Detection of Human Cytomegalovirus UL97 D605E Mutation in Korean Stem Cell Transplantation Recipients and Donors

  • Ganciclovir resistance of human cytomegalovirus is associated with mutations in the viral UL97 gene and poses severe problems for immunocompromised patients. In this study, PCR-based restriction fragment length polymorphism and sequencing analyses detected the UL97 D605E mutation in all five clinical isolates from patients with ganciclovir-resistant human cytomegalovirus infection during prolonged ganciclovir therapy, whereas the M460V mutation was only present in 1 of 5 isolates. On the other hand, the detection rates of the D605E mutation in the stored available DNA samples from the donor and allogeneic stem cell transplantation recipients were 66.7% and 93.7%, respectively, suggesting that the presence of D605E mutation was not associated with the ganciclovir exposure. Although the D605E mutation may not be related to ganciclovir resistance, we suggest that this mutation could be an important molecular marker of human cytomegalovirus evolution in East Asian countries. Moreover, the restriction fragment length polymorphism method using the restriction enzyme HaeIII, which is generally used to detect the UL97 A591V mutation, could also detect the D605E mutation and may therefore be a useful tool for future research on the investigation of UL97 gene mutations.

  • This study aims to compare the ease of men's slim pants patterns, and to analyze the fit and appearance through the 3D virtual garment system. The study selected four educational materials and one industrial pattern of slim pants for a total of five items. The CLO 3D Modelist program was utilized to carry out the appearance evaluation through virtual wearing and opacity, and a comparison was performed regarding the clothing pressure when the virtual model was standing and walking. The results of our comparison of the patternmaking for slim pants showed that pattern C pants had the greatest ease on the waist circumference, while B pants showed no ease. The C and E pants also had the most ease on the hip measurement. In the appearance evaluation, A pants received the most favorable results, followed by D, E, B, and C, in descending order. The clothing pressure appeared to be mainly red on the waist, crotch, and hem when standing in all pants, so the clothing pressure was high. While walking, the stress appeared to be different for the left and right parts of the body, and the most significant difference was observed on the thigh area.

Nutrient Requirements of Exercising Swamp Buffalo, Bubalus bubalis, from Materials Balance and In Vivo Body Composition by the Body Density Method. I. Aspects of Energy and Protein Metabolism in Working Cows

  • Four young swamp buffalo cows of similar age ranging in weight between 280 to 380 kg and trained to do physical work were used in a study to determine energy and protein requirements for draught using a $4{\times}4$ Latin square designed experiment. The experiment consisted of field trials employing 4 levels of work load, e.g. no work as control, and loads amounting 450 to 500 Newton (N) pulled continuously for 1, 2 and 3 h daily for 14 consecutive days. Cows were fed king grass (Penisetum purpuroides) ad libitum and were subjected to materials balance trials. Body composition was estimated in vivo by the body density method and daily energy expenditure (EE) was calculated from ME minus retained energy (RE). The results show that EE while not working ($EE_{resting}$) was $0.42kgW^{0.75}MJ/d$ and maintenance ME ($ME_m$) was $0.37kgW^{0.75}MJ/d$. ME requirement increased to 1.65 times maintenance for the work of 3 hours. The energy expended for doing exercise ($E_{exercise}$) was 9.56, 20.0 and 25.86 MJ/cow for treatments 1, 2 and 3 II, respectively. Fat retention was absent in all groups of working cows, but protein retention was only negative for cows undertaking 3 h work. The relationship between $E_{exercise}$ (MJ), work load (F, kN), work duration (t, h) and body mass (W, kg) was found to be: $E_{exercise}=(0.003F^{1.43}t^{0.93})/W^{0.09}MJ$. The maintenance requirement for digestible protein was $2.51kgW^{0.75}g/d$, whereas digestible protein for growth ($DP_{growth}$) and for work ($DP_{work}$) followed the equations: $DP_{growth}=[(258+1.25W^{0.75}){\Delta}Wkg/d]g$ and $DP_{work}=[12.59e^{0.95t}]g$, respectively The coefficients a, b and c for the calculation of $E_{exercise}$ components according to the Lawrence equation were found to be 2.56 J/kgW.m, 5.2 J/kg load carried.m and 0.29, respectively, thus efficiencies to convert ME into work were 0, 16.09, 27.3 and 32.44% for control, 1, 2 and 3 h/d work, respectively. ME and DP requirements for a 250 to 400 kg working buffalo cow allowing to growth up to 0.5 kg/d are presented.

