An anionic polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) were synthesized from the poly (tetramethylene glycol) (PTMG, Mw = 2000 g/mol), mixed isocyanate of dicyclohexylmethane-4,4'-diisocyanate $(H_{12}-MDI)$ and 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI), and dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA) as anionic site, following a prepolymer mixing process. Triethylamine (TEA) was used as a neutralization agent and the ethylenediamine (EDA) as the chain extender of the prepolymer. The effects of the DMPA molar ratio and aromatic diisocyanate content in the mixed isocyanate on the particle size and viscosity of PUD were studied. Also, the mechanical and thermal properties of the PUD cast films were discussed according to the molar ratio of DMPA and aromatic isocyanate content. It was found that the particle size and the viscosity of an anionic PUD decreased with increasing DMPA molar ratio but increased with increasing aromatic isocyanate (MDI) content in the mixed isocyanate at the constant DMPA content. Tensile strength of the PUD cast films increased and elongation at break decreased with increasing DMPA content at the constant mixed isocyanate molar ratios. In thermal degradation temperature of PUD cast films, the effect of DMPA contents was great but the effect of aromatic isocyanate contents at the low DMPA content was very slight respectively.

In this study, polyurethane dispersion was prepared by polyester polyol, 4,4-dicyclohexylmethane diisocyanate ($H_{12}MDI$), dimethylolpropionic acid (DMPA), and monomeric diol. The effect of various monomeric diol, polyol/monomeric diol molar ratio and DMPA contents on the properties of polyurethane dispersion were investigated. As the molecular weight of monomeric diol and monomeric diol molar ratio increased, $T_g$ gradually increased. And when DMPA contents increased, also $T_g$ gradually increased. In the results of mechanical properties, when the molecular weight of monomeric diol, monomeric diol molar ratio of polyol/monomeric diol and DMPA contents increased, tensile strength was increased. Finally, optimum peel strength obtained when polyol/monomeric diol ratio was 8 : 2.

Waterborne polyurethane(PU) microgel dispersions were synthesized with different mole ratio of polytetramethylene glycol(PTMG) to dimethylol propionic acid(DMPA). Particle size distribution, thermal and mechanical properties of the PU microgels were investigated. Particle size of the microgels was distributed in the range of $98{\sim}$680{\mu}m$ and decreased with increasing the mole ratio of DMPA and 1,2,6-hexanetriol. Glass transition temperature and melting temperature of the microgels were in the range of $-79.7 {\sim}-78.1^{\circ}C$, $22{\sim}24^{\circ}C$ respectively. Tensile strength and elongation of the PU microgel films were maximum in the case of 60/40 mole ratio of PTMG/DMPA.
Polyorganosiloxane modified polyurethane (PDMS-PU) polymers were prepared from copolymerization of ${\alpha}$,${\omega}$-hydroxypropyl terminated polyorganosiloxane with isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), polypropylene glycol (PPG), and 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl) propionic acid (DMPA). Hydrophobic polyorganosiloxane was introduced in polyurethane main chain as soft segment block unit. The isocyanate groups in PDMS-PU block copolymer was blocked with 2-butanon oxime and obtained PDMS-PU dispersions in water by neutralizing with triethylamine (TEA). The deblocking temperature of PDMS-PU polymer was measured from thermal analysis. The good stability of the PDMS-PU dispersion was obtained by dispersing into water. PDMS-PU prepolymers were prepared with various contents of DMPA under [NCO]/[OH] = 1.12~1.53 equivalent ratio. Increasing DMPA from 7.2, 13.4, and 18.7 mole% in preparation of PDMS-PU polymer, particle sizes were decreased from 156, 100, 65 dnm. Also contact angle and adhesive strength were measured.
Polyurethane(PU) prepolymers were prepared from polyol and diisocyanate. Unionized PU prepolymers were synthesized from poly(propylene glycol)(PPG, MW: 1000), 2,2-bis (hydroxymethyl) propionic acid(DMPA), and isophorone diisocyanate(IPDI) by prepolymer syhthesizing process. After PU prepolymers were dispersed into water, the physical properties were investigated by changing the molar ratio of polyol and diisocyanate. The results showed a stable state with the best physical properties when the prepolymer was composed of PPG/DMPA with hard segment=40%, NCO%=3.43%, [NCO]: [OH]=1.5: 1.0 in molar ratio, and was dispersed into water with 30% solid content. PU prepolymers also were synthesized with various molar ratio of PPG and DMPA. Upon higher molar ratio of DMPA, particle size of polyurethane dispersion(PUD) gradually decreased. PU-prepolymers prepared from the various blocking agents represented characteristic initial deblocking temperatures that depended on the blocking agents, and the beginning of deblocking occured within 30 mins on all the blocking agents used.

