Analysis and measurement of service area of ocean-based DGPS reference station in Korea (국내 해상 DGPS 기준국의 서비스 영역 측정 및 분석)

  • Based on the radio wave measurement of korean ocean-based DGPS by season, in this paper, the service coverages of ocean-based DGPS reference stations were analyzed according to the climate and season. The signal strengths and signal-to-noise ratios in the land service areas that are provided by ocean-based DGPS reference stations were measured. The ocean-based DGPS reference station except reference stations on the mountainous terrain and the low ground conductivity provide more than 68% service area in comparison with the designed land service coverage providing by the ocean-based DGPS reference stations. To provide the designed service area that is unrelated to a season, it is necessary to install and operate the DGPS reference station with good ground conductivity and high efficiency antenna. Also, the poor service regions which is generated by obstacles of electric wave on pathway can be resolved by the double service area providing by land-based DGPS reference stations.

Service analysis and propagation measurement for DGPS land-based reference station in Korea (국내 DGPS 내륙 기준국 전파 측정 및 서비스 분석)

  • Based on the radio wave propagation measurement of DGPS land-based reference stations, the DGPS service coverage and signal quality in the receiving points are analyzed in this paper. The DGPS signal strength and SNR in the receiving point are measured in the winter and summer season, respectively. In case of DGPS reference station that can not provide the designed service coverage, the solution to improve the service coverage is presented in this paper. Almost all DGPS reference station except reference station with low ground conductivity or mountainous terrain provide the DGPS service coverages of 80% or more of the designed service area. The service coverages of DGPS reference stations can be improved to pre-designed service area in case of installation management of DGPS site on the plain terrain and good ground conductivity. It is necessary to get the high efficiency of transmitting antenna to improve the service area.

DGPS service analysis in the korean coastal ferry route (국내 연안 여객선 항로에서의 DGPS 서비스 분석)

  • Based on the DGPS radio wave measurement in the coast of the yellow-sea, south-sea and east-sea, the DGPS service regions in the korean coastal ferry route are analyzed in this paper. The impact of obstacles on the propagation due to the archipelago and island regions are measured and analyzed in the point of service region. The ocean-based DGPS reference stations provide the wide DGPS ocean service regions with signal strength more than $40dB{\mu}V/m$ and signal-to-noise ratio more than 10 dB. Based on the overlapping of the service regions between the DGPS reference stations, the DGPS services with good quality are provided in the coastal ferry route segments. In case of regions where the propagation obstacles are scattered, the increasingly good service can be provided under conditions of output power reinforcement and antenna efficiency enhancement.

  • The DGPS systems that is a GPS augmentation system were installed for ocean- and land-service. The ocean-based reference station of 11 site and the land-based reference station of 6 sites are operating for ocean- and land-service. Although the land-based reference stations provide the output power of 500W, the service shadow regions are occurred due to mountain lands and building area. In this paper, the service coverages for land-based reference stations are analyzed in conditions of output power enhancements of reference station. The service shadow areas are deduced from service coverages of land-based reference stations and ocean-based reference stations. The medium frequency-band wave propagation models are considered as DGPS wave propagation model. The service coverages are analyzed by considering the compensated ground surface-conductivity.

  • The stability of DGPS signal in the DGPS service area was measured and the service availability according to the receiving signal strength was analyzed in this paper. Based on the effects of radio wave propagation in the seasons of winter and summer, daytime and night, the method to provide the DGPS service coverage was presented in this paper. The signal's strength of DGPS radio wave were measured at a constant distance from the DGPS reference station during a constant period. The propagation of DGPS radio wave is affected by status of ground conductivity, so the DGPS service area is dependant on the ground conductivity. To provide the stable service coverage, it is necessary to apply the adaptive power control for receiving signal's variations and the antenna design for alleviation of high elevation's radiation.

