  • EEG-based brain computer interface (BCI) provides a new communication channel between human brain and computer. The classification of EEG data is an important task in EEG-based BCI. In this paper we present methods which jointly employ principal component analysis (PCA) and linear dynamical system (LDS) modeling for the task of EEG classification. Experimental study for the classification of EEG data during imagination of a left or right hand movement confirms the validity of our proposed methods.

  • This paper presents a geostatistical contextual classifier for the classification of remote sensing data. To obtain accurate spatial/contextual information, a simple indicator kriging algorithm with local means that allows one to estimate the probability of occurrence of certain classes on the basis of surrounding pixel information is applied. To illustrate the proposed scheme, supervised classification of multi-sensor remote sensing data is carried out. Analysis of the results indicates that the proposed method improved the classification accuracy, compared to the method based on the spectral information only.

  • In this paper, we construct and compare various guitar chord classification systems using perceptron neural network and convolutional neural network without pre-processing other than Fourier transform to identify the optimal chord classification system. Conventional guitar chord classification schemes use, for better feature extraction, computationally demanding pre-processing techniques such as stochastic analysis employing a hidden markov model or an acoustic data filtering and hence are burdensome for real-time chord classifications. For this reason, we construct various perceptron neural networks and convolutional neural networks that use only Fourier tranform for data pre-processing and compare them with dataset obtained by playing an electric guitar. According to our comparison, convolutional neural networks provide optimal performance considering both chord classification acurracy and fast processing time. In particular, convolutional neural networks exhibit robust performance even when only small fraction of low frequency components of the data are used.

  • As we know, the quality of processes is technically depicted by variation, a product or process with the best quality must naturally require the variation as less as possible. The variation is usually reduced with many ways, say, by adjusting parameters settings under robust design with many turns expensive experiments. So ones are trying to reach the robustness by detecting cheap and simple methods. In this paper, a both practical and simple technique for quality improvement, namely reducing the variation, by data classification is studied. First, all possible system factors are included, which may dominate the variation law. And then we make use of the past observations and their classification as well as boxplot charts to find out the internal rule between the variation and the system factor. Next, adjust the location of the system factor according to the rule so that the variation could, to some extent, be lessened. Finally, two typical quality improvement cases based on data classification are presented.

  • Traffic classification seeks to assign packet flows to an appropriate quality of service (QoS) class based on flow statistics without the need to examine packet payloads. Classification proceeds in two steps. Classification rules are first built by analyzing traffic traces, and then the classification rules are evaluated using test data. In this paper, we use self-organizing map and K-means clustering as unsupervised machine learning methods to identify the inherent classes in traffic traces. Three clusters were discovered, corresponding to transactional, bulk data transfer, and interactive applications. The K-nearest neighbor classifier was found to be highly accurate for the traffic data and significantly better compared to a minimum mean distance classifier.

  • In this paper, we propose a gait type classification method based on pressure sensor which reflects various terrain and velocity variations. In order to obtain stable gait classification performance, we divide the whole gait data into several steps by detecting the swing phase, and normalize each step. Then, we extract robust features for both topographic variation and speed variation by using the Null-LDA(Null-Space Linear Discriminant Analysis) method. The experimental results show that the proposed method gives a good performance of gait type classification even though there is a change in the gait velocity and the terrain.

  • In this paper, we compared recognition rates between NN(neural networks) and clustering method as a scheme of off-line PD(partial discharge) diagnosis which occurs at the stator coil of traction motor. To acquire PD data, three defective models are made. PD data for classification were acquired from PD detector. And then statistical distributions are calculated to classify model discharge sources. These statistical distributions were applied as input data of two classification tools, BP(Back propagation algorithm) and ANFIS(adaptive network based fuzzy inference system) pre-processed FCM(fuzzy c-means) clustering method. So, classification rate of BP were somewhat higher than ANFIS. But other items of ANFIS were better than BP; learning time, parameter number, simplicity of algorithm.

  • Data classification and clustering is one of the most common applications of the machine learning. In this paper, we aim to provide the insight of the classification for Turing pattern image, which has high nonlinearity, with feature engineering using the machine learning without a multi-layered algorithm. For a given image data X whose fixel values are defined in [-1, 1], X - X3 and ∇X would be more meaningful feature than X to represent the interface and bulk region for a complex pattern image data. Therefore, we use X - X3 and ∇X in the neural network and clustering algorithm to classification. The results validate the feasibility of the proposed approach.

  • The process of inspecting SMDs on the PCB boards improves the product quality, performance and reduces frequent issues in this field. However, undesirable scenarios such as assembly failure and device breakdown can occur sometime during the assembly process and result in costly losses and time-consuming. The detection of these components with a model based on deep learning may be effective to reduce some errors during the inspection in the manufacturing process. In this paper, YOLO models were used due to their high speed and good accuracy in classification and target detection. A SMD detection and classification method using YOLO networks based on robust data preprocessing and augmentation techniques to deal with various types of variation such as illumination and geometric changes is proposed. For 9 different components of data provided from a PCB manufacturer company, the experiment results show that YOLOv4 is better with fast detection and classification than YOLOv3.
