Firm Heterogeneity and Location Choice: The Case of South Korean Manufacturing Multinationals

  • Previous studies of location choice have focused on country-level data more than firm-level data and been more concerned with host countries' distinctive features than with firm heterogeneity. Therefore, they do not answer the question of who will go where in terms of location choice. To analyze the role of firm heterogeneity in determining location choice, we develop a theoretical model and analyze data on 3,644 Korean manufacturing multinationals operating in 87 countries between 1982 and 2006. The results of our conditional logit analysis indicate that not only host country characteristics but also firm heterogeneous factors such as productivity, labor intensity, and size have considerable influence on the decision of where to locate FDI.

CRM using short range location based technology

  • In this paper, we propose the CRM service model for analyzing and managing location based data collected by Wi-Fi and BLE. As mobile devices became personalized, enterprises became interested in individual location, and location based mobile marketing started to stand on spotlight. Location based proximity marketing is developing along with contactless data transmission technology, and payment system that uses NFC, Beacon that utilizes BLE, as well as advertisement via Wi-Fi are being serviced. We suggest the model that mobile devices can be detected and identified by MAC address with the need of being connected to Wi-FI or Bluetooth interface. MAC addresses are not associated with any specific user account or mobile phone number. The idea is to be able to measure the amount of people which are present in a certain point at a specific time, allowing the study of the evolution of data analysis and offers effective information for decision-makings.

  • 다차원 데이터 집합에서 서로 지배되지 않는 데이터로 구성된 부분 집합을 스카이라인이라고 한다. 스카이라인 계산은 다차원 데이터를 대상으로 한 의사결정에 유용한 연산이다. 그러나 스카이라인이 지나치게 큰 경우 이를 의사결정에 활용하기 어려울 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 사용자가 제시하는 원점의 이동, 원점으로부터의 각도와 거리 정보를 반영하여 스카이라인의 일부를 효율적으로 구하는 방법을 모색하였다. 제안한 알고리즘은 스카이라인에 속하지 않는 데이터를 신속하게 제거해가며, 사용자의 요구를 점진적으로 반영할 수 있다는 특징을 갖는다. 알고리즘의 효율성은 실험을 통해 검증하였다.

머신러닝 기법을 활용한 대졸 구직자 취업 예측모델에 관한 연구 (Study on the Prediction Model for Employment of University Graduates Using Machine Learning Classification)

  • Purpose Youth unemployment is a social problem that continues to emerge in Korea. In this study, we create a model that predicts the employment of college graduates using decision tree, random forest and artificial neural network among machine learning techniques and compare the performance between each model through prediction results. Design/methodology/approach In this study, the data processing was performed, including the acquisition of the college graduates' vocational path survey data first, then the selection of independent variables and setting up dependent variables. We use R to create decision tree, random forest, and artificial neural network models and predicted whether college graduates were employed through each model. And at the end, the performance of each model was compared and evaluated. Findings The results showed that the random forest model had the highest performance, and the artificial neural network model had a narrow difference in performance than the decision tree model. In the decision-making tree model, key nodes were selected as to whether they receive economic support from their families, major affiliates, the route of obtaining information for jobs at universities, the importance of working income when choosing jobs and the location of graduation universities. Identifying the importance of variables in the random forest model, whether they receive economic support from their families as important variables, majors, the route to obtaining job information, the degree of irritating feelings for a month, and the location of the graduating university were selected.

승차인원정보를 제공하는 버스정보시스템 (Bus Information System Providing Passenger Number Information)

  • 본 논문은 버스 승차인원정보를 제공하는 버스정보시스템의 구현을 목적으로 한다. 최근 버스정보시스템의 도입을 통하여 버스 이용자에게 다양한 위치위반 정보를 제공함으로써 편의성을 제공하고 있다. 그러나 쾌적한 버스를 이용하기 위하여 버스 선택을 위한 의사결정에 필요한 정보의 제공이 요구된다. 이를 위하여 승차인원 정보 제공의 필요성을 분석하고 GPS와 RFID 방식의 교통카드를 활용하여 위치 및 승차 인원정보를 수집, 가공하였으며 다양한 정보표시 시스템을 통하여 정보를 제공할 수 있도록 구현하였다. 제안한 시스템은 기존의 버스정보시스템에서 제공되는 버스위치기반 관련 정보와 더불어 버스 이용객의 의사결정을 위한 주요한 요소인 승차인원 정보를 제공함으로써 쾌적한 버스이용과 효율적인 버스 관리의 장점을 제공한다.

