Recently, the sandwich injection molding has drawn attention because it offers the flexibility of using the optimal properties of two different but compatible polymers and is also one of the most p romising methods in connection with recycling of thermoplastics. In this paper, a new particle tracing algorithm is presented in order to describe the advancement of core polymer melt during filling stage. The main advantage of this algorithm is the use of identity field information rather than tracking a set of fluid particles. In addition, to model the process accurately, especially to detect the possible
The objective of this research is to propose a new global damage detection parameter, termed as the static defect energy (SDE). This candidate parameter possesses the ability to detect, locate and quantify structural damage. To have a full understanding about this parameter and its applications, the scope of work can be divided into several tasks: theory and formulation, numerical simulation studies, experimental verification and feasibility studies. This paper only deals with the first part of the task. Brief introduction will be given to the dynamic defect energy (DDE) after systematically reviewing the previous works. Process of applying the perturbation method to the oscillatory system to obtain a static expression will be followed. Two implementation methods can be used to obtain SDE equations and the diagrams. Both results are equally good for damage detection.

The Vibration signals of a gear driving system is often associated with gear tooth faults. Many studies have been done on the detection of impulsive vibration signals, which characterize the breaka ge of a gear tooth. Also, most of the studies on gear fault diagnosis are only about the fault existence at one gear-pair. This study concerns on the several possible faults of a geared motor that has three gear pairs. The measurement and analysis on the vibration signals of a running geared motor shows the relationship between the gear faults and the vibration signals. This study also shows that adaptive interference canceling technique can be appropriately applicable to detect which gear-pair has the fault, and that wavelet is better than spectrogram to figure out the gear fault.
This paper presents a method to detect buildings using shadow information in satellite imagery. We classify image into three categories of building region, shadow region and background region to find buildings with consistent intensity. After the removal of noises in building regions and shadow regions, buildings adjacent to shadow regions are detected using the constraint of building and shadow sizes. The algorithm has been applied to KOMPSAT and SPOT images and the result showed buildings are efficiently detected.

DDoS attack is a malicious attempt to exhaust resources of target system and network capacities using lots of distributed zombi systems. DDoS attack introduced in early 2000 has being evolved over time and presented in a various form of attacks. This paper proposes a scheme to detect DDoS attacks and to reduce possibility of such attacks that are especially based on vulnerabilities presented by using control packets of existing network protocols. To cope with DDoS attacks, the proposed scheme utilizes a buffer management techniques commonly used for congestion control in Internet. Our scheme is not intended to detect DDoS attacks perfectly but to minimize possibility of overloading of internal system and to mitigate possibility of attacks by discarding control packets at the time of detecting DDoS attacks. In addition, the detection module of our scheme can adapt dynamically to instantly increasing traffic unlike previously proposed schemes.
Studies for counting and detecting X-rays for the improvement of image quality and material analysis are active. In this work, the detector for X-ray photon counting was designed using Multi-pixel photon counter (MPPC) array and the detector characteristics were evaluated through simulation. Geant4 Application for Tomographic Emission (GATE) was used to obtain the position where the X-ray and the scintillation interacted, and this position was used as the light generation position of DETECT2000. 0.5 mm and 1 mm thick Gadolinium Aluminium Gallium Garnet (GAGG) scintillators were used and the light generated through a $4{\times}4$ array of MPPCs was acquired. The spatial resolution of the designed detector was evaluated by reconstructed image using the light signal acquired for each channel. We obtained images of more than 2 lp/mm in both 0.5 mm and 1 mm thick GAGG scintillation. When this detector is used in a X-ray system, a low-cost system capable of photon counting can be made.
This study was performed to compare the analytical results among L2000DX and two GC/ECD methods (rapid and conventional). 15 samples of transformer oils were collected to compare the analytical results. In the analytical results of PCBs-containing transformer oil, the PCBs concentrations were in the range of 4.4 mg/L to 182.8 mg/L with L2000DX, N.D. to 14.63 mg/L with conventional GC/ECD, and N.D. to 13.03 mg/L using rapid GC/ECD. The PCB concentrations detected with the L2000DX showed a large difference to those detected with GC/ECD methods. Otherwise, little difference was shown between the two GC/ECD methods at a concentration range lower than 4 mg/L, although the rapid GC/ECD method tended to detect a slightly lower concentration near the regulation criteria of Korea for 2 mg/L.

It is very difficult to mechanize tomato harvesting because identifying a tomato partly covered with leaves and stalks is not easy. This research was conducted to develop tomato harvesting robot which can identify a target tomato, determine its three dimensional position, and harvest it in a limited time. Followings were major findings in this study. The first visual system of the harvesting robot was composed of two CCD cameras, however, this could not detect tomatoes which are not seen on the view finder of the camera especially those partly covered by leaves or stalks. The second visual device, combined with two CCD cameras and pan/tilt procedures was designed to minimize the positioning errors within ${\pm}10mm$, but this is still not enough to detect tomatoes partly covered with leaves etc. Finally, laser distance detector was added to the visual system that could reduce the position detecting errors within 10mm in X-Y direction and 5mm in Z direction for the partly covered tomatoes.

In this paper, we show that one can enhance the performance of blind segmentation of phoneme boundaries by adopting the knowledge of Korean syllabic structure and the regions of voiced/unvoiced sounds. eh proposed method consists of three processes : the process to extract candidate phoneme boundaries, the process to detect boundaries of voiced/unvoiced sounds, and the process to select final phoneme boundaries. The candidate phoneme boudaries are extracted by clustering method based on similarity between two adjacent clusters. The employed similarity measure in this a process is the ratio of the probability density of adjacent clusters. To detect he boundaries of voiced/unvoiced sounds, we first compute the power density spectrum of speech signal in 0∼400 Hz frequency band. Then the points where this paper density spectrum variation is greater than the threshold are chosen as the boundaries of voiced/unvoiced sounds. The final phoneme boundaries consist of all the candidate phoneme boundaries in voiced region and limited number of candidate phoneme boundaries in unvoiced region. The experimental result showed about 40% decrease of insertion rate compared to the blind segmentation method we adopted.
The paper proposes a hybrid fire fighting control intelligent system(H-FFIS) using rules and cases to detect fire in Integrated Platform Management System. By far most conventional systems have been based on rule-based system in which expert knowledges are expressed with production rules. It is hard to express the knowledges to detect fire with production rules only. The knowledges of fire detection are often based on previously encountered situations of fires. For improvement of system capability renewing and adding of rules is needed in an already build-up system and such adding and renewing procedures could hinder users from fluent utilization of the system. We design and implement H-FFIS. Compared with rule-based FFIS(Fire Fighting control Intelligent System), H-FFIS extended with case-based reasoning shows that the system proposed here can lead to an improvement in fire detection rate.
