Minard's figurative map is an infographic on Napoleon's Russian Campaign of 1812. Tufte (The Visual Display of Quantitative Information, Graphics Press, 1983) declared that Napoleon's March "may well be the best statistical graphic ever produced." We can use this data map as storytelling material for data visualization education. In this paper, with Minard's figurative map, we study four themes (infographics, information design, Minard, and the Russian Campaign) in data visualization education.

The family tree is one of the key elements of humanities classics research and is very important for accurately understanding people or families. In this paper, we introduce a method for automatically generating a family tree using information on interpersonal relationships (IIPR) from the Korean Classics Database (KCDB) and visualize interpersonal searches within a family tree using data-driven document JavaScript (d3.js). To date, researchers of humanities classics have wasted considerable time manually drawing family trees to understand people's influence relationships. An automatic family tree builder analyzes a database that visually expresses the desired family tree. Because a family tree contains a large amount of data, we analyze the performance and bottlenecks according to the amount of data for visualization and propose an optimal way to construct a family tree. To this end, we create an n-ary tree with fake data, visualize it, and analyze its performance using simulation results.
The purpose of this research is creating the visualization platform of the user interface to make able to be provide the demanded service while users communication with surrounding space in a smart city environment. This comes from the latest enhanced interface technology and social media, and it uses the shares information to support the proper interface environment according to a life style and spatial properties. "EzCity" which is the user interface platform suggested in this research, can control the enormous amount of public data for the smart city. The core module of user platform is made up with Public data module, Interface module, Visualization module and Service module. The role of this platform is to be provide "Geo-Intelligent Interface Service" for space users to access the data in easier and more practical interface environment. This reinforces the visualization process for data collecting, systematization, visualization and providing service. Also this will be expected to be the base to solve the problem which complexity and rapidly increasing amount of data.
Post-processing programs play an important role in the CFD data visualization and analysis. A variety of post-processing softwares have been developed and are being used in the CFD community. Developing a good quality of post-processing program requires dedication and efforts. In this paper an experience obtained through previous studies and developing post-processing programs are introduced which includes data structure and visualization algorithms.

Currently the amount and variety of data being generated is unprecedented and dramatically changes the way individuals, groups, and societies act and make decisions. Visualization is one of the most important commonly used methods of analyzing and interpreting digital assets and the interactive environments are necessary to enable effective discovery and decision making. In this paper we present several examples and approaches to scalable functional representations and interactive visualization and analysis. The functional representations provide us unified, compact, continuous, multi-scale, and compressed representations in the data domain.
Data generated from sensors are exploding with recent development of IoT. This paradigm shift requires various industry fields that demand instant actions to analyze the arising data on a real-time basis, along with the real-time visualization analysis. As the existing visualization systems, however, perform visualization after storing data, the response time of the server cannot guarantee the ms-level processing that is close to real-time. They also have a problem of destroying data that can be major resources as they do not possess the process resources. Therefore, a smart gardening system that applies a real-time visualization algorithm using IoT sensing data under a gardening environment was designed and implement in this study. The response time of the server was measured to evaluate the performance of the suggested system. As a result, the response speed of the suggested real-time visualization algorithm was guaranteeing the ms-level processing close to real-time.

This paper describes a new algorithm to compute and track the deformation of an isosurface component defined in a time-varying volumetric data. Isosurface visualization is one of the most common method for effective visualization of volumetric data. However, most isosurface visualization algorithms have been developed for static volumetric data. As imaging and simulation techniques are developed, large time-varying volumetric data are increasingly generated. Hence, development of time-varying isosurface visualization that utilizes dynamic properties of time-varying data becomes necessary. First, we define temporal correspondence between isosurface components of two consecutive timesteps. Based on the definition, we perform an algorithm that tracks the deformation of an isosurface component that can be selected using the Contour Tree. By repeating this process for entire timesteps, we can effectively visualize the time-varying data by displaying the dynamic deformation of the selected isosurface component.
Business intelligence based on the data analysis come into the spotlight. Especially, information visualization of the analysis result is treated significantly. given the interest in big data technologies. Because corporate managers want to use the results of data analysis in the decision-making process and the visualization technology will give help with cognitive function and operation function. In this paper, the status of information visualization is reviewed and analyzed from the viewpoint of manufacturing service. Several implications are drawn and it is expected that they will help to developers and administrators of manufacturing sector who want to adopt information visualization applications.
The multimedia visualizational spreadsheet environment is shown to be extremely effective in supporting the organized visualization of multi-dimensional data sets. In this paper, we designed the visualization model that consists of the configurational 2D arrangement of spreadsheet elements at run time and each spreadsheet element has a novel framestack. As the feature, it supports 3D data structure of each element on the proposed model. It enables the visualization spreadsheet 1) to effectively manage, organize, and compactly encapsulate multi-dimensional data sets, 2) to reconfigure cell-structures dynamically according to client request, and 3) to rapidly process interactive user interface. Using several experiments with scientific users, the model has been demonstrated to be a highly interactive visual browsing tool for 2D and 3D graphics and rendering in each frame.

Currently, land-based fish farms utilizing seawater have introduced and are utilizing various equipment such as real-time water quality monitoring systems, facility automation systems, and automated dissolved oxygen supply devices. Furthermore, data collected from various equipment in these fish farms produce structured and unstructured big data related to water quality environment, facility operations, and workplace visual information. The big data generated in the operational environment of fish farms aims to improve operational and production efficiency through the development and application of various methods. This study aims to develop a system for effectively analyzing and visualizing big data produced from land-based fish farms. It proposes a data visualization process suitable for use in a fish farm big data analysis system, develops big data visualization tools, and compares the results. Additionally, it presents intuitive visualization models for exploring and comparing big data with time-series characteristics.
