  • In this paper, a design of the sliding mode controller using neural networks is proposed. The overall control system consists of a neural network controller and a reaching mode control input. The neural network controller approximates the equivalent control on the sliding surface and reaching mode control input is used to bend the entire system trajectories toward the sliding surface. The proposed controller is applied to the position control of a DC servo motor.

  • In recent years, research to machine large-surface micro-features has become important because of the light guide panel of a large-scale liquid crystal display and the bipolar plate of a high-capacity proton exchange membrane fuel cell. In this study, in order to realize the systematic design technology and performance improvements of an ultra-precision machine for machining the large-surface micro-features, a structural characteristic analysis was performed using its virtual prototype. The prototype consisted of gantry-type frame, hydrostatic feed mechanisms, linear motors, brushless DC servo motor, counterbalance mechanism, and so on. The loop stiffness was estimated from the relative displacement between the tool post and C-axis table, which was caused by a cutting force. Especially, the causes of structural stiffness deterioration were identified through the structural deformation analysis of sub-models.

  • The real time unmanned monitoring system of an equipment's internal parts and condition requires the monitoring device to be able to stop at a set location on the rail. However, due to the slip between the driving surface and the roller, an error occurs between the actual position and the command position. In this paper, a method to compensate the position error due to the roller slip is proposed. A proximity sensor located at both ends of the rail detects the starting point and the maximum position pulse, linearly compensating the error between the angular position of the motor and the mechanically fixed starting and maximum position pulse of the rail in forward and reverse direction. Moreover, unlike the existing servo position controller, the motor adopts the position detection method of Hall sensor in BLDC (Brushless DC) and applies an algorithm for low-speed driving so that a stable position control is possible. The proposed rail guided unmanned monitoring system with driving slip compensator was tested to verify the effectiveness.

  • In order to improve the speed performance of the direct drive mechanical systems, a comprehensive analysis of the velocity ripples of blushless DC motors should be required. Every motor has a certain level of torque ripples when it generates power, and the generated torque ripple also makes the velocity ripples in the final output stage in speed control system. In this paper, a novel algorithm for reducing velocity ripples is proposed based on the modeling of torque ripples for BLDC motors. Various algorithms have been made for torque ripples, but usually they should be installed inside the amplifier logic, result in the difficulties of flexibility for various kinds of torque ripples. The proposed algorithm was developed for being ported in the controller not the amplifier, and it has the capability of the automatic compensation adjustment. The performance of the proposed algorithm was verified by effective simulations and experiments.

  • Recently, Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(PMSM) drives are widely used for industrial applications due to its high efficiency and high power factor control strategy. PMSM generally have two classifications such as the SPMSM(Surface Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors) and IPMSM(Inter Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors). IPMSA has economical merits over SPMSM in higher speed range, mechanical robustness, and higher power rate by the geometric difference. The maximum torque operation in IPMSM is realized by the current angle control which is to utilize additional reluctance torque due to a rotor saliency. In traction, spindle and compressor drives, constant power operation with higher speed range are desirable. This is simply achieved in the DC motor drives by the reduction of the field current as the speed is increased. However, in the PMSM, direct control of the magnet flux is not available. The airgap flux can be weakened by the appropriate current angle control to demagnetize. In this paper, the control method of optimal current vector in IPMSM is described in order to obtain the maximum torque or maximum output with the speed and load variations. The applied algorithm is realized by the proto system with torque and speed control Experimental results show this approach is satisfied for the high performance servo applications. • The errors generated from current measurement paths are inevitable, and they can be divided into two categories: offset error and scaling error. The current data including these errors cause periodic speed ripples which are one and two times the stator electrical frequency respectively. Since these undesirable ripples bring about harmful influences to motor driving systems, a compensation algorithm must be introduced to the control algorithm of the motor drive. In this paper, a new compensation algorithm is proposed. The signal of the integrator output of the d-axis current regulator is chosen and processed to compensate for the current measurement errors. Usually the d-axis current command is zero or constant to acquire the maximum torque or unity power factor in the ac drive system, and the output of the d-axis current regulator is nearly zero or constant as well. If the stator currents include the offset and scaling errors, the respective motor speed produces a ripple related to one and two times the stator electrical frequency, and the signal of the integrator output of the d-axis current regulator also produces the ripple as the motor speed does. The compensation of the current measurement errors is easily implemented to smooth the signal of the integrator output of the d-axis current regulator by subtracting the DC offset value or rescaling the gain of the hall sensor. Therefore, the proposed algorithm has several features: the robustness in the variation of the mechanical parameters, the application of the steady and transient state, the ease of implementation, and less computation time. The MATLAB simulation and experimental results are shown in order to verify the validity of the proposed current compensating algorithm.

  • Brushless DC(BLDC) motors are widely used as AC servo motors in factory automation fields because of their quick instantaneous mobility, good energy saving efficiency and easiness of design for control system comparing with induction motors. Recently, a Two-Degree-of-Freedom(2DOF) PI control law has been adopted to some application parts to accomplish an advanced speed control of BLDC motors. The method can treat the two conflicting performances, minimum tracking errors versus reference inputs without large overshoot and rejection of some disturbances including modeling errors, independently. However, the method can not design the optimal system which is able to minimize tracking errors and energy consumption simultaneously. In this paper, a 2DOF integral type optimal servo control method is investigated to promote the speed control performances of BLDC motors considering energy consumption. In order to applicate the method to the speed servo system of the BLDC motor, the motor is modeled in the state space using the vector control and decoupling technique. To verify the validity of the suggested method, some simulations and experiments are performed.

  • In the control actuator system of a launch vehicle based on thrust vectoring, the interaction between electro-mechanical position servo and inertial load are combined with the dynamic characteristics of the flexible vehicle support to generate synthetic resonance. This occurred resonance is fed back to the attitude control system and can influence stability of launch vehicle. In this study, we proposed a simulation model to analyze synthetic resonance of electro-mechanical actuation system for thrust vector control and explained the results of simulation and test using dynamic force feedback control which improves dynamic characteristics of servo actuation system by reducing synthetic resonance.
