  • The essential idea of de-noising is referring to neighboring pixels of a center pixel to be updated. Conventional adaptive de-noising filters use local statistics, i.e., mean and variance, of neighboring pixels including the center pixel. The drawback of adaptive de-noising filters is that their performance becomes low when edges are contained in neighboring pixels, while anisotropic diffusion de-noising filters remove adaptively noises and preserve edges considering intensity difference between neighboring pixel and the center pixel. The anisotropic diffusion de-noising filters, however, use only intensity difference between neighboring pixels and the center pixel, i.e., local statistics of neighboring pixels and the center pixel are not considered. We propose a new connectivity function of two adjacent pixels using statistics of neighboring pixels and apply connectivity function to diffusion coefficient. Experimental results using an aerial image corrupted by uniform and Gaussian noises showed that the proposed algorithm removed more efficiently noises than conventional diffusion filter and median filter.

  • A bird's-eye view on preparation, structure and properties of polymeric complexes in the field of Inorganic-Organic-Hybrids is presented in the view point of solid state and materials chemistry. These materials are useful precursors for preparing nanoparticles and fine grain oxides. Some of them are electroactive and are used as protonic or lithium electrolytes, electrochromic materials or membranes for sensors and actuators. New results on bio-hybrids, a class of material not far from polymeric complexes, are also described.

  • Eleven fungal strains previously isolated from the Mexican desert were evaluated for their capacity to use catechin as carbon source in submerged cultures. At 2 g/l of catechin, all strains grew better than the control strains, Aspergillus niger Aa-20. Aspergillus niger PSH and Penicillium commune EH2 degraded 79.33% and 76.35% with degradation rates of 0.0065 and 0.0074 g/l/h, respectively, when an initial catechin concentration of 3 g/l was used. Obtained results demonstrated the potential biotechnological capacity of these fungal strains to use condensed tannins as carbon source.

  • A moderately halophilic, Gram-positive, spore-forming bacterium was isolated from the roots of Blutaparon portulacoides, a plant found in sandy soil parallel to the beach line in Restinga de Jurubatiba, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The strain, designated $M9^T$, was motile and strictly aerobic with rod-shaped cells. It grew in the absence of NaCl and up to 20% NaCl, and was able to hydrolyze casein and starch. Strain $M9^T$ had a cell-wall peptidoglycan based on L-Orn-D-Asp, the predominant menaquinone present was menaquinone-7 (MK-7), diaminopimelic acid was not found, and anteiso-$C_{15:0}$ and iso-$C_{15:0}$ were the major fatty acids. A phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain $M9^T$ belonged to the genus Halobacillus and exhibited 16S rRNA gene similarity levels of 97.8-99.4% with the type strains of the other nine Halobacillus species. The DNA-DNA relatedness of strain $M9^T$ with H. trueperi, the closest relative as regards 16S rRNA gene similarity, and H. locisalis was 21% and 18%, respectively. Therefore, on the basis of phenotypic, genotypic, and phylogenetic data, strain $M9^T$ (=ATCC BAA-$1217^T$, =CIP $108771^T$, =KCTC $3980^T$) should be placed in the genus Halobacillus as a member of a novel species, for which the name Halobacillus blutaparonensis sp. nov. is proposed.

  • Rapidly developed de novo aneurysm is very rare. We present a rapidly developed and ruptured de novo anterior communicating aneurysm 8 days after the rupture of another aneurysm. This de novo aneurysm was not apparent in the initial 3-dimensional computed tomography and digital subtraction angiography. We reviewed the literature and discussed possible mechanisms for the development of this de novo aneurysm.

  • In this letter, we assess the scalability of a path computation flooding (PCF) approach to compute optimal end-to-end inter-domain paths in a path computation element-based multi-domain network. PCF yields a drastically reduced network blocking probability compared to a blind per-domain path computation but introduces significant network control overhead and path computation complexity. In view of this, we introduce and compare an alternative low overhead PCF (LoPCF) solution. From the obtained results, LoPCF leads to similar blocking probabilities to PCF while exhibiting around 50% path computation complexity and network control overhead reduction.

  • This work presents experimental data and modelling of the release of Mo from high-burnup spent nuclear fuel (63 MWd/kgU) at two different pH values, 8.4 and 13.2 in air. The release of Mo from SF to the solution is around two orders of magnitude higher at pH = 13.2 than at pH = 8.4. The high Mo release at high pH would indicate that Mo would not be congruently released with uranium and would have an important contribution to the Instant Release Fraction, with a value of 5.3%. Parallel experiments with pure non irradiated Mo(s) and XPS determinations indicated that the faster dissolution at pH = 13.2 could be the consequence of the higher releases from metallic Mo in the fuel through a surface complexation mechanism promoted by the OH- and the oxidation of the metal to Mo(VI) via the formation of intermediate Mo(IV) and Mo(V) species.

  • This work aims to show a model to estimate the minimum cost (Thickness and area of steel in X and Y directions) for design a circular isolated footing with eccentric column that considers that the surface in contact with the ground works partially under compression. The formulation is shown by integration to find the moments, the bending shears and the punching shear using the pressure volume under the footing. Some researchers show the minimum cost design for circular isolated footings for an eccentric column assuming that the contact area works completely in compression, others consider the contact surface with the ground working partially in compression for a column in the center of the base. Three numerical examples are developed to obtain the complete design, which are: Example 1 for a column in the center of the base,Example 2 for a column at a distance of 1.50 m from the center of the base in the X direction, Example 3 for a column at a distance of 1.50 m from the center of the base in both directions. Also, a comparison of the new model against the model proposed by other authors is presented. The comparison shows that the new model generates a great saving of up to 43.74% for minimum area and 48.44% for minimum cost design in a column located in the center of the base, and when the column is located at a distance of radius/2 starting from the center of the base in the X direction generates great savings of up to 45.24% for minimum area and 31.80% for minimum cost design. Therefore, it is advisable to use the model presented in this study.

  • Generally, Capacitor charging power supply (CCPS) consist of the full-bridge inverter, LC resonant tank and capacitance load. The multi-connection systems are normally used for high voltage or high power application. In this paper, conventional parallel operation resonant type and proposed series operation PWM type CCPS for pulse corona occurrence of DeSOx, DeNOx system using magnetic pulse compressor make a comparison. The effect of proposed CCPS is verified by circuit characteristics analysis of parallel operation resonant type and series operation PWM type, and it is confirmed by simulation result.