  • XML 데이터 검객을 위한 표준 질의 언어로서 XQuery와 XPath가 W3C에 의해 표준으로 제정되었다. XQuery와 XPath를 보편적으로 사용함에 따라, 최근 연구는 방대한 XML 데이터베이스에서 XPath 경고 표현식에 대한 효율적인 질의 처리를 위한 데이터 구조 및 알고리즘 개발에 초점을 두고 있다. 최근에, XPath 경로 표현식을 처리할 때 XML 엘리먼트 사이의 구조적 관계(조상-자손, 부모-자식)를 결정하는 구조적 조인의 개념은 중요한 XPath 프로세싱 기법중의 하나가 되었다. 그러나 XPath 질의 처리에서 자주 발생하는 구조적 조인들은 높은 비용을 요구한다. 본 논문에서, 우리는 XPath 질의들을 효율적으로 처리하기 위해 제안한 구조적 인덱스(SI) 기반의 새로운 구조적 조인 알고리즘(SISJ)을 제안한다. 실험 결과에서는 이전의 알고리즘보다 근소하게 더 효율적인 성능을 보여 준다. 그러나 재귀성이 높은 문서에 대해서는 제안기법의 가지치기 특성으로 인해 약 30% 이상의 성능향상을 보였다.

사과박 첨가 볏짚 사일리지가 한국 재래산양의 사료 섭취량과 소화율에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Addition of Apple Pomace to Rice Straw Silage on Feed Intake and Digestibility of Korean Native Goats)

  • 본 실험에서는 볏짚에 사과박의 첨가비율을 달리하여 조제한 사일리지(볏짚:사과박 = 100:0, 80:20, 60:40, 40:60) 혹은 옥수수 사일리지에 건초 및 시판사료의 혼합 비율을 각각 40:40:20로 조제하여 한국 재래산양에게 급여하였고, 이들에 의한 사료섭취량, 소화율 및 질소 축적율 등을 조사하여 농산 가공 부산물의 사료화 가능성을 제시하고자 실시하였으며 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 시험사료의 화학적 조성분은 조단백질 함량이 6.3∼7.3%이었고 ADF, NDF 및 조회분 함량은 볏짚 혼합비율이 100%(A구)가 각각 39.4, 61.6 및 8.9%로 가장 높았으며 옥수수 사일리지 급여구(E구)가 30.3, 53.4 및 4.9%로 가장 낮은 경향을 보였으나, NSC 함량은 E구가 31.4%로 가장 높았다. 1일 두당 건물섭취량 및 대사체중 당 건물 섭취량은 사과박 혼합 비율이 가장 많은 D구가 각각 605.3과 69.5g으로 옥수수 사일리지 급여구인 E구의 394.0과 46.8g보다 유의하게 높았다.(p<0.05). 일당 증체량은 사과박 혼합비율이 40(C구)과 60%(D구)에서 각각 16.7과 22.9g으로 사과박 혼합비율이 0(A구)과 20%(B구)의 0.17과 4.3g보다 유의하게 높았다(p<0.05). 건물 및 유기물 소화율은 D와 E구가 A와 B구 보다 유의하게 높았으며 ADF와 NDF 소화율도 D구가 각각 50.2와 57.4%로 A, B 및 E구 보다 유의하게 높았다(p<0.05). 질소 축적량과 축적율은 사과박 혼합 비율이 가장 높은 D구가 각각 1.4g과 20.4%로 가장 높았으며 A구가 -0.3g과 -7.75%로 가장 낮았다.

Numerical simulation of compressive to tensile load conversion for determining the tensile strength of ultra-high performance concrete

  • In this study, the experimental tests for the direct tensile strength measurement of Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) were numerically modeled by using the discrete element method (circle type element) and Finite Element Method (FEM). The experimental tests used for the laboratory tensile strength measurement is the Compressive-to-Tensile Load Conversion (CTLC) device. In this paper, the failure process including the cracks initiation, propagation and coalescence studied and then the direct tensile strength of the UHPC specimens measured by the novel apparatus i.e., CTLC device. For this purpose, the UHPC member (each containing a central hole) prepared, and situated in the CTLC device which in turn placed in the universal testing machine. The direct tensile strength of the member is measured due to the direct tensile stress which is applied to this specimen by the CTLC device. This novel device transferring the applied compressive load to that of the tensile during the testing process. The UHPC beam specimen of size 150 × 60 × 190 mm and internal hole of 75 × 60 mm was used in this study. The rate of the applied compressive load to CTLC device through the universal testing machine was 0.02 MPa/s. The direct tensile strength of UHPC was found using a new formula based on the present analyses. The numerical simulation given in this study gives the tensile strength and failure behavior of the UHPC very close to those obtained experimentally by the CTLC device implemented in the universal testing machine. The percent variation between experimental results and numerical results was found as nearly 2%. PFC2D simulations of the direct tensile strength measuring specimen and ABAQUS simulation of the tested CTLC specimens both demonstrate the validity and capability of the proposed testing procedure for the direct tensile strength measurement of UHPC specimens.

