Objectives : The purpose of this study was designed to estimate the effect of Damjeonggyeok acupuncture on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder patient due to a series of traffic accidents by using Symptoms Check List-90-Rivision(SCL-90-R). Methods : This report have been observed among 30 patients who admitted our department for whiplash injury associated disorders during 04-01-2009 to 09-31-2009. The PTSD patients was divided into 2 groups. One group was treated general oriental medical treatment(Group A) and the other group was treated Damjeonggyeok acupuncture with general oriental medical treatment(Group B). SCL-90-R and visual analogue scale(VAS) were checked before and after treatment for evaluating the improvement of whiplash injury associated disorders with PTSD. Results : 1. Both Group A and Group B showed good effect on decreasing of VAS and improving of psychological symptoms after traffic accident. 2. Group B symptoms about SCL-90-R Conclusions : Damjeonggyeok acupuncture with general oriental medical treatment can be recommended as a useful therapy to treat patients who have PTSD. Further study is needed to confirm the effectiveness of Damjeonggyeok acupuncture on whiplash injury associated disorders with PTSD.

Objectives : The aim of the present study was to assess the effects of Sa-am acupuncture (Damjeonggyeok) on autonomic nervous system in night nurses by heart rate variability. Methods : Five night nurses were divided into two groups. We checked their HRV once after sleeping for night and 5 times after working for night, 4 times after operation. We operate Sa-am acupuncture (Damjeonggyeok) and sham acupuncture twice by turns for group A and in reverse order for group B. We checked responses of HRV change after operations. Statistical analysis was performed by using the SPSS Win. Ver. 13.0 for analysis about correlation between data, and Baysian analysis using WinBUGS(Ver. 1.4) for comparison between Sa-am acupuncture (Damjeonggyeok) and sham acupuncture. Results : The median overall decrease for difference in responses of low-frequency power in normalized units (LF (NU)) was -16.56 (-28.88, -6.446), the median overall increase for difference in responses to high-frequency power in normalized units (HF (NU)) was 16.25 (8.104, 28.6) and for the median overall decrease for difference in responses to the ratio of low- to high-frequency power (LF/HF) was -1.846 (-3.922, -0.069), 95% credibility intervals being shown in brackets. VAS of stress was correlated with LF (NU) and HF (NU), LF/HF (p<0.0l). Conclusion : Sa-am acupuncture (Damjeonggyeok) might have sympatholytic and parasympathomimetic effects.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report that acupuncture of Damjeonggyeok(tonifying GB in Sa-Am acupucture) can be effective on chronic insomnia. Methods : The patients were treated with Sa-Am acupucture(Damjeonggyeok) added with HT8 and KI6, once a week. Treatments were performed for 20 minutes. The effectiveness was evaluated using total sleep hours and subjective sleep quality based on the Insomnia Severity Index. Result and Conclusions : In all patients, the sleep quality evaluated with the Insomnia Severity Index has shown amelioration and sleeping time was increased. Also, they quit the insomnia pills. Acupuncture at Damjeonggyeok added with HT8 and KI6 seems to be able to one of useful therapies for the sleep disorder in chronic insomnia.

Oral leukoplakia is the most common premalignant lesion of the oral mucosa. This case report presents the effect of acupuncture on Oral leukoplakia. The 67 years old male patient who has suffered for 2 years was treated with Right side Saam acupucture Damjeonggyeok(BL66, GB43, LI1, GB44) without other treatment. Acupuncture was performed for 15 minutes. The effect of acupuncture was evaluated as photographic change and visual analog scale(VAS) of subjective symptoms in oral cavity. After 87th acupunture treatment during 226 days, Leukoplakias were decreased at the right side of ventral tongue and the left border of the tongue and the lower lip. Furthermore, ulcer, erosion at the left border of the tongue were disappeared and VAS of Burning pain in the tongue decreased from 8 to 2. Although acupuncture is unusual treatment for Oral Leukoplakia, this case report suggested the effectiveness of using Damjeonggyeok on Oral Leukoplakia according to Saam acupuncture method.