종합슈퍼마켓의 입지 결정 요인에 관한 연구 : 천안상권을 중심으로 (A Study on the Locational Decision Factors of Discount Stores : The Case of Cheonan)

  • 본 논문에서는 기존의 상권과 상업시설의 입지 이론 등을 기초자료로 활용하여 종합슈퍼마켓 입지 결정에 미치는 요인들을 규명하고자 연구하였다. 종합슈퍼마켓 입지에 영향을 미칠 것으로 1차적으로 고려된 21개의 변수를 공통요인으로 묶은 결과 종합슈퍼마켓 입지에 미치는 요인으로 5개의 요인이 도출 되었다. 이중에서 잠재적 구매력 수준을 나타내는 인구적 요인이 가장 크게 영향을 끼치는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 개개의 점포들이 위치한 상권을 중심으로 분석한 결과 인구적인 요인 이외에도 각각의 독특한 입지적 특성을 갖고 있다는 것을 밝혀 낼 수 있었다. 각각의 종합슈퍼마켓들의 입지 요인으로서 그 영향력이 다양하게 나타난 것은, 종합슈퍼마켓의 주변지역이 어떠한 물리적 특성을 가지고 있는지가 추가로 고려되어야 한다는 것을 의미한다. 기존의 여러 연구에서 상업시설 입지결정요인으로서, 경제적 요인, 인구적 요인, 토지이용 요인, 교통적 요인 등의 4가지로 분류하던 것을 한국 현실에 맞게 재편성하여 더욱 설득력 높은 구체적인 5가지 요인으로 제안하였다는 점에서 본 연구의 의미가 있다. 즉 본 연구를 통해 종합슈퍼마켓의 입지결정요인으로서 절대적으로 인구가 많은 곳, 주택이 밀집한 곳, 높은 소득의 주민이 거주하는 곳, 도로 교통이 발달되어 접근이 쉬운 곳, 대중교통이 발달한 곳이 선호된다는 점을 밝혀내었다. 첫째, 제 1요인으로서 인구적 요인은 종합슈퍼마켓 입지에 가장 큰 영향을 주는데, 개별소비자보다는 가구수와 밀접한 연관성을 나타내고 있다. 둘째, 제 2요인으로서 종합슈퍼마켓은 주택이 밀집된 곳을 비교적 선호하면서 입지하고 있는데, 이는 소비자의 접근이 양호하기 때문이다. 셋째, 제 3요인으로서는 주민의 소득수준이 높아서 대형승용차를 소유하고 도로교통 여건이 우수한 부유한 곳이 선호된다. 넷째, 제 4요인으로서는 상권 주변의 인접도로가 발달되어서 접근성이 좋을 경우 선호되는 지역으로 평가받고 있다. 다섯째, 제 5요인으로서 주부 등 여성 소비자들이 종합슈퍼마켓의 가장 중요한 고객임을 고려할 때, 이 계층이 가장 빈번하게 이용할 수 있도록 버스 정류장으로부터 종합슈퍼마켓의 거리가 가까운 곳이 입지 요인으로서 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 소비자의 행태 및 선호도에 관한 변수는 제외시키고 물리적인 공간자료를 통해 종합슈퍼마켓의 입지 요인을 미시적인 관점에서 살펴보았다. 앞으로 추가로 진출 할 가능성이 충분한 기타 여러 도시에서 이러한 공간적 특성에 따른 입지 형태를 살펴봄으로써 대형 할인점의 진출 장소를 선택하거나 1차 사업성 분석에서 소요되는 시간을 단축시킬 수 있을 것이다. 또한 본 연구 결과는 대형 유통시설 공간 확보를 위한 공공정책 분야에도 도움이 될 것으로 판단된다.

Analytic Hierarchy Process Modelling of Location Competitiveness for a Regional Logistics Distribution Center Serving Northeast Asia

  • Purpose - As the global product network expands through both internationalization and diversification of the multimodal transportation system, corporate strategies have shifted to emphasize the importance of a high value-added international logistics system. To guide policies and strategies to attract relevant industries, this study aims to analyze the location competitiveness of regional logistics distribution center to serve Northeast Asia. Design/methodology - Multi-criteria techniques are considered to offer a promising framework for evaluating decision-making factors. This paper employed an analytic hierarchy process to analyze the hierarchal structure of determinants for selecting the location of a regional logistics distribution center. Adopting both qualitative and quantitative evaluations, this study suggest political implications for a regional logistics distribution center development, such as the direction of political support, service differentiation and infrastructure development. Findings - This study developed a location competitiveness evaluation model, based on the case study of the major port-cities in Northeast Asia. Evaluation model incorporates five factors underpinning 17 components extracted using factor analysis. The results revealed that the logistics factor is the most significant factor for evaluating the competitiveness of a regional logistics distribution center. The remaining factors were market, costs, and services environment. Comparing qualitative and quantitative evaluations, results provide useful insights for a regional logistics distribution center development in Northeast Asia. Originality/value - This study revealed differences between qualitative and quantitative evaluations. The finding implies that prior works on evaluation models of competitiveness has not successfully measured the gap between quantitative data and expert' evaluations. To overcome this limitation, this paper considered both actual data such as actual distance, cost, the number of companies located, and expert opinions.