  • Korean NDGPS, which consists of the ocean-based reference station of 11 site and the land-based reference station of 6 sites, are operating. The land-based reference stations provide the output power of 500W, the service shadow regions are occurred due to mountains and nation topography. In this paper, the service coverages of land-based reference stations are analyzed in the viewpoint of output power enhancements of land-based reference stations within 1KW. Also, we suggest virtual land DGPS reference stations 2 sites to resolve the service shadow regions.

  • 다른 응용분야에 비하여 소략적인 성능을 요구했던 해양 분야에서도 최근들어 항만 영역에 따라 수치적으로 구체화된 성능을 요구하고 있고, 측위 정확도뿐만 아니라 무결성, 연속성, 가용성 면에서도 보장을 요구하고 있다. 현 DGPS 기준국의 서비스를 사용하는 사용자 입장에서, DGPS 서비스는 아직 IMO에서 요구하는 성능을 모두 만족시키기에 불충분하다. 특히, HEA 영역에서 요구하는 측위 정확도 수준은 만족하나 무결성 측면에서는 성능을 보장할 수 없다. 본 논문에서는 기존 DGPS 기준국의 감시, 보장, 공지 기능을 강화하여 무결성 측면에서 보강하기 위한 향상된 감시 기법을 제안하고자 한다. 이를 위하여 현재 DGPS 서비스 감시 기능의 취약점을 제시하고 이에 대한 영향을 분석하였으며 이를 토대로 대책을 마련하였다. 본 연구결과는 추후 DGPS 서비스 개선을 위한 기초연구로 활용할 수 있을 것이다.

Analysis of Radio Interference for Korean NDGPS Reference Station using Medium Frequency Band (중파대역을 사용하는 국내 NDGPS 기준국의 전파 간섭 분석)

  • The Korean DGPS station transmits the 200 bps GPS enhancement signal using the MSK modulation in frequency range of 283.5 kHz to 325 kHz. The land-based stations of 6 sites provide the service area of 80 km with the output power of 500 W. The ocean-based stations of 11 sites provide the output power of 300 W, which provide the DGPS service to 185 kM. Some places are serviced from two or three DGPS stations. The interferences among the DGPS stations using the high power can be occurred. Also, the performances of the user terminasl in dual service area can be degraded. In this paper, the protection ratios for the DGPS service are defined. Using the MF wave propagation model, the interferences among the DGPS stations and the adjacent wireless ground stations are analyzed. Also, the performances of DGPS user terminals are analyzed in the viewpoint of interference.

  • Even in the marine industry was required the looser positioning performance as compared to other application domain, a high-quality positioning performance and reliability are becoming ever more important. The high-quality performance includes not only accuracy but also integrity, continuity, and availability. However, current DGPS service is not satisfying the minimum positioning performance requirements for maritime user proposed by IMO. Especially, no one can guarantee the required integrity performance by DGPS service. This paper presents the advanced monitoring concept to strengthen the performance of current DGPS through the enhanced monitoring, guarantee and notice functions. To this, the limitations of the integrity monitoring function of current DGPS are analyzed, and a countermeasure is prepared to improve the limitations of the current integrity monitoring function. This paper can be applied as basis research to improvement of the DGPS service.

  • 현 시점 우리나라는 1999년부터 해안 DGPS(Differential Global Positioning System) 기준국을 기반으로 하여 2009년까지 해안기준국(11곳), 내륙기준국(6곳)으로 전국 17개소의 DGPS 기준국을 설치 및 운용하고 있으며, 전국적으로 DGPS 서비스를 해상 및 육상에서도 다양한 분야에 걸쳐 실시간으로 서비스가 진행되고 있다. 그러나, 우리나라의 지형상 산악지형이나 여러 가지 요인에 의한 서비스 음영지역이 발생하고 있는 실정이다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 실측데이터를 이용하여 내륙기준국에서의 지점경로 전파분석을 통하여 기준국 안테나 파라미터를 알아보고 서비스 음영지역 도출 및 나타나는 음영지역 해소 방안으로 안테나 효율 및 기준국의 송신 출력을 검토하여 그에 대한 방안을 모색하고자 한다.
