In order to assess applicability of debris flow simulation on natural terrain in Korea, this study introduced the DEBRIS-2D program which had been developed by Liu and Huang (2006). For simulation of large debris flows composed of fine and coarse materials, DEBRIS-2D was developed using the constitutive relation proposed by Julien and Lan (1991). Based on the theory of DEBRIS-2D, this study selected a valley where a large debris flow was occurred on July 16th, 2006 at Deoksanri, Inje county, Korea. The simulation results show that all mass were already flowed into the stream at 10 minutes after starting. In 10minutes, the debris flow reached the first geological turn and an open area, resulting in slow velocity and changing its flow direction. After that, debris flow started accelerating again and it reached the village after 40 minutes. The maximum velocity is rather low between 1 m/sec and 2 m/sec. This is the reason why debris flow took 50 minutes to reach the village. The depth change of debris flow shows enormous effect of the valley shape. The simulated result is very similar to what happened in the field. It means that DEBRIS-2D program can be applied to the geologic and topographic conditions in Korea without large modification of analysis algorithm. However, it is necessary to determine optimal reference values of Korean geologic and topographic properties for more reliable simulation of debris flows.

This study demonstrates the applicability of the FLO-2D for the influence analysis of the debris flow on expressway. To do this, the behavior of debris flow on the expressway was reproduced by applying the FLO-2D to actual generated debris flow. The study area is a part of the Deokyusan Service Area on the Daejon-Jinju Expressway, where traffic was blocked for 24 hours due to the debris flow in August 2005. Geographical analysis with GIS, hydrological analysis with HEC-HMS, and estimation of the amount of debris flow were carried out using field survey and soil property test data. Then, the optimum parameter combination of FLO-2D was selected through the parameter sensitivity analysis, and the behavior analysis of debris flow on expressway was applied. The comparison of the predictions with the observations shows the availability of FLO-2D for the behavior analysis of debris flow on the expressway.
With the increase in frequency of typhoons and heavy rains following the climate change, the scale of damage from the calamities in the mountainous areas has been growing larger and larger, which is different from the past. For the case of Korea where 64% of land is consisted of the mountainous areas, establishment of the check dams has been drastically increased after 2000 in order to reduce the damages from the debris flow. However, due to the lack of data on scale, location and kind of check dams established for reducing the damages in debris flow, the measures to prevent damages based on experience and subjective basis have to be relied on. Under this study, the high-precision DEM data was structured by using the terrestrial LiDAR in the Jecheon area where the debris flow damage occurred in July 2009. And, from the numerical models of the debris flow, Kanako-2D that is available to reflect the erosion and deposition action was applied to install the erosion control facilities (water channel, check dam) and analyzed the effect of reducing the debris flow shown in the downstream. After installing the erosion control facilities, most of debris flow moves along the water channel to reduce the area to expand the debris flow, and after installing the check dam, the flow depth and flux of the debris flow were reduced along with the erosion. However, as a result of analyzing the diffusion area, flow depth, erosion and deposition volume of the debris flow generated from the deposition part after modifying the location of the check dams with the damages occurring on private residences and agricultural land located on the upstream area, the highest reduction effect was shown when the check dam is installed in the maximal discharge points.

As sudden rainfall has happened, the debris flow has occurred in the mountain area. Recently sudden rainfall occurred so frequently caused by abnormal climate. Thus debris flow hazard had consecutively increased damage because of debris flow. Recently, Enormous damage due to debris flow have occurred in Korea. Various studies have been conducted to prevent search debris flow hazard. This study was carried out for debris flow behavior according to the land slope on propagation. It is the important one among factors that are related to the propagation over the city with respect to debris flow discharge and depth. For the numerical simulations in this study, the land slope was varied of 5, 0, $-5^{\circ}$ to investigate the debris flow behavior with the FLO-2D, often recommended by FEMA to simulate debris flow. To verify the performance of FLO-2D, comparison with the USGS experiments (Iverson et al, 2010) was conducted. From numerical results the propagation length of the debris flow was found the most sensitive one. Maximum of debris flow thickness and velocity and structural vulnerabilities were investigated to the effect of land slope. They was became smaller according to land slope of 5, -5, $0^{\circ}$ in the order. As a result, debris flow behavior analysis about the effect of the land slope could contribute to understand the vulnerability of city for debris flow hazards.

