  • In this paper, we consider the decentralized reduced-order H$_{\infty}$ controller for the general plant. Simplifying method is suggested for the general plant with the decentralized controller structure. When the controller is reconstructed for the original system, the decentralizability of the controller for the transformed system is generally destroyed with the older method. We solve this problem. For the simplified system, the structure of the decentralized controller is suggested..

  • This paper proposes the design of the decentralized adaptive controllers which are an arbitrary interconnection of sub-systems with unknown parameters, nonlinear ities and bounded disturbances. In order to exponentially converge the state and parameter errors, robust decentralized adaptive controllers are developed for stabilization and tracking the parameters. In the simulation studies of the decentralized adaptive control of a two-area interconnected power system, the effectiveness of the proposed adaptive schemes is demonstrated.

  • A decentralized robust EA(eigensoucture assignment) controller is designed for an active suspension system of a vehicle based on a full car model with 7-degree of freedom. Using overlapping decomposition, the full car model is decentralized by two half car models. For each half car model, a robust eigenstructure assignment controller can be obtained by using optimization approach. The performance of the decentralized robust EA controller is compared with that of a conventional centralized EA controller through computer simulations.

  • In this study, seismic response control performance of decentralized response-dependent MR damper which generates the control force using only the response of damper-installed floor, was experimentally investigated through the tests of a full-scale structure installed with large MR dampers. The performance of the decentralized control algorithm was compared to those of the centralized ones such as Lyapunov, modulated homogeneous friction, and clipped-optimal control. Hybrid mass damper were controlled to induce seismic response of the full-scale structure under El Centro earthquake. Experimental results indicated that the proposed decentralized MR damper provided superior or equivalent performance to centralized one in spite of using damper-installed floor response for calculating input voltage to MR damper.

  • Passive velocity field control (PVFC) was previously developed for fully mechanical systems, in which the motion task was specified by behaviors in terms of a velocity field and the closed-loop was passive with respect to the supply rate given by the environment input. However, the PVFC was only applied to a single manipulator. The proposed control law was derived geometrically and the geometric and robustness properties of the closed-loop system were also analyzed. In this paper, we propose a virtual passivity-based algorithm to apply decentralized control to multiple 3wheeled mobile robotic systems whose subsystems are under nonholonomic constraints and convey a common rigid object in a horizontal plain. Moreover, it is shown that multiple robot systems ensure stability and the velocities of augmented systems converge to a scaled multiple of each desired velocity field for cooperative mobile robot systems. Finally, the application of proposed virtual passivity-based decentralized algorithm via system augmentation is applied to trace a circle and the simulation results is presented in order to show effectiveness for the decentralized control algorithm proposed in this research.

  • The analysis and design method for achieving robust stabilization of Decentralized Dynamic Surface Control (DDSC) is presented for a class of interconnected nonlinear systems. While a centralized design approach of DSC was developed in [1], the decentralized approach to deal with large-scale interconnected systems is proposed under the assumption that interconnected functions among subsystems are unknown but bounded. To provide a closed-loop form with provable stability properties, augmented error dynamics for N nonlinear subsystems with DDSC are derived. Then, the reachable set for errors of the closed-loop systems will be approximated numerically in the form of an ellipsoid in the framework of convex optimization. Finally, a numerical algorithm to calculate the $L_2$ gain of the augmented error dynamics is presented.

  • This paper considers a decentralized control problem of dicrete LTI systems which have time delay between interconnections. This paper provides sufficient conditions for the decentralized controller to exist as a H$\infty$ disturbance attenuation ${\gamma}$ of a scaled system and shows that the controller can be designed by using the discrete standard $H_{\infty}$ control theory.

  • This paper presents a decentralized quadratic regulation architecture with feedforward neural networks for the control problem of complex systems. In this method, the decentralized technique was used to treat several simple subsystems instead of a full complex system in order to reduce training time of neural networks, and the neural networks' nonlinear mapping ability is exploited to handle the nonlinear interaction variables between subsystems. The decentralized regulating architecture is composed of local neuro-controllers, local neuro-identifiers and an overall interaction neuro-identifier. With the interaction neuro-identifier that catches interaction characteristics, a local neuro-identifier is trained to simulate a subsystem dynamics. A local neuro-controller is trained to learn how to control the subsystem by using generalized Backprogation Through Time(BTT) algorithm. The proposed neural network based decentralized regulating scheme is applied in the power System Stabilization(PSS) control problem for an imterconnected power system, and compared with that by a conventional centralized LQ regulator for the power system.

  • An LMI based method to construct a decentralized control law for large scale systems is discussed. It is extended to assure the stability not only of the overall system but also of each subsystem without interconnection. Then, it is simplified to have local feedback loops only for some selected subsystems.

  • In this paper, a decentralized adaptive controller is proposed to control robot manipulators which are governed by highly nonlinear dynamic equations. The controller is computationally efficient since it does not require mathematical model or parameter values of robot manipulators. The stability of the manipulators with the controller is proved by Lyapunov theory. The results of computer simulations show that the robot manipulator system is stable, and has excellent trajectory tracking performance.
