제주먹초파리에서 난황 단백질 합성에 미치는 20-Hydroxyecdysone의 영향 (Effect of 20-Hydroxyecdysone on Yolk Protein Synthesis in Drosophila sp. (robusta Species Group))

  • 20-hydroxvecdysone (20-HE) seems to be related in the regulation of vitellogenesis in Drosophifa sp. (robwta species sroup). Although yolk proteins (YPs) synthesis does not occur at a high rate in fat body cells of one daw-old female after eclosion, application of 20-HE to isolated abdomens deprived of anterior endocrine glands stimulated the synthesis and secretion of YPs into the hemolvmph. An injection of 0.3 $\mul$ of a 10-s M 20-HE was sufficient topromote synthesis and secretion of YPs in isolated abdomens. The response of isolated automens to hormones was first detected between 2 hr and 3 hr after treaDent of 10-s M 20-HE. Transcript analysis showed that the effect of 20-HE on yolk protein synthesis was mediated at the level of transcription.

Product Consistency Test(PCT)와 Vapor Hydration Test(VHT)를 이용한 모의 방사성폐기물 유리고화체의 화학적 내구성 평가 (Evaluation of Chemical Durability of Vitrified Forms for Simulated Radioactive Waste Using Product Consistency Test(PCT) and Vapor Hydration Test(VHT))

  • 저방사성폐수지, 제올라이트, 가연성잡고체 혼합폐기물을 유리화하기 위해서 AG8W1 후보 유리와 가연성잡고체 단독으로 유리화하기 위하여 DG-2 후보유리가 개발되었다. 두 후보유리의 화학적 내구성을 평가하기 위하여 PCT와 VHT 침출시험이 수행되었다. 7일 PCT 침출시험 수행결과 AG8W1과 DG-2의 주요 원소별 침출률은 기준유리(benchmark glass SRL-EA) 보다 낮게 나타남을 알 수 있었고 미국 Hanford 유리고화체 규제치 $2g/m^2$ 보다 낮은 결과를 나타냄을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 120일 동안의 시험에서도 주요 원소인 B, Na, Si, Li가 SRL-EA 보다 낮게 나타남을 볼 수 있었다. VHT 침출시험 수행결과 AG8W1, DG-2의 침출률(leach rate)은 각각 $2g/m^2/day$, $10g/m^2/day$ 로써 미국 Hanford 규제치 $ 50g/m^2/day$ 보다 낮은 결과를 나타냈다. 결과적으로 유리화 시설 상용운전 시 사용예정인 이들 후보유리들의 침출은 안정화되어 있었으며 화학적 내구성이 우수함을 알 수 있었다.

  • According to the literature surrey, we summarized the treatment and prescription for Su-Cheon(水喘), Hwa-Cheon(火喘) and Cardiac Asthma as follows. 1. The aim of treatment for Su-cheam(水喘) is I-Su-Hwa-Daw(利水火痰), Pynng-Cheon-Ick-Qi(平喘益氣) and Mokbangki-tang(木防己湯), Jungryuk daejosapye-tang(亭曆大棗瀉肺湯) Socheong ryong-tang(小靑龍湯), Gagamshinki-hwan(加減腎氣丸) and Shinbi-tang(神秘湯) are often used. 2. The sim of treatment for Hwa-Chean(火喘) is Cheong-Kuem-Kwang-Hwa(淸金降火祛痰) and Backho-tang(白虎湯) and Dodamtang-gamibang(導痰湯加味方) are useful. 3. In Oriental medicine, Sangmak-Sun(生脈散) and Sambutang-gamibang(參附湯加味方) for Ink-Qi-Ryum-Eum(益氣斂陰) and On-Yang-I-Su-Qi(溫湯利水化氣) are often used for cardiac asthma. 4. As the treatment for Su-Cheon(水喘), Hwa-Cheon(火喘), and cardiac asthma are Similar to, it is supposed to be need of careful differential diagnosis and treatment.

