  • This paper describes functions required for implementation of digital television (DTV) broadcast receivers. The necessary functions for the DTV receiver vary with the transmission media-terrdstrial, cable and satellite. This paper briefly introduces its hardware and software structure, This paper also presents the future of DTV receivers according to the tomorrow's broadcast environment.

  • TV White Spaces (TVWS) are freed up after transition from analog television to Digital Television (DTV). Some wireless communications are allowable to operate in TVWSs, such unlicensed Wireless Fidelity (WiFi). Because TVWSs are located in the VHF and UHF bands, TVWSs can provide significantly better coverage and wall penetration inside buildings and other structures than the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi frequencies currently in use. Therefore, this paper assumes that WiFi will be deployed in TVWSs. However, the interference impact of WiFi on DTV has to be taken into account. The interference probability in DTV receiver was evaluated by using Spectrum Engineering Advanced Monte-Carlo Analysis Tool (SEAMCAT). As a result, when 20 WiFi UEs are simultaneously operating at the maximum transmit power of 23 dBm and the guard band is 22 MHz, the protection distance should be at least 6 km to meet the interference probability of 5% in DTV receiver.

  • This paper is about frequency allocation of LTE Base Station(BS) in the spare band which is generated by DTV transition. In the case of frequency allocation of LTE BS in adjacent band with DTV channel 51 among the spare band, the guard bands that requires for no interference between LTE and DTV system were calculated. As a result, 5.5 MHz of guard band for LTE BS and 2 MHz of guard band for DTV receiver were suggested based on interference analysis between LTE BS and DTV BS, respectively.

  • 본 논문은 열악한 채널 환경에서 ATSC 방식의 DTV 수신기의 성능 개선을 위해 빔 선택형 DTV 수신기 구조와 최적의 빔 선택을 위한 알고리즘을 제시하고자 한다. 빔 선택형 DTV 수신기의 채널 개선으로 인한 수신기의 성능 개선 효과와 이에 따른 최적 빔 선택을 위한 조건들을 살펴된다. 그리고 필드 테스트를 통해 측정된 ATSC DTV 수신 채널 모델링을 이용하여 등차기만을 사용하는 기존의 DTV수긴기와 빔 선택형 DTV수신기의 성능을 모의 실험을 통해 확인하였다.

  • To investigate the DTV coverage especially in downtown areas and improve the performance of DTV receivers, it is necessary to capture the receiving DTV signals that contain the complex characteristics of the real-world RF environments and regenerate them in a laboratory without the performance degradation. In this paper, we developed a DTV RF capture and regeneration system adapting digital signal processing and high speed hard disk storage techniques and analyze its characteristics. The system can capture and replay the DTV RF signals based on a real-time condition in a hard disk. There Is no time limit for capturing RF data within the installed storage capacity. We can expect various Possible applications for this system such as a tool for the development of the receiver performance analysis, design and analysis for the DTV coverage areas, etc.

  • In this paper, we developed a DTV RF (Radio frequency) capture, analysis, and regeneration system adapting digital signal processing and high speed hard disk interfacing techniques and analyzed characteristics of captured RF signal. This system can be used in the various field of DTV transmission because this system can capture the receiving real DTV signals and analyze captured RF signals that contain the complex characteristics of the real-world RF environments and regenerate it in a laboratory without the performance degradation. The system can capture and replay the DTV RF signals in real-time on hard disk. Therefore, there is no limit for the amount of captured data with in the installed storage capacity. We can expect various possible applications for this system such as a tool for the development of the receiver performance analysis, design, and analysis for the DTV coverage areas, etc. This system can also be used as RF signal analyzer.

A Study on Interference Effect between DTV Service and IMT Service (DTV 서비스와 IMT 서비스간 간섭 영향 연구)

  • Korea has made a plan to allocate CH 14~CH 51 (470 MHz~698 MHz) for DTV transition. Therefore, It is a necessary to take account compatibility between DTV service and other potential services. This paper assumes that DTV service operates on CH 51(692 MHz~698 MHz) and IMT service operates on CH 52(698 MHz~704 MHz), and then analyzes compatibility between DTV service and IMT service with Spectrum Engineering Advanced Monte Carlo Analysis Tool(SEAMCAT). The interference probability from IMT service to DTV service and capacity loss of IMT service due to interference from DTV service is studied, respectively. For the simulation, four interference cases in four different scenarios are considered. With considering the depolarization factor, a guard band of 8 MHz is required in the case of between IMT service downlink(DL) and DTV service, in the case of between IMT service uplink(UL) and DTV service, a guard band of 6 MHz is needed for the worst case of urban scenario on consideration of more then 15 dB increase of IMT system base station(BS) receiver blocking level.

  • 본 논문은 ATSC2.0 기반 8-VSB/MH 융합형 3DTV (A/104 Part 5 Service Compatible 3DTV using Main and Mobile Hybrid Delivery) 방식 수신모듈개발에 대한 내용을 기술한다. ATSC A/104 Part 5 SC-MMH 3DTV 방식은 2014. 8 월 미국의 지상파 DTV 표준화 논의단체인 ATSC 에서는 고정 HD 서비스를 위한 8-VSB 채널과, In-band 모바일 TV 서비스를 위한 ATSC M/H 채널을 이용하여, 주파수 효율을 극대화한 새로운 방식의 고정/이동 TV 융합형 3DTV 방식을 ATSC 3DTV Standard 로 채택되었으며, 2015 년말까지 좌/우영상의 화질차이 극복을 위한 화질개선안(Video Enhancement Information) 역시 ATSC 국제표준채택이 유력하다. 본 논문에서는 이와 같은 8-VSB/MH 융합형 수신기 개발에 필수적으로 필요한 8-VSB/MH 융합형 수신모듈 구현에 대한 내용을 기술한다.

  • In this paper, we analyze the effect of interference between DTV system and IEEE 802.11n. We set DTV as a victim receiver and IEEE 802.11n as an interfering system. When they exist in the same area, they can make an interference effect. Therefore, we calculate a minimum coupling loss (MCL) and compare the resulting value with a path loss for determining whether there exists a potential interference or not. The minimum separation distance is determined when the path loss is larger than the MCL.

  • This paper introduces an development of high-definition(HD) 3DTV experimental broadcasting system and its experimental service that has been launched via three broadcasting network including terrestrial, cable and satellite in the late of 2010. This 3DTV experimental broadcasting service employs an innovative 3DTV broadcasting mechanism, called as dual stream method in which left and right images are encoded by using each video encoder and multiplexed using MPEG-2 system technology for guaranteeing backward-compatibility with legacy DTV. This paper specifically describes the developed experimental broadcasting system, concentrating on 3DTV re-multiplexer and 3DTV receiver. Finally, implementation and terrestrial 3DTV experimental broadcasting service results will be introduced from the point of objective and subjective evaluation.