A series of UV-curable polyurethane acrylate ionomer were synthesized from isophorone diisocyanate(IPDI), poly(tetramethylene ether glycol)(PTMG), 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)propionic acid (CMPA), triethylamine(TEA), 2-hydroxy ethyl acrylate (HEA), and dibutyl tin dilaurate (DBT) as a catalyst. 2,2-dimethoxy-2-phenyl acetophenone(DMPAP) was used as a photoinitiator. The films of UV-cured polyurethane acylate ionomer were prepared by casting the formulated materials onto a glass plate at room temperature and cured using a medium pressure mercury lamp (80 W/cm, max = 365nm). Effects of DMPA content, molecular weight of PTMG and degree of neutralization on the properties were invesigated. It is found that the storage modulus increased with increasing DMPA content. The glass transition temperature of sample A shifted to higher temperature as the content of DMPA was increased. Tensile modulus also increased with increasing DMPA content. Modulus and Tg decreased with increasing molecular weight of PTMG form 650 to 2000. With increasing the degree of nutralizaion, ionomers exhibited improved modulu.

In this study, different types of polyether amines and H12MDI were used to synthesize water dispersed urea resins, which can be applied to coating material on the concrete slabs for bicycle road using the ordinary application equipments. The concentrations of several polyether amines with different molecular weights and the number of amine functionality were varied to set up the optimal condition for water dispersed urea resin preparation with both an excellent tensile strength and an elongation. In addition, the effect of DMPA[2,2-Bis(hydroxymethyl)propanoic acid] concentration on the storage stability of the water dispersed urea resin was also investigated. The formation of urea bonds from isocyanate and polyether amines was confirmed through FT-IR ATR spectroscopy. From the mechanical properties of urea resins, PU-4 and PU-6, which were prepared with both diamines and triamine of different molecular weights and number of functionality, showed the tensile strength of 10.5 N/㎟ and 12.7 N/㎟, respectively and the elongation of 1165 % and 969%, respectively. Among the water dispersed urea resin synthesized with different contents of DMPA, PU-6 showed the highest mechanical properties, a tensile strength of 14.2 N/㎟ and an elongation of 993%. In addition, the water dispersion state of this PU-6 was the most stable even after 8 weeks.
UDs were synthesized from two different polyols(PTMG, PBEAG), ionic chain extender(DMPA), EDA with $H_{12}-MDI$. PU/PMMA hybrids were prepared with free radical polymerization of MMA monomer in MMA-swelled PUD. PUD particle size and film properties were investigated ionic content and polyol type. Mechanical and thermal properties of PU/PMMA hybrid film were studied in terms of PU's ionic content and the venation of PU/PMMA compositions. As DMPA content increased from 2wt% to 10wt% in PUD, particle size of PUD decreased. PUD's particle size with ester type polyol was found to be smaller then ether type polyol used. Phase separation between hard segment(HS) and soft segment(SS) with ionic contents in PU was shown by the thermal, mechanical property measurement. Although the composition of MMA was changed from 0 to 40 wt% in PU/PMMA hybrid, the particle size of the hybrid did not increase. Using the ester type polyol, tensile strength of hybrid was found to increase by 2wt% - 6wt% DPMA content, but as higher content the strength of hybrid decreased. Moreover with the ether type polyol, tensile strength of hybrid was observed to increase by 2wt% - 4wt% DMPA content, while decreasing at higher content. PU and PMMA polymer molecule being mixed in molecular level was confirmed from the pattern of $T_g$ in DSC thermogram.
Waterborne polyurethane (WBPU) adhesive with varying amounts of dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA) was synthesized by prepolymer process and blended with polyisocyanate hardener. The mean particle size of the WBPU dispersion decreased with increasing DMPA content. $^1H$ NMR spectroscopy confirmed the formation of allophanate bonds and biuret bonds due to the reaction of hardener NCO with urethane/urea groups. The optimum NCO content with the greatest adhesive strength was dependent on the total content of urethane/urea groups in the WBPU molecules. The optimum NCO content increased with increasing number of urethane groups (DMPA content). The adhesion strength of WBPU adhesives was maximized at a molar ratio of hardener NCO to urethane/urea of about 0.28.