Studies on the Physico-chemical Properties of Mixed Radioactive Waste Glass

  • In order to vitrify the W1 waste (ion-exchange resin(IER), zeolite, and dry active waste(DAW)) generated from Korean Nuclear Power Plants, a glass formulation development based on waste compositions and production rates was performed. A aluminoborosilicate glass, AG8W1, was formulated to vitrify the W1 waste in an induction cold crucible melter(CCM). The processability, product performance, and economics of the candidate glass were calculated using a computer code and were measured experimentally in the laboratory and CCM. The glass viscosity and electrical conductivity as the process parameters were in the desired ranges. Start-up and maintaining glass melt of the candidate glass were favorable in the CCM. The product quality of the glass such as chemical durability, phase stability, etc. was satisfactory. The vitrification process using the candidate glass was also evaluated to be operated as economically as possible.

Energetics of adsorptions on fcc(111) and binary system; An application of the modified embedded atom method

  • The embedded atom method (EAM) of Daw and Baskes as a semiempirical method, has been successfully applied to the fcc or nearly filled d-band transition metals due to its computational feasibility and its methodological simplicity. Then Baskes modified the EAM (MEAM) to include directional bonding and applied it to metals, semiconductors, and diatomic gases, all of which have different types of bondings. Here, we present a detailed study of the energetics of adsorption on the fcc(111) surfaces and binary system within the framework of MEAM. In adsorption on fcc(111) surfaces, there are two energetically favored sites, so called, fcc site and hcp site, which may trigger stacking fault in the growth of films and might switch growth mode between 3D growth and layer by layer growth. We scrutinized the role of the hcp sites, which would offer dynamic growth pathways although the dynamics are not yet clear within the limited experimental resolution. Featuring these transient motions in the atomic level should contribute to the understanding the growth mechanisms on fcc(111) surface. And we also applied MEAM for initial stage energetics at the Cr coverage of sub- monolayer on W(110). We hope that recently observed extraordinary growth behavior at the Cr coverage of 0.7 monolayer, self- organized nano-scale lines, can be resolved in this MEAM binary system calculation.

금속의 특성 및 금속수소화물의 팽창에 관한 수치해석 (Numerical Study on Properties of Metals and Expansion of Metal Hydrides)

  • Numerical analysis, as EAM(Embedded Atom Method), in the atomic level is necessary to analyze the relation between the hydrogen and hydrogen absorption metals. EAM established on density functional theory was developed as a new means for calculating various properties and phenomena of realistic metal systems. In this study, we had constructed the EAM program from constitutive formulae and parameters of the hydrogen, nickel and palladium for the purpose of predicting the expansion behavior on hydrogen absorbing. In result, not only the ground state properties of metals but also lattice constants and the volume expansion ratio of metal hydrides show good agreement with Daw's data and experiment data.

흰쥐 시상하부의 정중융기에서 카테콜아민 신경세포와 GnRH 신경세포와의 연접에 관한 연구 (Catecholaminergic Innervation of GnRH Neurons in the Rat Median Eminence)

  • The present study was carried out 1) to show the ontogenic development of CA-and GnRH-containing nerve fobres in the median eminence, 2) to simultaneously demonstrate the synaptic contact between these two nenre fibres in the rat median eminence at the ultrastructural level using light and electron microscopic doublelabel immunostainlngs. GnRH-and CA-nenre terminals were detectable in the median eminence at embryonic day 19.5. The CA-newe terminals were obsenred in the entire legion of the extern31 lavers, while GnRH-newe terminals only in the lateral portion. At the 14th postnatal daw, both %ropes of nerve terminals showed a very similar distribution to those of adult one. In the median eminence of adult rats, a substantial overlap existed in the distribution of GnRH fibres with CA-containing nerve fibres. This overlap was most intense throughout the external palisade zone. Furthermore, an electron microscopic double label immunostaining showed that there was a close apposition of CA- and GnRH-nenre fobres. These axo-axonic contacts occurred frequently in the internal and palisade zones, i.e. at the level of the fobre preterminals. These morphological results suggest that the CA-mediated GnRH secretion may occur via sxo-axonic interaction in the median eminence.

