The Samrangjin Caldera, a trapdoor-type, formed by the voluminous eruption of the silicic ash-flows of the Samrangjin Tuff which is above 630m thick at the northern inside of the caldera and thinnerly 80m at the southern inside. The caldera volcanism eviscerated the magma chamber by a series of explosive eruptions during which silicic magma was ejected to form the Samrangjin Tuff. The explosive eruptions began with phreatoplinian eruption, progressed through small plinian eruption and transmitted with ash-flow eruption. During the ash-flow eruption, contemporaneous collapse of the roof of the chamber resulted in the formation of the Samrangjin caldera, a subcircular depression subsiding above 550m deep. During postcaldera volcanism after the collapse, flow-banded rhyolite was emplaced as cental plug along the central vent and ring dikes along the caldera margins. Subsequently rhyodacite porphyry and dacite porphyry were emplaced along the inner side of the ring dike. After their emplacement, residual magma was emplaced as a hornblende biotite granite stock into the southwestern caldera margin. In the northeastern part, the eastern dikes were cut final intrusions of granodioritic to granitic composition along the fault zone of $^{\circ}$W trend.
The volcanic stratigraphy and geochemistry of the Cretaceous volcanic rocks in the southern part of the Pusan showed that the volcanic rocks of the study area consist of alternating pyroclastic rocks and andesitic lavas, apparently constituting a thick volcanic sequence of a stratovolcano. The andesitic rocks contain augite, plagioclase, and hornblende as phenocrysts. Matrix minerals are augite, magnetite, hornblende, apatite. Mafic minerals, such as chlorite, epidote, sericite, and iron oxides occur as alteration products. Dacitic volcanic breccia and rhyolitic welded ash-flow tuff locally overlie the andesitic rocks. The rocks reported in the previous studies as andesitic breccia and andesite plot in the field of basalt, basaltic andesite, andesite, dacite and rhyolite, based on their chemical compositions. The volcanic rocks of the study area belong to the calc-alkaline series, and the andesitic rocks which are predominant in the area plot to the field of orogenic andesite.
The study focused on the petrology and petrochemistry of the so called "Ganghwa syenitic rocks" which intruded into metasediment of basement in southeastern part of Ganghwa Island. The geologic sequence of the mapped area was shown in table 1, 10 model analyses and 7 chemical analyses on the rock samples taken from the Ganghwa syenitic rocks and Manisan granite have been used to discuss the nomenclature of the rocks and petrological relationship between rock types. The petrograpical and petrochemical features based on, the analyses are as follows: 1) Ganghwa syenitic rocks consist of Ganghwa alkali syenite and Ganghwa diorite porphyry which based on the classification of the subcommision on systematics of igneous of IGUS. Ganghwa diorite porphyry which occured as dike forms are intruded into Ganghwa alkali syenite. The rock forming minerals of Ganghwa alkali syenite are composed of perthite, plagioclase, quartz, hornblend and chlorite in major, and zircon, apatite, sericite and magnetite in minor. Ganghwa diorite porphyries consist of plagioclase, biotite, hornblend, orthoclase and chlorite, with, porphyritic texture. 2) In silica-oxides variation (Fig. 2) and AMF diagram (Fig_ 3), the Ganghwa alkali syenite is similar to the trend of Daly's average basalt-andesite-dacite-rhyolite than Skaergaard which shows the trend of the fractional crystallization of magma, and equivalent to the alkali rock series by Peacock. 3) The general trend of data points shift to plagioclase, and are superimposed on the alkali rich terminal part of the granodiorite province of SW Finland in normative Q-Kf-Pl(Fig. 4) and Or-Ab-An diagram respectively. The above-mentioned evidences suggested that the Ganghwa syenitic rocks are the differential products resulted by assimilation of intermediated magma and metasedment rock under relatively rapid cooling condition.
The igneous rocks in the Goseong area, the southwestern part of the Gyeongsang basin, are composed of the volcanic rocks, Bulgugsa granites and intrusive andesites. The volcanic rocks are andesitic lapilli tuff, dacite and rhyolite. The granites are mainly of hornblende-biotite granite and intruded into the sedimentary basement and the volcanic rocks. The intrusion of andesitic dyke is thought to be the latest igneous activity in the area. In the variation diagrams of the major oxides, the three igneous rock types show different variational trends, indicating that they were from the different magmatic pulses. K-Ar radiometric ages suggest that the igneous activity in the Goseong area had occurred during late Cretaceous period. The ages of the volcanic rocks seem likely to have become younger due to the thermal effect by the granitic intrusion. The major element compositoinal variation of the granites from the Goseong area are compared with those from the Jindong, Geoje and Masan areas. By the comparison, it is easily understood that the Jindong granites are fairly different from the other three granites. On the other hand, the Goseong, Geoje and Masan granites generally show similar variational trends with each other, suggesting that they are of similar genetic origin. Combining the similarity of the geochemical features and the difference of the intruding ages between the Goseong and Masan granites, it seems like that the magma generation from the same source materials had occurred at a temporal interval.
