Platycarya strobilacea S. et Z. Extract Has a High Antioxidant Capacity and Exhibits Hair Growth-promoting Effects in Male C57BL/6 Mice

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of Platycarya strobilacea S. et Z. (PSE) extract on mouse hair growth and to determine the mechanism of action of PSE. PSE was purchased and its antioxidant activities, such as electron donating ability, total polyphenol content, and flavonoid content were tested. Toxicity during topical treatment was determined by the CCK-8 assay, a cell viability test. Fifteen 4-week-old male C57BL/6 mice were assigned to receive one of three treatments: dimethyl sulfoxide (negative control), minoxidil (positive control) or PSE. Test materials were topically applied to the shaved dorsal skin of each mouse daily for 3 weeks. After 21 days, we observed skin tissue hair follicle morphology and length, mast cell number, and stem cell factor (SCF) expression using hematoxylin and eosin (H&E), toluidine blue, and immunohistochemical staining, respectively. Furthermore, the expression of cytokines involved in hair growth [i.e., insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1, keratinocyte growth factor (KGF), and transforming growth factor (TGF)-${\beta}1$] was determined by PCR. PSE was found to have very high antioxidant activity. The cell viability rate of PSE-treated mice was markedly higher than that of mice in the control group. We also observed an increase in hair follicle length, strong SCF staining, and a decrease in mast cell number in the PSE group. In addition, PSE-treated mice had higher IGF-1 and KGF expression and lower TGF-${\beta}1$ expression than mice in the minoxidil-treated group. These results suggest that topical application of PSE promotes hair growth by intensifying SCF, suppressing mast cell production, and increasing hair growth-promoting cytokine expression.

전통시장의 고객관계관리 전략(CRM)에 대한 효율성 분석 (Analysis of the Efficiency of the Traditional Market's CRM Activities)

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of customer relationship management (CRM) support policies for facilitating traditional markets, especially with respect to customer acquisition and maintenance, and to investigate the factors affecting CRM. Research design, data, and methodology - We analyzed the CRM efficiency of traditional markets in 16 cities and provinces in Korea on the basis of DEA analysis and Malmquist productivity analysis. The DEA model calculates a ratio of the weighted mean of various inputs to the weighted mean of various outputs and measures the efficiency of a specific decision making unit (DMU), which is compared to the reference group that has a similar input-output structure. The input variables are coupon, event, parcel service, premiums, while is the number of customers per day. Further, through regression analysis, we analyzed CRM-related factors affecting traditional markets' customer appeal and revenue growth. Results - We obtained the results of the efficiency of traditional markets in 16 provinces. The traditional markets in Seoul, Busan, and Jeju were found to be efficient in a model CCR that used the number of customers per day as an output variable, while Chungbuk, Jeonbuk Province, and According to the results of the DEA analysis and Malmquist productivity analysis, large cities such as Seoul, Busan, and Jeju showed efficiency in CRM-related investment businesses in traditional markets for attracting customers. The Malmquist analysis results confirmed that the productivity of traditional markets increased from 2008 to 2010. The results of the regression analysis revealed that the "customer acquisition/maintenance factor" and the "offering of customer convenience facility factor" were significant to the daily average number of customers, which is a dependent variable. The results of the test with the mediating variable, "number of customers," and the final dependent variable, "sales revenue," were rejected. However, the variable "customer acquisition /maintenance" was found to affect sales revenue positively. Conclusions - It is necessary to enhance the business not only for promotional activities to attract customers, but also to strengthen customer relationships among CRM businesses, such as through the management of key customers. The regression analysis results showed that CRM businesses have yet to produce an increase in sales revenues in traditional markets. Therefore, to help customers who visit traditional markets to keep buying products, it is necessary to prepare various investment methods and provide support to improve "customer loyalty." This study has a limitation in terms of CRM-related statistics. Therefore, in the future, it is necessary to conduct a survey of customers who use traditional markets to analyze the markets by type and size as well as the CRM-related factors. Based on the analysis, we will try to perform a variety of statistical analyses, including structural equations.

