  • 현재 운용중인 NTSC송신시스템을 근거로 가까운 장래에 설치되어 운용될 8-VSD DTV전송시스템의 재원을 설계한다. 먼저 아나로그 NTSC와 디지털 8-VSH DTV의 지상파 방송의 경우 최적의 수신전계를 유지할 수 있는 조건을 검토하고, Longley-Rice의 전계강도 산출법을 이용해서 수신을 위한 최소한의 전계강도의 임계값을 산출한다 8-VSH DTV전송은 NTSC 6MHz대역에서 HDTV가 가능하도록 19.39Mbps의 데이타를 고속으로 전송하는데 그 목표fmf 두고 있으므로 무엇보다 송 · 수신점 사이의 전계강도의 최적화는 중요한 문제이므로 8-VSB DTV전송은 NTSC 서비스 커버리지에 비하여 확장되거나 효율적이어야만 한다. 본 연구에서는 산출결과 NTSC가 8-VSH DTV와 동일한 서비스 커버리지를 유지하기 위하여 NTSC VHF에서 DTV UHF로 전환시 필요한 송신출력과 NTSC UHF에서 DTV UHF로의 전환시 필요한 송신출력을 산출한다.

  • The 8-VSB modulation technology developed by ATSC was adapted for national terrestrial DTV broadcasting. It uses same bandwidth of 6㎒ as the one of NTSC TV broadcasting. The simulcast on the both of analog and digital is mandated for some period, some shortage within the limited frequency resource . ATSC transmission technology is excellent in long distance broadcasting, but it is even poorer than other transmission technology In mobile receiving. The design of transmission system in the ATSC broadcasting is food enough with the provision of wide area service without Interference from adjacent channel.   • In this paper, we make plans for facilities, the 8-VSB DTV transmission system, installed in the near future, based on presently NTSC TV operating it. First of all we estimate transmission power for analog NTSC, digital 8-VSB terrestrial broadcasting and the effective condition of optimal receiving power result from it. It's also to estimate optimal receiving condition by using Longley-Rice's Field Strength calculating method that is to guess a profile between transmitting station and many receiving points. The 8-VSB DTV Propagation aims to high-speed transmission rates of 19.39Mbps datum to enable HDTV(High Definition Television) at NTSC 6MHz bandwidth. First of all, an optimization of field strength between transmission station and receiver must deal with considerable. Because of these reasons, 8-VSB DTV transmission needs effective extension for NTSC TV service coverage. Finally we present the transmitting output that is expected in changing NTSC VHF to DTV UHF for maintaining the transmitting output of NTSC TV that is equal to 8-VSB DTV in service coverage.

지상파 DTV 현장비교시험 결과

  • 미국 지상파방송방식 ATSC의 전송방식(8-VSB)과 유럽지상파방송방식 DVB-T의 전송방식(COFDM)에 대한 현장비교시험이 서울을 비롯한 수도권 일원에서 2001년 9월 18일부터 2001년 11월 28일까지 약 3개월에 걸쳐 실시되었다. 이 시험에서는 도심지, 방사선, 원거리, 계층변조, 실내수신, 이동수신 등 6가지 유형에 대해 측정이 수행되었다. 측정결과, 유럽식이 미국식에 비해 모든 측정유형에서 우수한 성능을 보였다. 산악이 많고 도시에 건물이 밀집되어 다중경로간섭의 영향이 큰 한국의 환경에서는 유럽식이 더 적합한 방식임이 이 시험을 통해 입증되었고, 특히 이동수신의 경우 미국식은 거의 수신이 불가능한데 비해 유럽식은 표준화질에서 95%이상, 상당히 높은 고화질에서 70%이상의 수신율을 보여 미래의 새로운 서비스에 대한 적응성에서도 유럽식이 우수한 것으로 평가되었다.

A Study on Performance Improvement to Use Dummy Elements on A Monopole Array-assisted Doppler Spread Compensator for A Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting Receiver

  • This paper proposes an array antenna assisted Doppler spread compensator with dummy elements which are placed on either end of a monopole array for a digital terrestrial television broadcasting (DTTB) receiver. An array antenna assisted Doppler spread compensator, proposed previously, has a major drawback in performance degradation owing to mutual coupling effect among array elements. In order to solve the mutual coupling problem, dummy elements, placed on both sides of the monopole array mitigate performance degradation of a Doppler spread compensator arising from the mutual coupling among monopole array elements. Computer simulation results show that the dummy elements can reduce this performance degradation as well as expand the operating bandwidth of a Doppler spread compensator.

  • In this paper, proposed is the dual-mode algorithm of blind decision feedback equalizer (DFE) for digital terrestrial television signals. According to channel impairments, the proposed dual-mode algorithm for blind DFE operates in decision-directed mode or in blind mode of operation. The error signals being used in tap update of the equalizer are generated in the best mode of operations, so that the confidence of equalizer tap coefficient update is more accurate. As a result, it is possible to track the channel characteristics variations by automatic switching over between two modes of operations. For 8-level vestigial sideband modulated digital television signals, the mean square errors and symbol error rates of the proposed algorithm are compared with those of conventional methods. And the usability of the proposed scheme is assessed by computer simulations under various static and dynamic multipath channel environments.

  • In this study, the problems In the current HDTV programming strategies were critically inquired into and reform measures were sought through in-depth interview with HDTV programming staff and program directors of the three major terrestrial broadcasting systems that are in their fourth year of HDTV broadcasting, and through analysis of the characteristics of HDTV programming. The analysis of this study showed that the time allocated to HDTV programs far exceeded the thirteen hours per week set by the Korean Broadcasting Commission. However, the percentage of HDTV programs broadcasted during the prime time was low, which as a result, limited the opportunity for the audiences to experience HDTV. furthermore, the low percentage of programs such as documentaries, sports, movies, etc. that are preferred by early adopters and through which the features of HDTV including high quality of picture, wide screen, etc. can be fully applied and shown did not appear to help in accelerating the popularization of HDTV In order to improve these problems, despite their having to bear the initial production costs, the broadcasting systems must come up with an aggressive strategies for the programming of documentaries, sports programs and dramas in order to strengthen the competitiveness in HDTV production and secure future adopters, and together with this, full support from the policy planning authorities and companies manufacturing electric home appliances, the other leaders in DTTB(Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting) transition, are necessary in order to promote the production of HD contents.
