  • UMTS(Universal Mobile Telecommunication System) is recently recognized as a standard for 3rd generation of wireless networks and DSCH(Down-link Shared Chanel) is considered as a very effective multiplexing method in UMTS. So, it is inevitable to develope an effective packet scheduling algorithms for DSCH in UMTS. This paper describes an improved packet scheduling algorithm for DSCH of UMTS. The algorithm takes consideration in channel state for each mobile terminal to maximize link utilization, delay threshold for class 3 traffic and throughput for class 4 to get long term fairness. To verify the algorithm, we programmed a simulator using PARSEC simulation tool and got some simulation results by it. The simulation results show that the algorithm has reasonable characteristics in both of link utilization and fair-ness by trade-off.

  • Downlink Shared Channel (OSCH) is used for high-speed packet service transmission in WCOMA. The power-controlled performances of the OSCH are studied through simulation works. Under various channel conditions and mobile speeds, the simulation results show that current power control scheme in WCDMA, especially for the OSCH power control, has some problems. In this paper, cause of problems is revealed. Also, the quantitative result related to the OSCH power control problem is analyzed.

  • According to current RRC procedures, network does not know either how long it will take the RRC reconfiguration message (such as Physical Channel Reconfiguration (PCR)/Transport Channel Reconfiguration (TCR)/Radio Bearer Reconfiguration (RBR)) to be transmitted over the source cell or how long the UE will take to reconfigure on receiving the message, it has to assume the worst-case. Thus, it typically indicates a conservative activation time, leading to potentially large interruption for voice traffic, particularly if the source cell signal strength has degraded. This proposals allow the UE to receive the serving cell related information (carried today in PCR/RBR/TCR message) in an Active Set Update message.

  • In this paper, we propose a SPD(Selective Packet Delay) scheme to improve the performance of High-Speed Downlink Shared Channel(HS-DSCH) employing N-Channel Stop and Wait retransmission scheme in High Speed Downlink Packet Access(HSDPA) system. The proposed SPD coordinates packet transmissions according to the channel condition. When the channel condition is bad, packet transmission is forcedly delayed, and the designated time slot is set over to other users in good channel condition. Hence, the SPD is able to reduce the average transmission delay for packet transmission under the burst error environments. In addition, we propose two packet scheduling schemes called SPD-LDPF(Long Delayed Packet First) and SPD-DCRR(Deficit Compensated Round Robin) that are effectively combined with the SPD scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme has better performance in terms of delay, throughput and fairness.
