Manufacturing process for autonomic microcapsules was introduced and autonomic microcapsules were manufactured by varying with various manufacturing process variables. Urea-formaldehyde resin was used for the wall of microcapsules and DCPD (dicyclopentadiene) was used for the self-healing agent. The characteristics of these microcapsules was evaluated through a particle size analyaer, an optical microscope, and a TGA. The various manufacturing process variables, such as pH and agitation speed of the emulsified solution, were considered to focus in this study. According to the results, the particle size distributions were affected on the agitation speed of the emulsified solution, and the thermal stability was influenced by pH of the emulsified solution.
This study focused on the introduction of the self healing technique for polymeric composites and evaluated the healing efficiency by the use of the interlaminar toughness fracture test. The DCPD (dicyclopentadiene) and ENB (5-ethylidene-2-norbornene) were used for the healing agent and the Grubbs' catalyst was used for the catalyst. According to the results, healing efficiency was found to be 37.9%, 22.3%, 26.3%, 22.8%, 30.8%, 30.8%, 33.0%, 33.4% for mode II fraction of 0%, 20%, 35%, 50%, 65%, 80%, 90%, 100%, respectively.
The integrity of laser welded structures is decided in fracture strength and fatigue strength. This study made an effort to understand the fracture behavior considering residual stress. Experiments are conducted and analyses are performed to explore the influence of residual stress on fracture behavior of bead-on laser welded compact specimen. Fracture experiments are performed using ASTM 1820. The performed analyses included thermo-elasto-plastic analyses for residual stress and subsequent J-integral calculation. A modified J integral is calculated in the presence of residual stresses. The J-integral is path-independent for combination of residual stress field and stress due to mechanical loading. The results indicates that the tensile residual stress near crack front bring the low fracture load while the compressive residual stress bring the high fracture load compared to no residual stress specimen. These results quantitatively understand the influence of residual stress on fracture behavior.
Dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD)를 2% HPMC 및 35% PAA와 각각 1:1의 분액비로 30초간 섞은 후 cone and plate geometry를 가지는 rheometer를 사용하여 frequency sweep test와 time sweep test를 통해 shear storage modulus (G'), shear loss modulus (G''), 그리고 complex viscosity (${\eta}^*$)를 측정하였다. 2% HPMC군과 35% PAA군의 complex viscostiy의 차이를 Mann-whitney test with Bonferroni's collection을 사용하여 분석하였다.
The structural and leakage integrity of steam generator tubes should be sustained against all postulated loads even if a crack is present. During the past three decades, most of the efforts with respect to integrity evaluation of steam generator tubes have been focused on limit load solutions but, recently, the applicability of elastic-plastic fracture mechanics was examined cautiously due to its effectiveness. The purpose of this paper is to introduce a testing method to estimate fracture resistance characteristics of steam generator tubes with a through-wall crack. Due to limited thickness and diameter, inevitably, the steam generator tubes themselves were tested instead of standard specimen or alternative ones. Also, a series of three dimensional elastic-plastic finite element analyses were carried out to derive closed-form estimation equations with respect to J-integral and crack extension for direct current potential drop method. Since the effectiveness of $J_{IC}$ as well as J-R curves was proven through comparison with those of standard specimens taken from pipes, it is believed that the proposed scheme can be utilized as an efficient tool for integrity evaluation of cracked steam generator tubes.
In this report, stress corrosion cracking generation due to pipe material degradation in the primary stage of the nuclear power plant was investigated. Firstly, after artificially degrading the CF8A steel during 2, 4, and 6 months in actual temperature, $400^{\circ}C,$ assessed corrosion susceptibility of the degraded material following ASTM G5 standard. And next, the S.C.C. tests for the degraded material were conducted under the condition of $60^{\circ}C,$ 2wt.% H2BO3+Li70H solution, 0.8 oy. From the results, Corrosion rates linearly increased with degradation period and solution temperature increase. And both the raw material and the degraded materials were not failed in the S.C.C. test condition. In spite of long time test (about 3,900 hrs) under S.C.C. condition, surface pits or surface corrosion by the electro chemical reaction were not observed. And also, even though the nondestructive DCPD and ACPD methods were applied to on-line monitor the S.C.C. failure processes it was impossible because the surface pits and cracks were not generated.
A way to measure the second parameter $A_2$of CT specimens is described. The displacement $\delta$$_{5}$ which is measured continuously from visual images of the lateral surface during crack growth is used to calculate the A, as a function of crack growth. The crack length is measured by DCPD(Direct Current Potential Drop) method and the J-resistance curve is determined according to ASTM standard E1737-96. To prove the validity of this method, three dimensional finite element analyses were performed, and variations of the displacements $\delta$$_{5}$ and $A_2$along the thickness were explored. As the result, it has been shown that the $\delta$$_{5}$ measured from the visual images of the lateral surface and the corresponding $A_2$can be regarded as the average through the thickness for 1T and 1/2T specimens of SA106Gr.C steel.steel.