A Study on the Implement of AI-based Integrated Smart Fire Safety (ISFS) System in Public Facility

  • Even at this point in the era of digital transformation, we are still facing many problems in the safety sector that cannot prevent the occurrence or spread of human casualties. When you are in an unexpected emergency, it is often difficult to respond only with human physical ability. Human casualties continue to occur at construction sites, manufacturing plants, and multi-use facilities used by many people in everyday life. If you encounter a situation where normal judgment is impossible in the event of an emergency at a life site where there are still many safety blind spots, it is difficult to cope with the existing manual guidance method. New variable guidance technology, which combines artificial intelligence and digital twin, can make it possible to prevent casualties by processing large amounts of data needed to derive appropriate countermeasures in real time beyond identifying what safety accidents occurred in unexpected crisis situations. When a simple control method that divides and monitors several CCTVs is digitally converted and combined with artificial intelligence and 3D digital twin control technology, intelligence augmentation (IA) effect can be achieved that strengthens the safety decision-making ability required in real time. With the enforcement of the Serious Disaster Enterprise Punishment Act, the importance of distributing a smart location guidance system that urgently solves the decision-making delay that occurs in safety accidents at various industrial sites and strengthens the real-time decision-making ability of field workers and managers is highlighted. The smart location guidance system that combines artificial intelligence and digital twin consists of AIoT HW equipment, wireless communication NW equipment, and intelligent SW platform. The intelligent SW platform consists of Builder that supports digital twin modeling, Watch that meets real-time control based on synchronization between real objects and digital twin models, and Simulator that supports the development and verification of various safety management scenarios using intelligent agents. The smart location guidance system provides on-site monitoring using IoT equipment, CCTV-linked intelligent image analysis, intelligent operating procedures that support workflow modeling to immediately reflect the needs of the site, situational location guidance, and digital twin virtual fencing access control technology. This paper examines the limitations of traditional fixed passive guidance methods, analyzes global technology development trends to overcome them, identifies the digital transformation properties required to switch to intelligent variable smart location guidance methods, explains the characteristics and components of AI-based public facility smart fire safety integrated system (ISFS).

스마트한 상황인지를 적용한 도플러 레이더 센서 기반의 정밀 위치추정 시스템 (A Precise Location Tracking System with Smart Context-Awareness Based-on Doppler Radar Sensors)

  • Today, detecting the location of moving object has been traced as various methods in our world. In this paper, we preset the system to improve the estimation accuracy utilizing detail localization using radar sensor based on WSN and situational awareness for a calibration (context aware) database, Rail concept. A variety of existing location tracking method has a problem with receiving of data and accuracy as tracking methodology, and since these located data are the only data to be collected for location tracing, the context aware or monitering as the surrounding environment is limited. So, in this paper, we enhanced the distance aware accuracy using radar sensor utilizing the Doppler effect among the distance measuring method, estimated the location using the Triangulation algorithm. Also, since we composed the environment data(temperature, illuminancem, humidity, noise) to entry of the database, it can be utilized in location-based service according to the later action information inference and positive context decision. In order to verify the validity of the suggested method, we give a few random situation and built test bed of designed node, and over the various test we proved the utilizing the context information through route tracking of moving and data processing.

국내(國內) 패션기업(企業)의 사회지향적(社會指向的) 마케팅 실천(實踐)에 관한 연구(硏究) (A Study on the Practice of Social Marketing in Domestic Fashion Business)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the practice d social marketing of fashion business in Korea. A questionnaire was designed by the researcher and consisted of items of 30 items of social marketing practice in fashion business. Responsers are administrators and merchandisers who work in fashion business. Data were analyged using SPSS by frequency, mean, standard deviation, $x^2$-test, ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test. The results of this study were as follows : 1. In decision-making method of social marketing, degrees of practice were shown comparatively high. And, three practice factors (consumerism, humanism, and environmentalism) showed indifference in six business characteristics (store type, staff number, annual budget, annual education method, education frequency, and the location). 2. In feedforward method of social marketing, degrees of practice were shown comparatively high. And, two practice factors (business strategy, and product strategy) showed indifference in seven business characteristics (date of establishment, store type, staff number, annual budget, education method, annual education frequency, and the location). 3. In administrative method of social marketing, degrees d practice were shown comparatively high. And, four practice factors (product development, price decision, distribution management, and advertisement and promotion) showed indifference in eight business characteristics (date d establishment, store type, staff number, annual budget, education method, annual education frequency, the location, and distribution structure). 4. In total system method of social marketing, degrees of practice were shown comparatively high. And, two practice factors (marketing planning, and self-audits system) showed indifference in six business characteristics (business size, store type, annual budget, education method, annual education frequency, and distribution structure). The present findings provide that social marketing of fashion business in korea has been practiced comparatively high.
