  • The vocal efficiency(VE) can be calculated as the ratio of acoustic power to aerodynamic power. It relates to the vocal intensity, air Sow rate and subglottic pressure. In this study, we treated 20 cases of vocal polyps and 10 cases of vocal nodules by way of laryngo-microsurgery or laser laryngo-microsurgery. The VE was measured preoperatively and postoperatively in all cases. The results showed that there was a significant improvement of VE postoperatively than that of preoperative measurement(p<0.01) in vocal Polyp group. However, there was no significant difference(p>0.05) in vocal nodule group. Through comparing the results, we obtained the conclusion : The laryngo-microsurgery is the reliable method of management for the vocal polyps, but f3r the vocal nodules, the laryngo-microsurgery should be selected after other more conservative approaches fail to produce the desired results.

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate the effect of self-control and interpersonal relationship satisfaction on department satisfaction among dental hygiene students. Methods: A survey was conducted on 306 dental hygiene students from Seoul, Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, Jeolla, and Gyeongsang. Results: The factors affecting college department satisfaction of dental hygiene students were interpersonal relationship satisfaction (β=0.609), volunteer activities_dummy 1 (No/Yes) (β=0.131), and year_dummy 3 (1/4) (β=0.128). The most deterministic factor was interpersonal relationship satisfaction with the explanatory power of 37%. Conclusions: Based on these results, it is thought that research on department satisfaction needs to be actively conducted to develop adequate measures and programs to enhance department satisfaction of students.

  • Antimicrobial peptides are widely distributed in nature and appear to play important roles in the host defense of plants and animals. In this study, we isolated and characterized three antimicrobial peptides from skin secretions of the oriental fire-bellied toad, Bombina orientalis. These purified peptides were referred to as P1, P2, and P3 in order of their elution. P1, P2, and P3 have molecular weights of 2569, 2566, and 2370 Da by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer, respectively. They are heat-stable, amphipathic peptides of 24-27 amino acids without cysteine residues. All three peptides are active against representative gram negative and gram positive bacterial species, and in particular, P1 appears to have distinctive antifungal activity. However, no significant hemolytic activity was found for these peptides.

  • Textile decalcomania printing is how after the disperse dye which is melting and vaporizing absorbs on the surface of the cloth, it colors by permeating into the cloth inside. So it has applied a lot to the synthetic fiber like polyester. However, because there is no showing right temperature and time in case of printing on the polyester fiber and the microfiber, this study aims at it. The experimental methods are like this : first measuring the density for the objective judgment, and measuring colors with the colorimeter, and then study for the color reproduction through a visual evaluation.

  • The ${\beta}$-lactamase inhibitory protein (BLIP) produced by Streptomyces exfoliatus SMF19 was purified(33 kDa) and the N-terminal amino acid sequence was determined as NH2-ATSVVAWGGNND. Genomic DNA library of S. exfoliatus SMF19 was constructed in pWE15 and recombinants harbouring the corresponding gene were selected by colony hybridization to the mixture of 36-mer oligonucleotide designed from the N-terminal amino acid sequence. The corresponding gene (bliX) was isolated on a 4-kb ApaI fragment of S. exfoliatus SMF19 chromosomal DNA and then sequenced. The bliX consisting of 1, 119bp encoded a mature protein with a deduced amino acid sequence of 342 residues and also encoded a 40-amino-acid signal sequence. No significant sequence similarity to bliX was found by pairwise comparison using various protein and nucleotide sequences.

  • The presence of the nitric oxide synthase (NOS) enzyme from Salmonella typhimurium (S. typhimurium) was identified by measuring radiolabeled L-$[^3H]$citrulline and NO, and Western blot analysis. NOS was partially purified by both Mono Q ion exchange and Superose 12HR size exclusion column chromatography, sequentially. The molecular weight of NOS was estimated to be 93.3 kDa by Western blot analysis. The enzyme showed a significant dependency on the typical NOS cofactors; an apparent Km for L-arginine of 34.7 mM and maximum activity between $37^{\circ}C$ and $43^{\circ}C$. The activity was inhibited by NOS inhibitors such as aminoguanidine and $N^{G}$ $N^{G}$-dimethyl-L-arginine. taken together, partially purified NOS in S. typhimurium is assumed to be a different isoform of mammalian NOSs.OSs.

  • The RAD4 gene is essential for nucleotide excision repair in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It has been known that the deduced amino acid sequence of Rad4 protein contains three DNA-dependent ATPase/helicase motifs. To determine the biochemical activities and functional role of RAD4 the Rad4 protein was expressed and purified. Immunoblot analysis showed a specific band of 21 kDa, which was well-matched with the size of open reading frame of the RAD4 gene. The purified Rad4 protein had no detectable helicase activity. However, the protein could interact with double stranded oligonucleotides, as judged by mobility shift assay. This result suggests that the Rad4 protein is a DNA binding protein.

  • A deep-dwelling goby, Obliquogobius yamadai, was described as the first record from Korea based on three specimens (30.3~47.0 mm SL) collected from the southern sea off Jeju Island. The species is characterized by having I, 9 second dorsal fin rays, scaled lateral side of nape, smaller head with large eye, and asymmetrical caudal fin dorsoventrally as well as about nine yellowish bars on body side. A new Korean name, "Gip-eun-ba-da-no-ran-ddi-mang-dug", is proposed for the species.
