level. The bohee tea group experienced a significant decrease in the GOT activity, compared with the A1codex group and the Drink group. The GPT activity of the Alcodex group decreased by 11 % compared with that of the positive control group. The CTP activity of the bohee tea group decreased by 8.2%, while that of the Drink group decreased by 6.5%(P<0.05). However, there were no significant differences between the results in the control group and those of the test group. The bohee tea group's hepatic ADH activity increased by 22.7% compared with that of the positive control group. On the other hand, the hepatic ADH activity of the Drink group increased by 33.6% while that of the A1codex group increased by 20.4%. On the contrary, the bohee tea extract, the hepatic ALDH did not manifest any significant difference as compared with the normal control group. However, its decrease rate was about 16.67% as compared with that of the positive control group. The Drink group, meanwhile, obtained a decrease rate of about 21.59%.

  • To investigate the effect of snowfall on the traffic of general roads in Gangwon-do, case analysis was performed in Gangneung, Pyeongchang, and Chuncheon using ASOS (Automated Synoptic Observing System) snowfall data and VDS (Vehicle Detector System) traffic data. First, we analyzed how much the traffic volume and speed decrease in snowfall cases on regional roads compared to non-snow cases, and the characteristics of monthly reduction due to snowfall were investigated. In addition, Pearson correlation analysis and regression analysis were performed to quantitatively grasp the effect of snowfall on traffic volume and speed, and sensitivity tests for snowfall intensity and cumulative snowfall were performed. The results showed that the amount of snowfall caused decrease both in the traffic volume and speed from usual (non-snowfall) condition. However, the trend was different by region: The decrease rate in traffic volume was in the order of Gangneung (17~22%), Chuncheon (14~17%), and Pyeongchang (11~14%). The decrease rate in traffic speed was in the order of Chuncheon (9~10%), Gangneung (8~9%), Pyeongchang (5~6%). No significant results were found in the monthly decrease rate analysis. In all regions, traffic volume and speed showed a negative correlation with snowfall. It was confirmed that the greater the amount of traffic entering the road, the greater the slope of the trend line indicating the change in snowfall due to the traffic volume. As a result of the sensitivity test for snowfall intensity and cumulative snowfall, the snowfall information at intervals of 6-hours was the most significant.

  • This study has been conducted with continuous dental sanitary education for primary school pupils for five years from 1997 through 2001, based on data obtained from a 97' survey on primary school pupils' recognition on dental hygiene education and their permanent dental health capacity. Following results were drawn through comparative analysis of data obtained during the survey period. Approx 70.77% of the examinees have experienced decay missing feeling (DMF) in the year 2001, suggesting a good effectiveness of dental hygiene education compared with 92.1 % of DMF rate in 1997. It has been found that pupils' knowledge and recognition on dental hygiene and management, etc were improved, as well as their eating habits and consciousness were changed. Comparative analysis of annual DMF showed that DMF rate, DMFT index, and DT rate were found to decrease every year, suggesting a improved dental health capacity. Grade level analysis revealed that DMFT index and DT rate were found to decrease every year during the survey period, suggesting pupils' dental management and consciousness were improved and changed. It has been found that DMF rate more significantly increased in a higher grade in 2001 than 1997. There was no difference in DMF rate between grades of primary school in 1997. However, in the year 2001 increment of approx 10% of DMF rate were observed in a higher grade.

  • As circuits become increasingly complex and devices sizes shrinks, the demands placed on global planarization of higher level. Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP) is an indispensable manufacturing process used to achieve global planarity. In the CMP process, Diamond Disk (DD) plays an important role in the maintenance of removal rate. According to studies, the cause of removal rate decrease in the early or end stage of diamond disk lifetime comes from pad surface change. We also presented pad cutting rate (PCR) as a useful cutting ability index of DD and studied PCR trend about variable parameters that including size, hardness, shape of DD and RPM, pressure of conditioner It has been shown that PCR control ability of pressure and shape is superior to RPM and size. High pressure leads to a decrease of cell open ratio of pad surface because polyurethane of pad is destroyed by pressure. So low pressure high RPM condition is a proper removal rate sustain. By examining correlations between RPM and pressure of conditioner, it has been shown that PCR safe zoneto satisfy proper removal rate has the range 0.06mm/hr to 0.12mm/hr.

  • This paper describes an experimental investigation of the effect of cooling flow rate on gas foil thrust bearing (GFTB) performance. In a newly developed GFTB test rig, a non-contact type pneumatic cylinder provides static loads to the test GFTB and a high-speed motor rotates a thrust runner up to the maximum speed of 80 krpm. Force sensor, torque arm connected to another force sensor, and thermocouples measures the applied static load, drag torque, and bearing temperature, respectively, for cooling flow rates of 0, 25, and 50 LPM at static loads of 50, 100, and 150 N. The test GFTB with the outer radius of 31.5 mm has six top foils supported on bump foil structures. During the series of tests, the transient responses of the bearing drag torque and bearing temperature are recorded until the bearing temperature converges with time for each cooling flow rate and static load. The test data show that the converged temperature decreases with increasing cooling flow rate and increases with increasing static load. The drag torque and friction coefficient decrease with increasing cooling flow rate, which may be attributed to the decrease in viscosity and lubricant (air) temperature. These test results suggest that an increase in cooling flow rate improves GFTB performance.

  • Physiological responses of rice to the flooding time of different water turbidity (clear water, sub-muddy water, muddy water) were analyzed as photosynthesis, chlorophyll fluorescence, transpiration, and physiological recovery. Photosynthetic rate was higher as turbidity increased and decreased as flooding time was extended. Floodings of 36 hrs and 42 hrs were resulted in 25% and 50% decrease of photosynthetic rate, respectively. Transpiration rate was higher in high turbidity (increased 30%, 25%, and 20% in clear, sub-muddy, and muddy water, respectively) and in increased floodings. Fv/Fm decreased as increased turbidity and flooding time. About 20% decrease of Fv/Fm was recorded in 48 hrs and 36 hrs after flooding with clear water and sub-muddy water(including muddy water), respectively. Total nitrogen was decreased with flooding treatment. Significant decrease of total nitrogen was occurred 36 hrs after flooding with muddy water, Dry weight measured 2 weeks after flooding treatment as an indication of recovery of flooding stress didn't show significant difference with turbidity, but significantly decreased as flooding time was prolonged. About 25% and 50% decreases were found in 24 hrs and 42 hrs flooding time, respectively. furthermore, 48 hrs of flooding with sub-muddy and muddy water resulted in no physiological recovery. Photosynthetic rate was decreased 15% and 10% with clear water and muddy water(including sub-muddy water), respectively. The rate was dramatically decreased 42 hrs after flooding. Transpiration rate increased about 20% regardless of turbidity and flooding time. We found transitory decrease of photosynthetic and transpiration rate at the point of 24 hrs after flooding and right after do-flooding.
