A new noncoherent detection algorithm for DBO-CSS (새로운 DBO-CSS 수신기 구조)

  • In this paper, we propose a new decoding method for differentially biorthogonal chirp spread spectrum (DBO-CSS). In DBO-CSS, the information is carried on the differential phase not between the adjacent sub-chirp symbols but between the sub-chirp symbols in the same position of adjacent full-chirp symbol. So, the conventional multiple symbol differential detection (MSDD) algorithms to enhance the BER performance can not be applied to the DBO-CSS directly. In this paper, we propose a new differential detection algorithm based on a partial MSD(multiple symbol detection) and a viterbi algorithm. It is shown that the performance gain of the proposed algorithm when compared with that of the conventional detection algorithm is around 2.5dB at BER = 10-5.

  • Differential detection algorithm for DBO-CSS based on maximum signal energy detection (MSED) using viterbi algorithm is proposed. In order to mitigate SNR degradation caused by differential decoding, a modified viterbi algorithm with so called correlation metric (CM) in every state is proposed. It is shown that the performance gain of the proposed algorithm when compared with that of the conventional differential detection with the block decoding algorithm is about 2.5dB at BER = $10^{-5}$.

  • In this paper, we propose a dual-band filtering method optimized to DBO-CSS systems which are alternatively transmitted in low and high bands. The conventional channel filter which passes entire signal bandwidth causes a problem that excessive noise in neighboring sub-band is added while one of signals in two sub-bands is received. The dual-band filtering proposed in this paper can overcome the performance degradation in the conventional filtering method without increase of hardware complexity. The proposed method is based on two filters to be matched with DBO-CSS signals receiving alternatively and can exclude the undesired noise in neighboring sub-band. Simulation results for the proposed method show better performance about 2.5dB than the conventional one.

  • In this paper, we propose a new frequency offset estimation algorithm for DBO-CSS which is a standard for wireless personal area network (WPAN). In DBO-CSS, there can be several integer multiples of $2{\pi}$ in the phase rotation caused by the frequency offset because of the long time difference between the samples of differential relation and the high permissible frequency offset of the crystal oscillators between the transmitter and the receiver. In this paper, we propose an estimation algorithm by using the relationships of each sub-chirp signals to find the integer part without phase ambiguity.

  • As the research of wireless personal area network (WPAN) is more activated, various communication systems operating on 2.4Ghz are being developed. Systems such as Bluetooth, 802.11b, Zigbee and DBO-CSS are operating on 2.4Ghz. In addition to these communication systems, microwave oven resides in 2.4Ghz, so co-existance between each of these communication systems and microwave Oven is considered important factor of system performance. The effect of microwave oven on these communication systems is so critical that these systems are recommended to avoid the impact of microwave oven by allocation of different channel. In this paper, based on the DBO-CSS operating on 2.4Ghz, we propose a new algorithm of reducing the effect of microwave oven to develop robust communication system against microwave oven.

  • IEEE 802.15.4a에서는 첩(Chirp)신호을 이용한 UWB(Ultra Wide Band) 시스템으로서 DBO(Differential Bi-Orthogonal)-CSS(Chirp Spread Spectrum) 기술을 선택적 표준안으로 정하였다. 기존 DBO-CSS에서는 다중 피코넷 간섭(MPI; Multiple Piconets Interference)을 피하기 위하여 각 피코넷 별로 Different Time-Gap을 할당하고 있다 하지만 완벽한 직교성이 존재하지 않는다는 특성을 가지고 있어서 간섭의 영향에 민감할 수 밖에 없고, 무선통신시스템의 성능 저하를 야기시킨다. 본 논문에서는 각 피코넷 별로 보다 완전한 직교성을 확보하기 위하여, 확산코드기법을 적용한 CSS 변복조 알고리즘을 제안하고, 또한 일정한 시간 구간동안 연속적인 직교특성을 가지는 이진 ZCD(Zero Correlation Duration) 코드를 사용하여 BER(Bit Error Rate) 성능 분석을 통해 SOP(Simultaneously Operating Piconets) 환경에서 다중 피코넷 간섭 등의 영향을 효과적으로 제거함을 확인하였다.

  • In this paper, we consider an efficient protocol for the multi-hop relay transmission on a sensor network which can be utilized in a ubiquitous environment. More specifically, we propose an efficient relaying protocol for the distance and position recognition on the proposed sensor network which performs with the differentially bi-orthogonal chirp spread spectrum (DBO-CSS) in the industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) bands. For an efficient networking access, we design and implement four different packet structures, zone information packet, hop information packet, tag information packet, and application serial packet. Additionally, we also propose an efficient position recognition algorithm. Finally, for verification of our proposed protocol's efficiency, we build the testbed system which consists of $15m{\times}15m$ multi-cell and 10 hops in the network.
