A Simplified Procedure for Performance-Based Design

  • This paper focuses on providing a practical approach for decision making in Performance-Based Design (PBD). Satisfactory performance is defined by several performance objectives that place limits on direct (monetary) loss and on a tolerable probability of collapse. No specific limits are placed on conventional engineering parameters such as forces or deformations, although it is assumed that sound capacity design principles are followed in the design process. The proposed design procedure incorporates different performance objectives up front, before the structural system is created, and assists engineers in making informed decisions on the choice of an effective structural system and its stiffness (period), base shear strength, and other important global structural parameters. The tools needed to implement this design process are (1) hazard curves for a specific ground motion intensity measure, (2) mean loss curves for structural and nonstructural subsystems, (3) structural response curves that relate, for different structural systems, a ground motion intensity measure to the engineering demand parameter (e.g., interstory drift or floor acceleration) on which the subsystem loss depends, and (4) collapse fragility curves. Since the proposed procedure facilitates decision making in the conceptual design process, it is referred to as a Design Decision Support System, DDSS. Implementation of the DDSS is illustrated in an example to demonstrate its practicality.

  • Many studies in risk management have been focused on management process, contract relation, and risk analysis in the past decade, but very few studies have addressed project risks from the perspective of risk efficiency. This study started with using Fault Tree Analysis to develop a framework for the decision-making support system of risk management from the perspective of risk efficiency, in order for the support system to find risk strategies of optimal combination for the project manager by the trade-off between project risk and cost of project strategies. Comprehensive and realistic risk strategies must strive for optimal decisions that minimize project risks and risk strategies cost while addressing important data such as risk causes, risk probability, risk impact and risk strategies cost. The risk management in the construction phase of building projects in Taiwan upon important data has been analyzed, that provided the data for support system to include 247 risk causes. Then, 17 risk causes were extracted to demonstrates the decision-making support system of risk management from the perspective of risk efficiency in building project of Taiwan which could reach better combination type of risk strategies for the project manager by the trade-off between risk cost and project risk.

  • Social media platforms have become an integral part of our daily lives, and they generate vast amounts of data that can be analyzed for various purposes. However, the quality of the data obtained from social media is often questionable due to factors such as noise, bias, and incompleteness. Enhancing data quality is crucial to ensure the reliability and validity of the results obtained from such data. This paper proposes an enhanced decision-making framework based on Business Decision Management Systems (BDMS) that addresses these challenges by incorporating a data quality enhancement component. The framework includes a backtracking method to improve plan failures and risk-taking abilities and a steep optimized strategy to enhance training plan and resource management, all of which contribute to improving the quality of the data. We examine the efficacy of the proposed framework through research data, which provides evidence of its ability to increase the level of effectiveness and performance by enhancing data quality. Additionally, we demonstrate the reliability of the proposed framework through simulation analysis, which includes true positive analysis, performance analysis, error analysis, and accuracy analysis. This research contributes to the field of business intelligence by providing a framework that addresses critical data quality challenges faced by organizations in decision-making environments.

  • 기업의 전략적 의사결정자는 불확실성과 복잡성에 직면해왔다. 그리고 그들은 이러한 환경 하에서 의사결정을 내려야 함에도 불구하고 그들의 의사결정에 필요한 충분한 시간, 인력, 예산, 그리고 지식이 충분히 주어지지 않는다. 그래서 그들은 그 분야에 대한 암묵적 지식을 지닌 전문가들의 지원을 받는 수 밖에 없다. 그러나 의사결정자들이 어떤 문제에 직면할 때 마다 의사결정에 필요한 새로운 지식을 창조하고 변형하고 결합하고 응용하는 다른 절차나 방법을 발견하는 것은 매우 어렵다. 본 논문은 노나카에 의해 제안된 지식변환과정을 이용함으로써 전략적 의사결정을 지원할 새로운 방법을 제안한다. 본 연구는 컨설팅 산업분야에서 전략적 의사결정의 응용사례를 예시한다. 이 논문은 제안된 방법에 기초한 의사결정지원기법으로서 인지지도를 사용한다.

상황 온톨로지를 이용한 동적 의사결정시스템 (Dynamic Decision Making using Social Context based on Ontology)