계배 간충직세포 분화과정에서의 Protein Kinase C Isoform들의 변화 (Isoforms of Protei,n Kinase C during the Differentiation of Chick Limb Mesenchvme)

  • The present studies were undertaken to examine the activitites of PKC isoforms in cultures of chick limb mesenchvme. Micromass cultures were prepared using wing buds of stage 23/24 (Hamburger and Hamilton, 19511 chick embryo. The cells were homogenized and DEAE-cellulose column chromatography was performed to get fraction containing protein kinase C (PKC) activity. PKC isoforms were resolved with hvdroxyapatitie column chromatography. Profile of PKC isoforms of cultures were compared with that of rat brain. Activity of $PKC-\beta$ isoform was appeared at the early stage of chondrogenesis. On 3 daw of culture, activities of both PKC a and $\beta$ were observed with remarkable increase but no activity of y isoform was appeared. Treatment of phorbol-12-mvristate-13-acetate (PMA) (10-7 M) to the culture inhibited chondrosenesis and down-regulated a and $\beta$ isoforms. Staurosporine promoted chondro!genesis without any effect on PKC isioforms profile. These data indicate that PKC a and $\beta,$ especiallv $\beta$ isoform is related to chondrosenesis and the promoting effect of staurosporine on chondrogenesis is not related to PKC isoforms activities.

A Study on the Long-Term Integrity of Polymer Concrete for High Integrity Containers

  • During the operation of a nuclear power plant (NPP), the generation of radioactive waste, including dry active waste (DAW), concentrates, spent resin, and filters, mandates the implementation of appropriate disposal methods to adhere to Korea's waste acceptance criteria (WAC). In this context, this study investigates the potential use of polymer concrete (PC) as a high-integrity container (HIC) material for solidifying and packaging these waste materials. PC is a versatile composite material comprising binding polymers, aggregates, and additives, known for its exceptional strength and chemical stability. A comprehensive analysis of PC's long-term integrity was conducted in this study. First, its compressive strength, which is crucial for ensuring the structural stability of HICs over extended periods, was evaluated. Subsequently, the resilience of PC was tested under various stress conditions, including biological, radiological, thermal, and chemical stressors. The findings of this study indicate that PC exhibits remarkable long-term properties, demonstrating exceptional stability even when subjected to diverse stressors. The results therefore underscore the potential viability of PC as a reliable material for constructing high-integrity containers, thus contributing to the safe and sustainable management of radioactive waste in NPPs.

쥐의 척수강 내로 투여한 고려 홍삼의 항통각효과에 대한 아드레날린성 및 콜린성 수용체 역할 (The Role of Adrenergic and Cholinergic Receptors on the Antinociception of Korean Red Ginseng in the Spinal Cord of Rats)

  • Background: Experimental evidence indicates that ginseng modulate the nociceptive transmission. Authors examined the role of adrenergic and cholinergic receptors on the antinociceptive action of Korean red ginseng against the formalin-induced pain at the spinal level. Methods: Catheters were inserted into the intrathecal space of male Sprague-DawIey rats. Fifty ${\mu}l$ of 5% formalin solution was injected to the hindpaw for induction of pain and formalin-induced pain (flinching response) was observed. The role of spinal adrenergic and cholinergic receptors on the effect of Korean red ginseng was assessed by antagonists (Prazosin, yohimbine, atropine and mecamylamine). Results: Intrathecal Korean red ginseng produced a dose-dependent suppression of the flinching response in the rat formalin test. All of prazosin, yohimbine, atropine and mecamylamine antagonized the antinociception of Korean red ginseng. Conclusions: Spinal Korean red ginseng is effective against acute pain and facilitated pain state evoked by formalin injection. All of alpha 1, alpha 2, muscarinic and nicotinic receptors may play an important role in the antinociceptive action of Korean red ginseng at the spinal level.
