  • This paper proposes the method of facial expression recognition based on decision tree structure. In the image of facial expression, ASM(Active Shape Model) and LBP(Local Binary Pattern) make the local features of a facial expressions extracted. The discriminant features gotten from local features make the two facial expressions of all combination classified. Through the sum of true related to classification, the combination of facial expression and local region are decided. The integration of branch classifications generates decision tree. The facial expression recognition based on decision tree shows better recognition performance than the method which doesn't use that.

  • PURPOSES : To operate more efficient traffic management system, it is utmost important to detect the change in congestion level on a freeway segment rapidly and reliably. This study aims to develop classification method of congestion change type. METHODS: This research proposes two classification methods to capture the change of the congestion level on freeway segments using the dedicated short range communication (DSRC) data and the vehicle detection system (VDS) data. For developing the classification methods, the decision tree models were employed in which the independent variable is the change in congestion level and the covariates are the DSRC and VDS data collected from the freeway segments in Korea. RESULTS : The comparison results show that the decision tree model with DSRC data are better than the decision tree model with VDS data. Specifically, the decision tree model using DSRC data with better fits show approximately 95% accuracies. CONCLUSIONS : It is expected that the congestion change type classified using the decision tree models could play an important role in future freeway traffic management strategy.

  • This paper suggests the method to recognize the various defect patterns of cold mill strip using binary decision tree constructed by genetic algorithm automatically. In case of classifying the complex the complex patterns with high similarity like the defect patterns of cold mill strip, the selection of the optimal feature set and the structure of recognizer is important for high recognition rate. In this paper genetic algorithm is used to select a subset of the suitable features at each node in binary decision tree. The feature subset of maximum fitness is chosen and the patterns are classified into two classes by linear decision function. After this process is repeated at each node until all the patterns are classified respectively into individual classes. In this way , binary decision tree classifier is constructed automatically. After construction binary decision tree, the final recognizer is accomplished by the learning process of neural network using a set of standard p tterns at each node. In this paper, binary decision tree classifier is applied to recognition of the defect patterns of cold mill strip and the experimental results are given to show the usefulness of the proposed scheme.

  • This paper suggests a method to recognize the various defect patterns of a cold mill strip using a binary decision tree automatically constructed by a genetic algorithm(GA). In classifying complex patterns with high similarity like the defect patterns of a cold mill stirp, the selection of an optimal feature set and an appropriate recognizer is important to achieve high recognition rate. In this paper a GA is used to select a subset of the suitable features at each node in the binary decision tree. The feature subset with maximum fitness is chosen and the patterns are classified into two classes using a linear decision function. This process is repeated at each node until all the patterns are classified into individual classes. In this way, the classifier using the binary decision tree is constructed automatically. After constructing the binary decision tree, the final recognizer is accomplished by having neural network learning sits of standard patterns at each node. • Objectives : In the clinical field, it is important to understand the factors that have effects on a certain disease or symptom. For this, many researchers apply Data Mining method to the clinical data that they have collected. One of the efficient methods for Data Mining is decision tree induction. Many researchers have studied to find the best split criteria of decision tree; however, various split criteria coexist. Methods : In this paper, we applied several split criteria(Information Gain, Gini Index, Chi-Square) to Sasang constitutional clinical information and compared each decision tree in order to find optimal split criteria. Results & Conclusion : We found BMI and body measurement factors are important factors to Sasang constitution by analyzing produced decision trees with different split measures. And the decision tree using information gain had the highest accuracy. However, the decision tree that produced highest accuracy is changed depending on given data. So, researcher have to try to find proper split criteria for given data by understanding attribute of the given data.

  • Data mining is a process of discovering useful patterns or information from large amount of data. Decision tree is one of the data mining algorithms that can be used for both classification and prediction and has been widely used for various applications because of its flexibility and interpretability. Decision trees for classification generally generate a number of rules that belong to one of the predefined category and some rules may belong to the same category. In this case, it is necessary to determine the significance of each rule so as to provide the priority of the rule with users. The purpose of this paper is to propose a rule selection method in classification tree models that accommodate the umber of observation, accuracy, and effectiveness in each rule. Our experiments demonstrate that the proposed method produce better performance compared to other existing rule selection methods.

  • Sasanag Contitution Medicine(SCM) is the traditional medicine theory based on constitutional medicine in Korea. It is most import ant that a personal SCM type is determined accurately ahead of applying any Sasang treatments. For this, many researches have been studied to diagnose the SCM type using constitutional clinical data. The decision tree is a tree-structured data-mining methodology. Recently, in the Korean traditional medicine society, there have been several efforts to find diagnosing tools using the decision tree method. So, we developed a decision tree program based on web for analyzing constitutional clinical information. It can use various clinical data as input data, offer filtering function to select clinical data to be used. We can find useful factor to be influential on SCM types using this program.

  • Since the data is collected from disparate sources in many actual data mining environments, it is common to have data values in different abstraction levels. This paper shows that such multiple abstraction levels of data can cause undesirable effects in decision tree classification. After explaining that equalizing abstraction levels by force cannot provide satisfactory solutions of this problem, it presents a method to utilize the data as it is. The proposed method accommodates the generalization/specialization relationship between data values in both of the construction and the class assignment phase of decision tree classification. The experimental results show that the proposed method reduces classification error rates significantly when multiple abstraction levels of data are involved.

  • The tree method can be extended to multivariate responses, such as repeated measure and longitudinal data, by modifying the split function so as to accommodate multiple responses. Recently, some decision trees for multiple responses have been constructed by Segal (1992) and Zhang (1998). Segal suggested a tree can analyze continuous longitudinal response using Mahalanobis distance for within node homogeneity measures and Zhang suggested a tree can analyze multiple binary responses using generalized entropy criterion which is proportional to maximum likelihood of joint distribution of multiple binary responses. In this paper, we will modify CART procedure and suggest a new tree-based method that can analyze multiple binary responses using similarity measures.

  • Knowledge acquisition is a bottleneck in knowledge-based system implementation. Decision tree induction is a useful machine learning approach for extracting classification knowledge from a set of training examples. Many real-world data contain fuzziness due to observation error, uncertainty, subjective judgement, and so on. To cope with this problem of real-world data, there have been some works on fuzzy classification rule learning. This paper makes a survey for the kinds of fuzzy classification rules. In addition, it presents a fuzzy classification rule learning method based on decision tree induction, and shows some experiment results for the method.