Recently, mountain disasters such as landslides and debris flows have flowed along mountain streams and hit residential areas and roads, increasing damage. In this study, in order to reduce damage and analyze causes of mountain disasters, field surveys and Terrestrial LiDAR terrain analysis were conducted targeting debris flow areas, and debris flow flow processes were simulated using FLO-2D and RAMM models, which are numerical models of debris flows. In addition, the debris flow deposition area was calculated and compared and analyzed with the actual occurrence section. The sedimentation area of the debris flow generation section of the LiDAR scan data was estimated to be approximately 21,336 ㎡, and was analyzed to be 20,425 ㎡ in the FLO-2D simulation and 19,275 ㎡ in the case of the RAMMS model. The constructed topographical data can be used as basic data to secure the safety of disaster risk areas.

This study conducted an evaluation of the extent of debris flow damage using SINMAP, which is slope stability analysis software based on the infinite slope stability method, and FLO-2D, a hydraulic debris flow analysis program. Mt. Majeok located in Chuncheon city in the Gangwon province was selected as the study area to compare the study results with an actual 2011 case. The stability of the slope was evaluated using a DEM of $1{\times}1m$ resolution based on the LiDAR survey method, and the initiation points of the debris flow were estimated by analyzing the overlaps with the drainage network, based on watershed analysis. In addition, the study used measured data from the actual case in the simulation instead of existing empirical equations to obtain simulation results with high reliability. The simulation results for the impact of the debris flow showed a 2.2-29.6% difference from the measured data. The results suggest that the extent of damage can be effectively estimated if the parameter setting for the models and the debris flow initiation point estimation are based on measured data. It is expected that the evaluation method of this study can be used in the future as a useful hazard mapping technique among GIS-based risk mapping techniques.
Most of the landslides induced by rainfall in summer rainy season appear in the type of debris flow. Debris flow gives a lot of economic losses and human casualties due to high moving velocity and volume of debris flow. In order to analyze movement and deposition characteristics of debris flow, numerical analysis using FLO-2D program was conducted with various viscosities and yield stresses. As a result of numerical analysis, velocity and runout distance of debris flow decreased as its viscosity increased due to resisting force between particles of debris flow. Consequently, flow depth of debris flow increased and impact force decreased. Yield stress of debris flow affected its initiation and deposition characteristics. As yield stress increased, runout distance of debris flow decreased and its impact force increased. Based on the results of numerical analysis, it was found that velocity of debris flow mainly depended on viscosity, while deposition characteristics (runout distance, deposition width, deposition area) of debris flow depended on both viscosity and yield stress.

Occurrences of debris flow are a serious danger to roads and residential located in mountainous areas and cause a lot of property loss. In this study, two basins were selected and spatial data were constructed to simulate the occurred debris flow from mountainous areas. The first basin was to use the Terrestrial LiDAR to scan the debris flow occurrence section and to build terrain data. For the second basin, use drones the sediment in the basin was photographed and DSM (Digital surface model) was generated. And to analyze the effect of the occurrence of debris flow on downstream side, FLO-2D, two-dimensional commercial model, was used to simulate the flow region of the debris flow. And it was compared with the sedimentation area of terrestrial LiDAR and drone measurement data.

This study selected the national park area of Mt. Seorak in Inje-gun, Gangwon-do, where a lot of debris flow occurred due to the heavy rainfall and conducted a field survey. In addition, topographic spatial data were constructed using the GIS technique to analyze watershed characteristics. For the construction of terrain data after the disaster, the debris flow occurrence section was scanned and the 3D topographic data was constructed using the terrestrial LiDAR. LiDAR terrain data are compared to digital maps(before disaster) to assess precision and topographic data before and after the disaster were compared and analyzed. Debris flow diffusion area was calculated using FLO-2D model and compared debris flow occurred section.
In August 2020, a debris flow occurred in Gokseon, Jeollanam-do, that resulted in the death of five residents. In this study area, high-resolution 0.03 m topographic information was generated through photogrammetry, and the amount of soil movement/loss was measured. In addition, sensitivity analysis was performed for flow depth, flow velocity, and debris flow area with the program Flo-2D using the difference in simulation parameter that discharge and topographic information. Wth increasing debris flow input discharge, increases were seen in flow depth, flow velocity, and debris flow area, as ell as in the gap in results from high-resolution topographic information and low-resolution topographic information. Also, when high-resolution topographic information was used, the results were similar to the actual (measured) flow direction of the debris flow. Therefore, the application of high-resolution topographic information increases the accuracy of the debris flow analysis results compared with low-resolution information. Results could be further imporved in the future by considering geological information such as yield stress and viscosity.
