This paper proposes a new grid-tied power converter for battery energy storage, which is composed of a 2-stage DC-DC converter and a PWM inverter. The 2-stage DC-DC converter is composed of an LLC resonant converter connected in cascade with a 2-quadrant hybrid-switching chopper. The LLC resonant converter operates in constant duty ratio, while the 2-quadrant hybrid-switching chopper operates in variable duty ratio for voltage regulation. The operation of proposed system was verified through computer simulations. Based on computer simulations, a hardware prototype was built and tested to confirm the technical feasibility of proposed system. The proposed system could have relatively higher efficiency and smaller size than the existing system.
This paper proposes a single power-conversion ac-dc converter with a dc-link capacitor-less and high power factor. The proposed converter is derived by integrating a full-bridge diode rectifier and a series-resonant active-clamp dc-dc converter. To obtain a high power factor without a power factor correction circuit, this paper proposes a suitable control algorithm for the proposed converter. The proposed converter provides single power-conversion by using the proposed control algorithm for both power factor correction and output control. Also, the active-clamp circuit clamps the surge voltage of switches and recycles the energy stored in the leakage inductance of the transformer. Moreover, it provides zero-voltage turn-on switching of the switches. Also, a series-resonant circuit of the output-voltage doubler removes the reverse-recovery problem of the output diodes. The proposed converter provides maximum power factor of 0.995 and maximum efficiency of 95.1% at the full-load. The operation principle of the converter is analyzed and verified. Experimental results for a 400W ac-dc converter at a constant switching frequency of 50kHz are obtained to show the performance of the proposed converter.
An active resonance damper for a DC Distributed Power System(DPS) with parallel loads is presented. Each pulse power load in a DC DPS comprises both a resistive power load and a step-up converter. The step-up converter behave as constant power load(CPL) when tightly regulated and usually cause a negative impedance instability problem. Furthermore, when an input filter is connected to a large constant power load, the instability of DC bus voltage. In this paper, a bidirectional DC/DC converter with a reduced storage capacitor quantitatively are proposed as a active resonance damper, to mitigate the voltage instability on the bus. The validity of the proposed method was confirmed by simulation and experimental works.
The dc reactor type high-Tc superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL) is composed of three parts, a power converter, a magnetic core reactor(MCR) and a dc reactor. This study concerned with the power converter of the DC reactor type high-Tc SFCL. The rectifying devices which power converter of 6.6kV/200A SFCL consists of have to endure high voltage. We propose the dual mode power converter to reduce the voltage which each rectifying device endures. In the single phase the experiment and simulation of dual mode power converter and the simulation of power converter with one bridge rectifier are performed. The current of each system with different power converter has a same tendency and the voltage which rectifying device of dual mode power converter endures is reduced in half by comparison with that of power converter with one bridge rectifier. We found dual mode power converter can be applied to SFCL.
This paper presents a novel high frequency transformer linked full-bridge type soft-switching phase-shift PWM control scheme DC-DC power converter, which can be used as power conditioner fur small-scale fuel cell power generation system. Using full-bridge soft-switching DC-DC converter topology makes possible to use low voltage high performance MOSFETs to achieve high efficiency of the power conditioner. A tapped inductor filter is implemented in the proposed soft-switching converter topology to achieve soft-switching PWM constant high frequency operation for a wide load variation range. to minimize circulating and idling currents without using additional resonant circuit and auxiliary power switching devices. The practical effectiveness of the proposed soft-switching DC-DC converter is verified in laboratory level experiment with 1 kW 100kHz breadboard setup using power MOSFETs. Actual efficiency of 94-96$\%$ is obtained for the wide load range

In this paper, we design and fabricate the high-efficiency and low-power switched-capacitor DC-DC converter. This converter consists of internal oscillator, output driver and output switches. The internal oscillator has 100kHz oscillation frequency and the output switches composed of one pMOS transistor and three nMOS transistors. According to the configuration of two external capacitors, the converter has three functions that are the Inverter, Doubler and Divider. The proposed converter is fabricated through the 0.8$\mu\textrm{m}$ 2-poly, 2-metal CMOS process. The simulation and experimental result for fabricated IC show that the proposed converter has the voltage conversion efficiency of 98% and power efficiency more than 95%.
This paper presents a high-efficiency power conditioning system (PCS) for grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) modules. The proposed PCS consists of a step-up DC-DC converter and a single-phase DC-AC inverter for the grid-connected PV modules. A soft-switching step-up DC-DC converter is proposed to generate a high DC-link voltage from the low PV module voltage with a high-efficiency. A DC-link voltage controller is presented for constant DC-link voltage regulation. A half-bridge inverter is used for the single-phase DC-AC inverter for grid connection. A grid current controller is suggested to supply PV electrical power to the power grid with a unity power factor. Experimental results are obtained from a 180 W grid-connected PV module system using the proposed PCS. The proposed PCS achieves a high power efficiency of 93.0 % with an unity power factor for a 60 Hz / 120 Vrms AC power grid.
In this paper, new topology is proposed that can dramatically reduce the converter power rating and increase the efficiency of total PV system. Since the output voltage of PV module has very wide voltage range, in general, the DC/DC converter is used to get constant high DC voltage. According to analysis of PV characteristics, in proposed topology, only 20% power of total PV system power is needed for DC/DC converter. DC/DC converter used in proposed topology has flat efficiency curve at all load range and very high efficiency characteristics. The total system efficiency is the product of that of converter and that of inverter. In proposed topology, because the converter efficiency curve is flat all load range, the total system efficiency at the low power range is dramatically improved. The proposed topology is implemented for 200kW PCS system. This system has only three DC/DC converters with 20kW power rating each other. It is only one-third of total system power. The experiment results show that the proposed topology has good performance.
This paper deal with a CRM control method of DC-DC converter of increase its performance. It allows high speed switching in critical current region when driving converter to improve efficiency of converter. The validity of the theory is verified by the comparison of the simulation results proposed between method and conventional method.
