  • Type3 cylinder is a composite pressure vessel fully over-wrapped with carbon/epoxy composite layers over an aluminum liner, which is the most ideal and safe high pressure gas container for CNG vehicles due to the lightweight and the leakage-before-burst characteristics. During service in CNG vehicle, if a fiber cut damage occurs in outer composite layers, it can degrade structural performance, reducing cycling life from the original design life. In this study, finite element modeling and analysis technique for the composite cylinder with fiber-cut crack damage is presented. Because FE analysis of type3 cylinder is path dependant due to plastic deformation of aluminum liner in autofrettage process, method to introduce a crack into FE model affect analysis result. A crack should be introduced after autofrettage in analysis step considering real circumstances where crack occurs during usage in service. For realistic simulation of this situation, FE modeling and analysis technique introducing a crack in the middle of analysis step is presented and the results are compared with usual FE analysis which has initial crack in the model from the beginning of analysis. Proposed analysis technique can be used effectively in the evaluation of influence of damage on composite layers of type3 cylinder and establish inspection criteria of composite cylinder in service.

  • As the power industry moves towards open competition, there has been a call for methodology to evaluate power system reliability by using customer interruption costs. This paper presents an evaluation of interruption costs by industrial customer type in Korea using customer survey methodology. When various research results are examined, the customer damage survey methodology becomes much more generalized. Especially, in the case of industrial customers, it is known that the evaluation by customer damage survey is more useful. Accordingly, this paper selected the customer damage survey method to evaluate interruption costs by industrial customer type in Korea considering interruption and customer characteristics.

  • Installation damage of 3 types of geogrids was evaluated with compaction condition by laboratory tester. This experimental was in accordance with ENV ISO 10722-1. First, soil distribution and water content were conducted. And then we changed cyclic loading time and type of geogrids as a factor of installation damage. The samples are woven, warp-knitted, welded type of 6, 8, 10T. This study aims to give an insight into the relationships between installation damage and cyclic loading time. The result of studies was that strength of the damaged geogrids can be closely correlated with the time of loading cycles. Especially, welded type shows slower slope than two types of geogrids due to coating materials. That means welded type is coated with PP (Polypropylene), but the other two types of geogrids are coated with PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride). To confirm another factor different method was performed. The size of soil was used between 9.5 mm and 23.5 m to compare initial experimental. Cyclic loading compaction is taken 200 times before installation test and the reason is that the reduction factor of this case by installation damage was higher than other compaction loading conditions.

  • This paper described analysis of acoustic emission parameter for the damage evaluation of type II vehicle fuel tank during fracture test. The observation of Kaiser effect, Felicity effect and creep effect is the means of damage evaluation method. It is possible to evaluate tank damage by the ratio of hit of over 60 dB and total hit. Damage mechanism of pressure tank can be estimated by analysis of average rise time, average amplitude.

  • In this paper, the damage of hair and wave shape in process of the dyeing, bleaching, and permanent hair wave are simulated. The virgin hair that do not process the dyeing, bleaching, and permanent hair wave becomes stable in the scale type. On the other hand, the hair that deals with the dyeing, bleaching, and permanent hair wave is heavily damaged in the scale type. It is observed that the higher pH is decided, the higher the hair is damaged because the scale damage in the bleaching hair is more heavily damaged than the dyeing hair. In case of executing the permanent hair wave, the processing of the plaine rinsing becomes less in the scale damage of the hair and better in the wave form. Therefore, it is found that the processing of the plaine rinsing to improve the wave form and to prevent the hair damage is needed.

  • This paper proposes damage indices efficient on evaluating the seismic safety of cable-stayed bridges, especially dual-plane, cable-stayed bridges with H-type pylons. The research assumes that the location of accelerometers is already defined as given in the 2017 Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) guideline. In other words, the paper does not attempt to suggest optimal sensor location for the seismic safety evaluation of cable-stayed bridges. The proposed damage indices are based on those for building structures widely applied in the field already. Those include changes in natural frequencies and changes in relative lateral displacements. In addition, the study proposes other efficient damage indices as the rotation changes at the top of pylons and in the midspan of the girder system. Sensitivity analysis for various damage indices is performed through dynamic analysis using selected earthquake ground motions. The paper compares the effectiveness of the damage indices.

  • In order to evaluate the limit earthquake resistance of multi-story steel frames influenced by the strength and stiffness ratios of members a series inelastic response analysis were carried out. From the analysis results the damage distribution rules of multi-story steel frames were proposed. Conclusions are summarized as follows. 1)As the stiffness ratio of beam and column becomes small damage concentrate on the lower end of columns of the first story. 2) Considering the strength and stiffness ratios of beam and column with weak beam type mechanism the equations predicting the damage distribution of multi-story steel frames were proposed.

  • Polyvinylidene di-fluoride (PVDF) film sensor appeared to be practically useful for the structural health monitoring of composite materials and structures. PVDF film sensors were either attached to or embedded in the graphite/epoxy composite (CFRP) samples to detect the fatigue damage at the bondline of single-lap joints or the tensile failure of unidirectional laminates. PVDF sensors were sensitive enough to detect and determine the crack front in linear location since composites usually produce very energetic acoustic emission (AE). PVDF sensors are extremely cost-effective, as flexible as other plastic films, in low profile as thin as a few tens of microns, and have relatively wide-band response, all of which characteristics are readily utilized for the structural health monitoring of composite structures. Signals due to fatigue damage showed a characteristics of mode II (shear) type failure whereas those from fiber breakage at DEN notches showed that of mode I (tensile) type fracture.

  • Stress and deformation on forklift happened at loading, unloading or moving freight are studied by structural and fatigue analysis in this study. As model 1 as closing type between forks has lower stress and stain than model 2 at opening type, model 1 has more durability than model 2. Among the cases of nonuniform fatigue loads, 'SAE bracket history' with the severest change of load becomes most unstable but 'Sample history' becomes most stable. In case of 'SAE bracket history' with the severest change of load at model 1 and 2, maximum life is shown with Cycle. Minimum damage with 854 at model 2 becomes much higher than model 1. As the gap between forks becomes open, the damage probability becomes higher. The structural result of this study can be effectively utilized with the safe and stable design of forklift by investigating prevention and durability against its damage.
