During the past 2 decades, radiation tumorigenesis researchers have focused on cellular and molecular mechanisms. We reviewed some of these research fields, since they may specifically relate to the induction of cancer by ionizing radiation. First, radiation-mediated mutation was discussed. Then the initiating event in radiation carcinogenesis, as well as other genetic events that may by involved, is discussed in terms of the possible role of the activation of genes and the loss of cell-cycle checkpoints.

The detection and the regulation of man-made synthetic chemicals and the establishment of toxicity that may pose a genetic hazard in our environment are subjects of great concern because of its close correlation between environmental contamination and human health. Since the tens of thousands of man-made chemicals that have been introduced into the environment in the last few decades must also be tested for their damaging effect on DNA, the agents that cause this damage must be identified.

Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) has been considered the most successful development in radiation oncology since the introduction of computed tomography into treatment planning that enabled three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy in 1980s. More than three decades have passed since the concept of inverse planning was first introduced in 1982, and IMRT has become the most important and common modality in radiation therapy. This review will present developments in inverse IMRT treatment planning and IMRT delivery using multileaf collimators, along with the associated key concepts. Other relevant issues and future perspectives are also presented.

We have experienced 18 abdominal aortic aneurysms between March,1987 and June,1994.Unruptured patients were 11 cases and ruptured were 7.The fifth[33.4% ,sixth[27.7% and seventh[27.7% decades were most common age distributions.Sex ratio was 2.6:1[m:f .The most frequent symptoms were abdominal or back pain and palpable pulsating mass.Sixteen patients underwent resection and graft replacement.One patient refused operation.Atherosclerosis was the underlying pathology in 76%.Two ruptured patients died postoperative[28.5% .The frequency of postoperative complication was higher in the ruptured group.

Over the last decades, interest in the application of decision support systems(DSS) in organizations has increased rapidly. Desipte the growing number of investigations examining decision support system, relatively few empirical studies have evaluated the effects of DSS on problem-solving processes. This study examined, using a computer simulation technique, the effect of recursion in problem-solving processes about the problem-solving time. Results indicate that the recursion at the early stage of problem-solving processes scarcely influenced the problem-solving time, which is contrasted with the case of the recursion at the final stage.

European Material Test Reactors (MTRs) have provided essential support for nuclear power programs over the last 40 years. MTRs are now ageing in Europe and they cannot ensure the securing of experimental capability for the next decades. In this context, a new Material Testing Reactor, named Jules Horowitz Reactor -JHR-, operated as an international user-facility, is under development in Europe. The European MTRs context and the JHR objectives and status will be presented. Emphasis will be put on experiments in the field of nuclear fuels and materials irradiation which are developed in the framework of European and international collaboration.

In the last two decades, many researchers proposed various usages of the orthogonal functions such as Walsh, Haar and BPF to solve the system analysis, optimal control, and identification problems from and algebraic form. In this paper, a simple procedure to design and algerbraic observer for the descriptor system is presented by using block pulse function expansions. The main characteristic of this technique is that it converts differential observer equation into an algerbraic equation. And furthermore, a simple recursive algorithm is proposed to obtain BPFs coefficients of the observer equation.

Long-term tide-gauge data from around the Korean Peninsula were reanalyzed. Both the coastal water and the open sea surrounding the Korean Peninsula appeared to have been influenced by global warming. The long-term change in relative sea levels obtained from tidal stations showed a general rising trend, especially near Jeju Island. It is proposed that global warming may have caused shifting of the path of the Kuroshio branch (Tsushima Warm Current) toward Jeju Island, causing a persistent increase in the water levels along the coast of the island over the last few decades.

Multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) have become one kind of the most widely used electrical components in recent decades. And the technology of MLCCs is developing continuously towards a direction of high capacitance and miniaturization. While the tiny thickness and the large quantity of the layers often make it very troublesome to do analysis with the full model MLCCs. In order to solve this problem, reduced model with fewer layers of MLCC was designed and verified in this paper.