This studg is to clarify intrusion sequence and petrogenetic processes of the so-called schistose granites in the northeastheastern part of the Kwangju, Chonnam Province. The study area is composed of the Pre-cambrian and Unknown age metasediments, the Unknown age schistose granites and basic plutons, the Cretaceous sedimentary and volcanic rocks, and the Cretaceous Ogang-ri granite and dykes. The schistose granites of the study area is divided into three rock units based on relative intrusion age, mineralogical constituent and texture;SoonChang schistose granite, two mica granite and Sam-o-ri schistose granite. The schistose granites intruded into metasediments, are intruded by Ogang-ri granite and dikes, and overlain by the Cretaceous sedimentary and volcanic rocks. The schistose granites vary widely in composition (granite-granodiorite-tonalite) and content of porphyroblastic feldspar Caugen and rectangular shaped). The foliation of schistose granites shows similar trend to the Shinian direction. In especially, strong foliation reflects dynamic metamorphism by mortar texture and much content of well oriented biotite. These schistose granites are characterized by its gray feldspar porphyroblasts. This feldspar is considered to be formed by potassic metasomatism and assimilation of pelitic metasediments of unexposed highly metamorphosed rocks deeply buried under the level of the schistose granites emplacement. Variation of silica versus oxides of major elements shows that the schistose granites are similar to the trend of Daly's average basalt-andesite-dacite-rhyolite which shows the trend of the fractional crystallization of magma. AMF diagram shows that the schistose granite is corresponded to contaminated differentiation products such as Lower California batholith and Cascade lava. These evidence suggest that the schistose granite is a series of differentiation products formed by fractional crystallization that associated with srtongly contamination and potassic metasomatism.
The Jecheon granite mass has turtle-shape exposure of about $190km^2$ at vicinity of Jecheon-eup, and is elongated in the direction of NEE-SWW. It discordantly intrudes the Bakdalryong metamorphic rocks and the great limestone series(Samtaesan and Hungwolri formation) which belong to the pre-Cambrian and Ordovician, respectively. The mass is composed of five facies of different grain size; texture and charecteristic minerals. The five facies are (1) coarse grained biotite granodiorite, (2) fine grained hornblende biotite granodiorite, (3) coarse grained pink feldspar granodiorite (4) leucogranite, and (5) porphyritic biotite granite. The mutual relationship between each facies is intrusion in (1)-(2) and (2)-(3), but unknown in (3)-(4) and (4)-(5). 22 modal analyses and and 10 chemical analyses on more than a hundred of representative samples taken from the mass are listed as tables. Triangular plot of modal and normative Q-Kf-Pl of this mass show a continuous differentiation products from certain common magma by change of chemical composition and anorthite contents in plagioclase. The metamorphic facies of contact aureole in surrounding rocks adjacent to the granite body are corresponded to hornblende hornfels facies with mineral assemblages of wollastonite-diopside-calcite in calcareous rocks, and of quartz-biotite-muscovite-cordierite in argillaceous rocks. Variation of silica versus oxides of major elements shows that the mass is similar to the trend of Daly's average basalt-andesite-dacite-rhyolite which shows the trend of the fractional crystallization of magma, and is equivalent to the calc-alkali rock series by Peacock. AMF diagram shows that Jecheon granite mass is equivalent to normal diffentiation products such as skaergaard intrusion. The above evidences suggest that the Jecohon granite mass is normal differentiation products formed by fractional crystallization under relatively slow cooling condition.
The study focused to the so called "Yangpyeong Igneous Complex" which intruded into the Gyeong Gi gneiss complex of Pre-cambrian basement of Yangpyeong area. The geologic sequence of the mapped area was shown in table 1. In laboratory work, 31 modal analyses and 7 chemical analyses on the rock samples taken from the igneous complex have been made to discuss the nomenclature of the rocks and the petrological relationship between rock types. The petrographical and petrochemical features based on the analyses are as follow; 1) The classification of this rocks based on the systematics of igneous rocks of IUGS showed that Yangpyeong Igneous complex consist of hornblende gabbro, diorite and porphyritic monzonite. The major rock forming minerals in hornblende gabbro are hornblende and plagiodase ($An_{46{\sim}55}$), in diorite, hornblende, biotite and plagioclase ($An_{23{\sim}33}$) and in porphyritic monzonite, K-feldspar, plagioclase ($An_{21{\sim}35}$), hornblende and biotite. Hornblende gabbro and diorite show coarse to medium grained hypidiomorphic granular texture and porphyritic monzonite was named by the characteristically porphyritic texture of K-feldspar phenocrysts. 2) Silica-oxides variation diagram (Fig.4) illustrate that the igneous complex is similar ttl that of Daly's average basalt-andesite-dacite-rhyolite and equivalent to the calc-alkalic rock series of Peacock's rock series. In AMF diagram (Fig. 5), the trend of the igneous complex is nearly pararell to that of the Skaergaard intrusion which shows the trend of the fractional crystalization of magma. 3) In normative Or-Ab-An diagram (Fig. 6) the general trend of the data points from gabbro to porphyritic monzonite of the igneous complex directs to a point of Or/Ab=1:1 on the side of Or-Ab. The field and laboratory evidences suggested that the Yangpyeong igneous complex was thought to be a series of comagmatic differential products.