LAI를 고려한 잠재증발산량 추정 (Estimation of Potential Evapotranspiration using LAI)

  • 수문순환 과정에서 증발산 현상은 수자원 개발을 위한 계획의 수립과 수자원시스템의 운영면에서 대단히 중요한 요소로서 작용한다. 본 연구는 Landsat TM(ETM+) 자료와 DEM, Landcover 등의 공간정보를 이용하여 지표면의 에너지수지 요소를 고려한 유역의 일일 잠재증발산량을 분포형으로 산정하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 연구대상유역은 한강수계 경안천 유역으로 하였으며, 잠재증발산량 산정은 식생이 전혀 없는 수역과 비수역 부분으로 구분하여 식생이 존재하는 지역에는 엽면적지수(LAI)를 고려한 Penman-Monteith식을 이용하였다. 그리고 비식생영역인 수역은 Penman의 에너지수지 질량수송 조합방법에 의해 산정하였다. 잠재증발산량 산정에 필요한 입력자료 중 NDVI와 SR 그리고 알베도는 1986년부터 2002년까지의 Landsat TM 및 ETM+ 영상자료로부터 분포형으로 생성하였다. NDVI 분포도를 이용하여 지중열전도량 분포도를 생성하였고, SR 분포도를 이용하여 엽면적지수 분포도를 작성하였다. 산정결과 유역전체 평균 잠재증발산량은 단위 셀당 1.8~3.2mm/day정도로 산정되었다. 각 토지피복별 잠재증발산량을 산정한 결과 수표면에서의 잠재증발산량은 3.6~4.9mm/day, 도시지역은 1.4~3.1mm/day, 나대지는 1.4~3.5mm/day, 초지는 1.7~3.7mm/day, 산림지역은 1.7~3.0mm/day 그리고 농경지에서는 1.8~3.6mm/day로 산정되었다. 증발접시 관측자료와 비교한 결과 잠재증발산량이 과소하게 산정되었으나 물리적인 타당성은 있는 것으로 판단된다.

서울지역 여대생의 BMI에 따른 영량 영양소와 산소섭취 실태 (Dietary Macronutrients and $VO_{2}$ by BMI among Female College Students in Seoul)

  • This study was conducted to investigate dietary macronutrient and $VO_{2}$ by BMI The subjects consisted of 50 female college students. They were divided into three groups: Below BMI 18.5 kg/$m^{2}$ (n = 9), BMI 18.5 - 23 kg/$m^{2}$ (n = 28), above BMI 23 g/$m^{2}$ (n = 13). Health-related questionnaires, dietary macronutrients, macronutrient compositions, food frequency questionnaires, body compositions and $VO_{2}$ were studied. Macronutrient compositions that macronutrient intakes were expressed by the percentage of daily energy intakes. There were significant differences in body fat, percent of body fat, and fat distribution by BMI Also, significantly increasing of basal metabolic rate (BMR) was shown by BMI, but BMR per body weight was decreased by BMI Overall, there were no significant differences in health-related questionnaires, food frequency questionnaires (FFQ), dietary macronutrients and $VO_{2}$ by BMI but salty taste preferences and carbohydrate intakes, FFQ of beans, white vegetables rand, yellow-green vegetables in the above BMI 23 g/$m^{2}$ group were significantly higher than other groups. There were no significant differences in macronutrient composition but the lipid composition of subjects was shown above $20\%$. Also, energy intakes of subjects were shown to be low; especially the below BMI 18.5 kg/$m^{2}$ group was very low ($55\%$ of RDA). Significantly positive correlation was found in BMR and body composition such as skeletal muscle & lean body mass, but significant correlation was not found in BMR and dietary macronutrients. Overall, researched energy metabolism factor was not different by BMI Only in the BMI 18.5 23 kg/$m^{2}$ (normal) group, significantly positive correlation was found in $VO_{2}$peak and body fat oxidation. Therefore, proper nutritional education for female college students is needed in order to improve their obesity-related health. Moreover, a nutritional survey method of finding diverse factors that affect their health should be developed to meet various needs.

도시 가족계획요원의 직무수행에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구 -서울특별시 동단위 가족계획카드관리요원을 중심으로- (A Study on the Factors which Influenced the Performance of Urban Family Planning Health Personnels' Function - Around the FP health personnels in the Seoul metropolitan city-)

  • This study was done in order to analyze the factors which influenced the performance level of urban family planning health personnels' task. Interview survey was done during the period May, 1989. Interviewee were 130 family planning health personnels among total of 140 family planning health personnels in Seoul metropolitan city area. The internal consistency reliability was tested by Cronbach’s Alpha and the construct validity of the survey tool was tested by Factor analysis. Multiple stepwise regression analysis was used to identify major factors influenced to perform family planning health personnels' task. The results of this study were summarized as follows: 1. The internal consistency reliability was high and very significant (Cronbach's Alphs=0.8445, p<0.0000). 2. The construct validity was high and very significant. This analysis was contained 5 factors; registering and keeping of eligible woman records, health educating for FP & MCH, referral for vasectomy and tubal ligation and loop, supplying contraceptive appliances, sending moved-out eligible woman records. 3. Among a total of 15 contents of their functions recording of daily report and monthly report (76.2%), classifying and keeping of records(66.2%), registering of eligible woman records(60.85ti), distribution of leaflets and pamplets(54.6%), counselling & supervision about family planning(53.8%) were actively performed. Sending moved-out eligible woman records(60.8%), health education for community people(49.2%), referring contraceptors' side-effects were poorly performed. 4. The factors which influenced the performance level of urban family planning health personnels' function were age, marital status, educational level, certification, number of residents, number of eligible women, job car-eer, work responsibility, job satisfaction knowledge, position, cooperation of community people, cooperation of Dong Office, cooperation of Health Center. These 14 variables were able to explain job function from 21.4% of follow-up care of contraceptor to 9.1% of classifying & keeping of eligible woman records.