  • 본 연구는 사용자의 정적, 외부환경과 연관된 동적 상황정보와 사회적 관계와 연관된 개인적 상황정보들을 의사결정 요소로서 고려한 의사결정의 동적 변환(Dynamic Adaptation)을 제안한다. 즉, 의사결정자의 정적, 외재적 정보보다 과거의 경험, 주관적 선호도 및 사회적 관계와 연관된 상황정보(Social Context)를 의사결정에 동적으로 반영하고 동시에 의사결정 해의 사용시점에서의 가용성에 따라 유용 가능한 대안을 추출하는 방법론을 제안하고자 한다. 이를 위해, 정적, 외재적 및 사회적 상황정보를 이용하여 의사결정 추론한다. 추론은 의사결정자의 과거 경험에 기반한 사례기반 추론과 해당 의사결정 결과가 가용하지 않을 경우 수정을 위한 제약식 만족추론으로 이루어진다. 이를 위해 개인적 경험 등의 정보에 기반한 '문제상황 온톨로지'(Problem Context Ontology)와 집단의 경험적 지식에 기반한 '솔루션 온톨로지'(Solution Ontology)를 구축하였다. 의사결정단계는 상황정보 인식 및 문제상황 온톨로지에 매핑하는 단계, 경험적 사례로부터 문제상황에 가장 적합한 사례를 선택하는 단계, 생성된 솔루션이 가용하지 않을 경우 솔루션 온톨로지와 제약식 만족추론을 통해 새로운 대안을 생성하는 단계로 이루어진다. 본 방법론을 모임에 적합한 식당을 제안하는 예제를 적용함으로써 타당성을 검증하였다. 또한 실험을 통해 사회적 상황정보를 고려하여 생성된 의사결정대안이 그렇지 않은 경우보다 의사결정자의 만족도를 향상시켰으며, 생성된 의사결정대안이 가용하지 않은 경우 제약조건식과 솔루션 온톨로지를 이용해 생성한 대안이 유의미함을 검증하였다.

  • 클라우드 시스템 개념이 출현한지 10여년이 지났고, 비용의 효율성 및 보안성이 검증 되었음에도 불구하고, 금융 회사에서는 클라우드 시스템 도입을 주저하고 있다. 고객정보 유출과 관련한 금융당국의 강력한 규제가 주된 이유겠지만, 금융기관들의 클라우드 시스템 도입에 대한 방향성과 기준이 부재한 것도 중요한 이유라고 생각한다. 본 연구에서는 금융회사의 클라우드 시스템 도입에 대한 법적 제도적 제약사항을 살펴보고, 금융기관들이 IT시스템을 구축할 때 클라우드 시스템 적용 가능 여부와 클라우드 시스템 구성 형태를 결정하는 의사결정 모델을 제시하고자 한다. 본 연구가 많은 금융기관들의 클라우드 시스템 도입 방향성을 수립하는데 많은 도움이 되기를 희망한다.

A Study on the Introduction of Fuzzy system into the Decision-Making process of HVAC designers

  • This study is designed to grope for logical methods in the decision-making process of human beings such as creation and analysis. With this in mind, the paper worked with a process where the designers of a design team gather and analyze their opinions in a design process to decide on the HVAC system of buildings. The paper introduced the fuzzy theory, or one of the methods to quantitatively describe language values with ambiguous features, suggesting a method to determine the judgement and suggestion values of the HVAC designers with the characteristics of language variables as the values of design factors greatly influencing the HVAC system. As a result, the paper tested the possibility of the fuzzy system as a logical method to gather the judgement of HVAC designers in a stage of HVAC type selection exerting a great influence on the experience and judgement of the designers and having powerful linguistic features and to determine an appropriate HVAC type which can satisfy the suggested values of related design factors.

SUPPLIER SELECTION UNDER UNCERTAINTY: A FUZZY-SET APPOACH

  • Traditionally, the evaluation and selection of suppliers have been a major purchasing function. A growing concern for just in-time purchasing, global sourcing, and long-term partnership between buyers and suppliers makes selecting a righ supplier become more critical decision making process. Consequently, a rigorous and systematic method for evaluation suppliers is a must. However, assessing the values of factors(e.g. qulaity , delivery, and service) selected for evaluating suppliers contains elements of uncertainty. Although several methods have been developed for uncertainty analysis, they may not be proper tools for evaluating suppliers under uncertainty. In this paper, a methodology using a fuzzy-set approach in combination with a multicriterion decision-making (MCDM) technique is developed to use as a tool for evaluating suppliers under uncertainty. An numerical example is presented to demonstrate the method in practice.

  • In this paper, we used a laser range finder (LRF) to detect both the static and dynamic obstacles for the safe navigation of a mobile robot. LRF sensor measurements containing the information of obstacle's geometry are first processed to extract the characteristic points of the obstacle in the sensor field of view. Then the dynamic states of the characteristic points are approximated using kinematic model, which are tracked by associating the measurements with Probability Data Association Filter. Finally, the collision avoidance algorithm is developed by using fuzzy decision making algorithm depending on the states of the obstacles tracked by the proposed obstacle tracking algorithm. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated through experiments with the experimental mobile robot.

  • This paper studies a method for making more efficient classification rules in the ID3 using the rough set theory. Decision tree technique of the ID3 always uses all the attributes in a table of examples for making a new decision tree, but rough set technique can in advance eleminate dispensable attributes. And the former generates only one type of classification rules, but the latter generates all the possibles types of them. The rules generated by the rough set technique are the simplist from as proved by the rough set theory. Therefore, ID3, applying the rough set technique, can reduct the size of the table of examples, generate the simplist form of the classification rules, and also implement an effectie classification system.