The Keumryeong deposits is a low grade copper deposits in which copper minerals form disseminated grains and thin veinlets in felsic volcanics seem to be dacite. Alteration of the volcanics consists mainly pervasive propylitization and silicification. Potassic alteration characterized by biotite developed locally adjacent to southwestern contact of granodiorite body. Principal sulfide minerals in altered zone are mainly pyrite and lesser chalcopyrite. Chalcopyrite content in potassic zone is relatively higher than that of surrounding propylitized zone. Pyrite and chalcopyrite accompanies magnetite, molybdenite, sphalerite, pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite, pentlandite, marcasite, hematite, ilmenite, rutile, bismuthinite and native Bi as disseminations, veinlets and knots. Granodiorite body is propylitized and contains veinlets of pyrite, chalcopyrite and molybdenite. Fluid inclusions in sulfide-bearing quartz veinlets and quartz grains of felsic volcanics and granodiorite in altered zone consist of liquid-rich, vapor-rich, $CO_2-bearing$ and halite-bearing inclusions. These four types of inclusion intimately associated on a microscopic scale and indicate condensing or boiling of ore fluid during mineralization. Homogenization temperature of coexisting fluid inclusions are mostly in the range of 350 to $450^{\circ}C$. High salinity fluid contains 28.6 to 48.4 weight percent NaCI equivalent and moderate salinity fluid cotains 0.5 to 12.5 weight percent NaCl equivalent. Pressure estimated from $CO_2$ mole fraction of $CO_2-bearing$ inclusion range 160 to 375 bars. The Kigu copper deposits is a fissure filling copper vein developed 500 m south from the Keumryong deposits. Mineralogy and fluid inclusion data of the Kigu deposits are similar to that of the Keumryeong deposits. Homogenization temperature of fluid inclusions from the Kigu deposits are reasonable agreement with temperature estimated from sulfidation curve of cubanite-chalcopyrite-pyrite-pyrrhotite and pyrite-pyrrhotite mineral assemblages. Not only mineral occurrence and wall rock alteration in the Keumryeong deposits but also fluid inclusion data such as temperature, salinity, pressure and boiling evidences are similar to those of porphyry copper deposits.
The Naeyeonsan Tuff is a stratigraphic unit which is distinguished as a cooling unit in the volcanic rocks of the northern Pohang. The Naeyeonsan Tuff, which is composed of crystals of plagioclase, quartz and hornblende, glasses of pumice and shard, and lithics of dacite, rhyolite, sandstone and shale, belongs to a lapilli tuff field according to the granulometric classification and to a vitric tuff field according to the constituent classification. The tuffs mostly develop welding foliations by dense welding and flatterning pumices and shards, and show several flow indicators by pyroclastic flowing. We can know a movement pattern from flow lineations and imbrications by pumices and lithics, and lateral gradings in isopleth map by average largest lithics and pumices in the Naeyeonsan Tuff, which indicate that the Naeyeonsan Tuff had a possible source area from the southeastern part.
The volcanic rocks in Saryangdo area are composed of Witseom Andesite, Punghwari Tuff, Araetseom Andesite, Obido Formation, Namsan Rhyolite and Saryangdo Tuff in ascending order. The volcanic rocks has a range of andesite-rhyodacite-rhyolite, which indicates calc-alkaline series and volcanic arc of orogenic belt. In Harker diagrams for trace element and REE pattern, these are also distinguished into so three groups(Witseom Andesite, Araetseom Andesite and Saryangdo Tuff) that each unit is interpreted to have originated in different magma chamber. The Saryangdo Tuff exhibits systematically(chemical zonations that gradually change) from lower dacite to upper rhyolite in section. The systematic sequence of compositional variations suggests that the tuffs were formed by successive eruptions of upper to lower part of a zoned magma chamber in which relatively dacitic magma is surrounded around rhyolitic magma of the central part. The zoned magma chamber was formed from marginal accretion and crystal settling that resulted form magmatic differentiations by fractional crystallization.