도시하천(갑천) 유역에서 수질오염의 공간적 특성 (Spatial Characterization of Water Pollution in the Urban Stream Watershed (Gap Stream), Korea)

  • Spatial distribution of water pollution in the Gap Stream was investigated from October to November, 2005. Sampling was conducted three times including effluents discharged from a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and a dam reservoir during the low-flow period. As a typical urban stream, total nitrogen and inorganic nitrogen concentrations increased toward downstream. Ammonia concentration was the highest in the treated water of the wastewater treatment plant and the lowest nitrate concentration was found in the effluent of the dam reservoir. A part of soluble reactive phosphorous (SRP) in total phosphorous was 22~54% in the upstream reach of WWTP in the Gap Stream whereas 68~73% in the downstream reach. Mean chlorophyll-a concentration ranged from 1.6 to $11.0{\mu}g/L$ and it tends to increase toward downstream except for WWTP effluent. As expected, untreated wastewater and WWTP effluent were suggested as the major sources of water pollution in the Gap Stream. In this study, the water pollution of the Gap Stream is a significant undergoing typical eutrophication, caused by excessive phosphorus and nitrogen nutrients from WWTP located in the watershed. As a result, the critical factor for the water pollution was evaluated to dissolved inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients. Particularly, SRP is a most important for the eutrophication. It suggest that may occur in the most urban streams of Korean peninsula. Therefore, because the necessity of water pollution management in the urban stream, inorganic N and P nutrients should be included as an essential component of water quality criteria in the advanced water quality project of Korean Government by enforcing of water quality assessment and total maximum daily loads (TMDLs).

Simple Forecasting of Surface Ozone through a Statistical Approach

  • Objectives: Ozone ($O_3$) advisories are issued by provincial/prefectural and city governments in Korea and Japan when oxidant concentrations exceed the criteria of the related country. Advisories issued only after exposure to high $O_3$ concentrations cannot be considered ideal measures. Forecasts of $O_3$ would be more beneficial to citizens' health and daily life than real-time advisories. The present study was undertaken to present a simplified forecasting model that can predict surface $O_3$ concentrations for the afternoon of the day of the forecast. Methods: For the construction of a simple and practical model, a multivariate regression model was applied. The monitored data on gases and climate variables from Japan's air quality networks that were recorded over nearly one year starting from April 2016 were applied as the subject for our model. Results: A well-known inverse correlation between $NO_2$ and $O_3$ was confirmed by the monitored data for Iksan, Korea and Fukuoka, Japan. Typical time fluctuations for $O_3$ and $NO_x$ were also found. Our model suggests that insolation is the most influential factor in determining the concentration of $O_3$. $CH_4$ also plays a major role in our model. It was possible to visually check for the fit of a theoretical distribution to the observed data by examining the probability-probability (P-P) scatter plot. The goodness of fit of the model in this study was also successfully validated through a comparison (r=0.8, p<0.05) of the measured and predicted $O_3$ concentrations. Conclusions: The advantage of our model is that it is capable of immediate forecasting of surface $O_3$ for the afternoon of the day from the routinely measured values of the precursor and meteorological parameters. Although a comparison to other approaches for $O_3$ forecasting was not carried out, the model suggested in this study would be very helpful for the citizens of Korea and Japan, especially during the $O_3$ season from May to June.

