  • Background: The craniocervical flexion test (CCFT) was developed for the activation and endurance of deep cervical flexors. However, the muscle thickness and muscle thickness changing ratio of the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) and deep cervical flexor (DCF) muscles in subjects with and without forward head posture (FHP) have not been reported. Objects: To determine the difference in thickness of the SCM and DCF muscles and the difference in the muscle thickness changing ratio between SCM, DCF, and DCF/SCM 20 mmHg and DCF/SCM 30 mmHg between subjects with and without FHP. Methods: Thirty subjects with and without FHP were enrolled. The muscle thickness of the SCM and DCF was measured when maintained at a baseline pressure of 20 mmHg and a maximum pressure of 30 mmHg using a pressure biofeedback unit during the CCFT. Ultrasonography was used to capture images of SCM and DCF muscle thickness during the CCFT, which was calculated using the picture archiving and communication system (PACS). Results: We observed a significant difference within the pressure main effect between SCM and DCF at a baseline pressure of 20 mmHg and a maximum pressure of 30 mmHg (p < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference in the muscle thickness and muscle thickness changing ratio for SCM and DCF during CCFT between subjects with and without FHP. Conclusion: There was no significant difference in the muscle thickness recruitment pattern during CCFT in posture changes between subjects with and without FHP.

  • The distributed coordination function (DCF) and point coordination function (PCF) protocols are the basic MAC protocols for legacy IEEE 802.11, IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11e, IEEE 802.11g and IEEE 802.11n wireless LANs. When the DCF protocol is used for the various versions of IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs, the MAC performance seriously degrades due to the collisions among the stations (STAs) as more and more STAs attempt to transmit their data frames. On the other hand, the PCF MAC performance becomes poor when many STAs exist in IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs, however, only small number of STAs actually attempt to transmit their data frames. In this paper, we propose the algorithm for improving the MAC performance by selectively using the DCF and PCF protocols according to the state of IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs. Numerical examples are presented to show the MAC performance improvement by the selective use of the DCF and PCF protocols according to the network state.

  • The effects of dispersion coefficient of dispersion compensating fiber (DCF) and residual dispersion per span (RDPS) on in the dispersion managed optical links for compensating the distorted 960 Gbps wavelength division multiplexd (WDM) signals due to group velocity dispersion (GVD) and optical nonlinear effects of single mode fiber (SMF) are investigated. It is confirmed that optimal net residual dispersion (NRD), which greatly affects compensating for optical signals, should be induced under the large launch power condition, irrelevant on the considered dispersion coefficient of DCF and RDPS. It is also confirmed that system performances are greatly improved by selecting the very small RDPS and very large dispersion coefficient of DCF.

  • The lack of QoS (Quality of Service) support functionalities in IEEE 802.11 DCF mode makes it difficult to provide real-time multimedia services in WLANs. In this paper, we propose an effective available bandwidth measurement method in IEEE 802.11b DCF environments. The proposed method measures the total channel idle time and the collision probability during each measurement period. Then, the available bandwidth is calculated by considering those measured information and the transmission overheads at MAC and PRY layers. The performances of the proposed method are evaluated using OPNET simulator. The simulation results show that the proposed method provides more exact results than existing comparable schemes.

  • The gyro sensor that made by MEMS process is generated an accumulated error(drift) and escape the zero angle following during calculation of rotate angle. This study propose BACF(Boot Angle Compensation Filter) algorithm for prevent escape zero angle and DCF algorithm for remove accumulated error. DCF algorithm is designed for acquire accurate turn of ratio by remove offset and noise components. BACF algorithm is obtained average offset that removed noise components by recursively calculate. Experimental environment, two-axis gyro sensor and mobile OIS camera mounted control board and 5Hz oscillation of ${\pm}0.5^{\circ}$ for the experiments were carried out. BACF and DCF algorithm is applied and the resulting accumulated error did not occur and exactly zero angle following results were made.

  • There are two coordination functions in IEEE 802.11 standard. One is PCF, polling based function, and the other is DCF, contention based function. DCF is simpler than PCF but the performance is similar with the latter. That's the reason why DCF is more popular than PCF. However, DCF has a risk of collision with other nodes in the network because the function is a distributed contention based one. CSMA/CA of DCF has collision avoidance algorithm in it, but the performance of avoidance algorithm has limitations. In this paper we proposed a new scheme called TAR(Tone-based Access scheme with Repetitive conention). In TAR, there is narrow contention-only channel other than original data transmitting channel, so that both a data transmission and the contention can be performed simultaneously. The TAR uses the same contention concept with the CSMA/CA, but it has the originality for the narrow contention channel and the repetitive contention scheme which greatly reduce the collision probability. We proved the performance of TAR by some simulations, and it showed good results.

  • In this paper, we propose a performance improving MAC algerian for the IEEE 802.11 DCF. WLAN based IEEE 802.11 uses two control methods called 'Distributed Coordination Function(UF)' and 'Point Coordination Function(PCF)'. The nF controls the Urnsmission based on carrier sense multiple access with collision detection(CSMA/CA), that decides a random backoff time with the range of contention window for each terminal. Normally, each terminal the CW double after collision, and reduces the CW to the minimum after successful transmission. This paper proposes an enhanced DCF algorithm that decreases the CW smoothly after successful transmission in order to reduce the collision Probability by utilizing the current status information of WLAN. We also analyze the throughput and delay performance for the unsaturated case mathematically. Simulation results show that our algorithm enhances the saturation throughput of WLAN. They also coincide well with the analytical results.

  • This paper proposes a transmission interval which includes collisions and retransmissions in the IEEE 802.11 DCF. The transmission probability is used for the calculation of collisions and retransmissions in the DCF. Since the noises are considered to analyze the transmission interval, retransmissions by the noises are included in the proposed transmission interval. The proposed transmission interval takes account of the retransmissions by packet errors, and makes it possible to analyze the maximum throughput of the DCF.

  • The DCF (Dcistributed Coordination Function) and PCF (Point Coordination Function) are the basic MAC (Medium Access Control) protocols of IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs. According to the DCF, each node performs the exponential backoff algorithm before the transmission of its data frame. Each node doubles the backoff waiting time before the transmission of its data frame whenever it detects the transmission collision with other nodes. Therefore, as the number of the active nodes having the data frames to transmit increases, the overall MAC performance of the DCF decreases. On the other hand, according to the PCF, each node is granted the transmission opportunity by which the PCF transmission is possible without the collision with other nodes. Therefore, as the number of the active nodes increases, the MAC performance of the PCF increases, In this paper, considering the tradeoff of MAC performance between the DCF and PCF, a hybrid MAC protocol is proposed to enhance the performance of IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs.
