A Study on Optimal ERP and Antenna HAAT for Transmission of the 8-VSB DTTB (8-VSB DTTB 송신을 위한 최적 ERP와 안테나 HAAT에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we make plans for facilities, the 8-VSB DTV transmission system, installed in the near future, based on presently NTSC TV operating it. First of all we estimate transmission power for analog NTSC, digital 8-VSB terrestrial broadcasting and the effective condition of optimal receiving power result from it. It's also to estimate optimal receiving condition by using Longley-Rice's Field Strength calculating method that is to guess a profile between transmitting station and many receiving points. The 8-VSB DTV Propagation aims to high-speed transmission rates of 19.39Mbps datum to enable HDTV(High Definition Television) at NTSC 6MHz bandwidth. First of all, an optimization of field strength between transmission station and receiver must deal with considerable. Because of these reasons, 8-VSB DTV transmission needs effective extension for NTSC TV service coverage. Finally we present the transmitting output that is expected in changing NTSC VHF to DTV UHF for maintaining the transmitting output of NTSC TV that is equal to 8-VSB DTV in service coverage.

  • In this paper, a design method for a compact broadband planar monopole antenna fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) is studied. The proposed broadband monopole is optimized for terrestrial digital television (DTV) reception. In order to achieve broadband characteristics, the monopole and ground conductor are gradually tapered. By loading slit pairs on both monopole and ground plane, the proposed antenna is miniaturized. The monopole is fed by a CPW with 75-ohm characteristic impedance on an FR4 substrate and its size is $100mm{\times}200mm$. The optimized monopole antenna for DTV band (470-806 MHz) is fabricated on an FR4 substrate and tested experimentally to verify the results of this study.

  • In this paper, a digital terrestrial TV reception antenna which can be applied to the house and vehicle windows was designed and investigated. The proposed antenna was configured for a monopole antenna structure with $230mm{\times}430mm{\times}3mm$, and the antenna parameters are calculated by using the OpenFDTD simulator. The proposed antenna can be used to the receiver for domestic digital broadcast in UHF.

  • In this paper, a digital terrestrial TV reception antenna which can be applied to the fade zone was designed and investigated. The proposed antenna was configured for a wire antenna structure with $16cm{\times}14cm$, and the antenna parameters are calculated by using the MoM method. The proposed antenna can be used to the receiver for domestic digital broadcast in UHF.

  • 본 논문은 ATSC방식의 지상파 DTV의 이동수신 성능 개선을 위해 적응 어레이 안테나를 사용하여 입사되는 신호의 위상 정보를 통해 원하는 신호원의 방향을 찾고 주신호와 다중경로 신호 사이에 capon알고리즘을 통해 최대의 이득을 얻는 최적의 빔을 형성하며 이동수신채널인 도플러효과가 포함된 다중경로신호득의 영향을 약화시킨다. 빔형성 알고리즘을 통한 채널의 개선이 LMS 알고리즘을 사용한 통화기의 성능을 얼마나 향상시키는지 전산 모의 실험을 통해 확인하였다.

  • KBS and ETRI have co-developed an advanced DOCR(Digital On Channel Repeater) which has an equalization and pre-distortion function and can be operated properly under lower isolation of reception and transmission antennas. Field tests of the DOCR were performed twice in Suwon area in 2004 and 2005. This paper summarizes the characteristics of the DOCR system and field test results in Suwon. The changes in DOCR coverage according to the different generations of ATSC DTV receivers were also analyzed. Basic concept to apply the DOCR system in DTV broadcasting networks in Korea is suggested through test results.

  • In the next generation of mobile communication systems, high data rates and high capacity will be possible if multiple antennas are used at new frequencies. This paper presents the correlations between channel parameter path loss (PL), delay spread (DS), angular spread (AS) and K-factor established based on channel measurements. To avoid interference from Korean DTV broadcasting, we measured the channel characteristics in urban/rural/suburban areas on Jeju Island using a channel sounder and $4{\times}4$ antennas. The correlations between channel parameter show that the wireless channel characteristics can be determined and effective communication system design can be produced for use in similar environments.

  • To verify the performance of a Distributed Translator Network(DTxR) system in the real world conditions, 5 legacy DTV broadcasting repeater sites were implemented with 5 DTxR systems and field-tested by the DTV field test truck. The 4 DTV broadcasting repeater sites are selected in congested areas where their service areas are overlapped and the 5th site is deviated from the other sites to examine the effect of long-delayed multipath signals. First of all, we checked the receiving signal of the main station that used as a transmitting signal in 5 DTxR systems on the pre-selected 60 test points and tested every case of a DTxR system's on & off except 1 repeater site due to the already built-in DTV repeater system. The test items are received signal electric field strength, noise margin, ease of reception and subjective evaluation of the picture quality for received signals. We used 3rd, 5th, and 6th generation DTV receivers to examine the differences of the receivability by each generation of DTV receivers. Reviewing the test results, we conclude that the DTxR system can be adopted in the current DTV Repeater sites and it could improve the quality and receivability of the main signals by extending the service areas and enhancing the signal levels in the shadow areas without using the extra broadcasting channels.

  • In this paper, a terrestrial transmission system is proposed for the next generation digital television (DTV) system by applying a hybrid multi-input multi-output (MIMO) technology based on linear dispersion codes (LDCs). The digital video broadcasting-2nd generation terrestrial (DVB-T2) system adopted a space time block code (STBC) for improving receive performance. However, the data rate of STBC is not increased in proportion to the transmitter. The hybrid STBC scheme utilizes several STBC transmission blocks for increasing data rate. It is possible to increase the data rate and performance in the receiver by utilizing LDC. The performances of the proposed and conventional hybrid STBC schemes are evaluated through computer simulations.

A Parabolic Edge Planar Monopole Antenna for Indoor Digital TV Reception (디지털 TV 실내 수신을 위한 포물선 엣지 형태의 평면 모노폴 안테나)

  • In this paper, a parabolic edge planar monopole antenna for indoor DTV reception is presented. The antenna has broadband property with the planar monopole and ground of parabolic edges. It is designed close to self-complementary structure as changing curvature of edges of monopole and ground. Monopole and ground conductors of the antenna are on the same plane, and excited through CPW feeding. It is fabricated on an FR4 dielectric substrate of $\varepsilon_r=4.4$, and the dimension is $40\;mm{\times}200\;mm{\times}1.6\;mm$. Return loss is larger than 10 dB in 470~806 MHz. Maximum gain is 1.86 dBi on E-plane at 810 MHz and 3.86 dBi on H-plane at 600 MHz.