낙동강 유역 환경유량에 대한 기후변화의 영향 분석 (An Analysis of the Effect of Climate Change on Nakdong River Environmental Flow)

  • This study describes the modeling of climate change impact on runoff across southeast Korea using a conceptual rainfall-runoff model TANK and assesses the results using the concept of environmental flows developed by International Water Management Institute. The future climate time series is obtained by scaling the historical series, informed by 4 global climate models and 3 greenhouse gas emission scenarios, to reflect a $4.0^{\circ}C$ increase at most in average surface air temperature and 31.7% increase at most in annual precipitation, using the spatio-temporal changing factor method that considers changes in the future mean seasonal rainfall and potential evapotranspiration as well as in the daily rainfall distribution. Although the simulation results from different global circulation models and greenhouse emission scenarios indicate different responses in flows to the climate change, the majority of the modeling results show that there will be more runoff in southeast Korea in the future. However, there is substantial uncertainty, with the results ranging from a 5.82% decrease to a 48.15% increase in the mean annual runoff averaged across the study area according to the corresponding climate change scenarios. We then assess the hydrologic perturbations based on the comparison between present and future flow duration curves suggested by IMWI. As a result, the effect of hydrologic perturbation on aquatic ecosystems may be significant at several locations of the Nakdong river main stream in dry season.

다양한 수생태계에 적용 가능한 유해물질의 영양확대계수 (trophic magnification factor, TMF) 연구 - 생활화학제품에서 기인한 성분과 어류조사를 중심으로 (A Direction of the Monitoring of Household Chemical Products in Aquatic Environments: The Necessities for a Trophic Magnification Factor (TMF) Research on Fish)

  • 수환경 내 다양한 유해물질의 위해성에 대한 관심은 환경 매체 내 물질의 농도뿐만 아니라 복잡한 먹이단계를 통한 어류 체내의 축적과 어류를 통한 인체 위해성으로 이어진다. 국내의 경우 2016년 이후 생활에서 사용되고 있는 화학제품(생활화학제품) 기인 위해 우려물질의 관리를 위한 등록과 평가 등에 관한 법률 개정과 함께 이들 물질의 환경 배출이 주목받게 됨에 따라 수생태계 내 잔류여부에 대한 조사도 수행되기 시작했다. 최근에는 이러한 물질의 관리를 위한 생태계 내 분포 조사 및 배출 계수 산정을 위한 연구사업이 수행되고 있는데 해당 연구 사업에서는 세정제, 접착제, 염색제, 방향제 등을 비롯한 화장품이나 세제 등에 포함되는 성분과 살균·소독제를 대상으로 영양단계 내 축적과 전달을 이해하기 위한 물질의 축적과 확대를 포함한다. 본 논문은 최근 발표된 생활화학제품기인 유해물질의 수환경 유입 및 분포에 대한 연구 결과를 정리하고 그 과학적 의미를 제시하며 또한 국내외 수행되고 있는 수환경 모니터링 기법에 대한 연구의 예를 바탕으로 현재 유해화학물질의 수환경 내 잔류 농도 및 분포, 생태계 모니터링을 위한 연구의 방향을 제안하고자 한다. 특히 어류를 대상으로 하는 조사에서 국내 수역에 서식하는 주요 어류조사 및 이를 바탕으로 한 대상 어류 선정의 필요성과 인체 위해성 연구의 필요성 등 시기적으로 요구되는 연구를 위한 영양단계 해석과 생물확대계수 연구의 방향을 소개하며 향후 국내에서 수행되고 있는 생물상 모니터링과 화학물질 연구에 대한 제언을 포함한다.

1997년 1월 5-7일에 발생한 동해안 대설에 관한 지역별 종관 특성 (Synoptic Analysis on Snowstorm Occurred along the East Coast of the Korean Peninsula during 5-7 January, 1997)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 동해안 대설시 기상 요소들의 일변화의 특성을 알아보고자 하는데 있다. 1997년 1월 5${\sim}$7일 사이에 발생한 대설을 하나의 사례로 분석하여 보았다. 12시간 간격으로 분석한 지상 일기도와 850hPa 등압면 일기도로부터 기압 패턴을 알아보았다. 영동 동해안 ${\cdot}$ 태백산간 ${\cdot}$ 영서 ${\cdot}$ 경북 동해안 지방으로 세분화하여 강설량 분포와 바람, 운량, 지상 온도, 이슬점 온도, 상대습도, 해면기압 같은 기상 요소들의 일 변화를 분석하여 보았다. 1월 5일은 기압골, 6일은 저기압 후면 그리고 7일은 북동기류 유입으로 눈이 내렸다. 기상 요소들의 일변화의 특징은 영동 동해안 지방인 강릉, 속초 지방의 지상풍향은 남서풍, 북서풍이 유입될 때 대설이 내렸고 태백산간 지방은 북동풍이 유입될 때 지속적인 강설 현상을 나타내었다. 그리고 풍속이 약화됨에 따라 강설도 약화되었다. 지상 온도와 이슬점 온도의 일 변화에서, 포항은 강릉, 속초 지방과 같이 동해안에 위치하면서도 대설이 발생하지 않은 것은 변질되지 않은 시베리아 기단의 영향을 계속 받았기 때문이다.