Performance analysis of Savonius Rotor for Wave Energy Conversion using CFD

  • A general purpose viscous flow solver Ansys CFX is used to study a Savonius type wave energy converter in a 3D numerical viscous wave tank. This paper presents the results of a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis of the effect of blade configuration on the performance of 3 bladed Savonius rotors for wave energy extraction. A piston-type wave generator was incorporated in the computational domain to generate the desired incident waves. A complete OWC system with a 3-bladed Savonius rotor was modeled in a three dimensional numerical wave tank and the hydrodynamic conversion efficiency was estimated. The flow over the rotors is assumed to be two-dimensional (2D), viscous, turbulent and unsteady. The CFX code is used with a solver of the coupled conservation equations of mass, momentum and energy, with an implicit time scheme and with the adoption of the hexahedral mesh and the moving mesh techniques in areas of moving surfaces. Turbulence is modeled with the k.e model. Simulations were carried out simultaneously for the rotor angle and the helical twist. The results indicate that the developed models are suitable to analyze the water flows both in the chamber and in the turbine. For the turbine, the numerical results of torque were compared for all the cases.

메타분석을 통한 뇌졸중 환자의 인지기능에 대한 가상현실 중재 효과 연구 (A Study on the Effect of Virtual Reality Intervention on Cognitive Function in Individuals With Stroke Through Meta-analysis)

  • 목적 : 본 연구에서는 뇌졸중 환자의 손상된 인지기능 회복을 위한 가상현실 중재의 효과를 체계적인 문헌고찰과 메타분석을 통하여 검증하고자 하였다. 연구방법 : 체계적 문헌고찰을 위하여 최근 10년 동안의 국내·외 무작위 대조 임상시험 연구들을 대상으로 조사하였다. 검색을 위한 학술 데이터베이스로는, 영어로 작성된 연구의 검색을 위해 PubMed와 MEDLINE, CINAHL을 사용하였고, 국문으로 작성된 연구의 검색을 위해서는 DBpia와 한국학술정보, 스콜라 학지사·교보문고, 학술교육원을 사용하였다. 정보의 추출은 PICO 방식으로 시행하였다. 계량적 메타분석을 위하여, 결과변인의 하위그룹을 전반적인 인지기능, 집중력과 기억력, 실행기능으로 분류하여 결과변인을 합성하였다. 결과 : 최종 9편의 무작위 대조 임상시험이 선정되었고, 참여대상자의 총인원은 실험군이 140명, 대조군이 131명이었다. 효과크기는 랜덤효과모델로 산출하였다. 하위그룹들에 대한 가상현실 중재의 효과크기는 전반적인 인지기능이 0.422(95% CI: 0.101~0.742; p=0.010)로 중간효과크기에 가까웠고, 집중력과 기억력이 0.249(95% CI: -0.107~0.605; p=0.170)로 작은효과크기, 실행기능은 0.666(95% CI: 0.136~1.195; p=0.014)으로 중간효과크기를 나타내었다. 결론 : 가상현실 환경의 다양한 자극과 본 연구의 결과를 고려할 때, 가상현실 중재는 통합적인 인지기능에 대한 중재에 적용되어야 할 것이다. 또한 전통적인 뇌졸중 인지재활 중재와 더불어 추가적인 중재로 활용되는 것이 적절할 것이다.

Process Characteristics for $YB_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-d}$ Films Fabricated by Single Target Sputter and Surface Modification Technique

  • Thin films of $YB_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-d}$ were prepared on various substrated of MgO(100), $SrTiO_{3}$, and $LaAlO_{3}$ by using off-axis magentron sputtering methods and annealing in-situ. The prarameters of film fabrication processes had been optimized through a "follow the lcoal maxima" strategy to yield good quality films in therms of the critical temperature $T_{c}$ and the critical current density $J_{c}$. Optimizedproecsses employing a plane magndtron and an cylindrical magnetron yielded $T_{c}$>90K along with $J_{c}$$10^{6}$A/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at 77K and > 2${\times}$$10^{7}$A/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at 5K. The sampels, however, showed degradationinthe properties, after chemical etching for fabrication of microbridges with the line width of 2-10 mocrons. In particular, the value of $T_{c}$ for the microbridges of 2microns was as small as 80%. The degradation was strongly dependent on the line width through a formula : $T_{c}$(e)=$T_{c}$)b) [1-a exp(-1000 bL)} where $T_{c}$(e) and $T_{c}$ (b) are the values of $T_{c}$ in the absolute scale measured after and before chemical etching, respectively and L is the line width in mm. By utilizing a best fitting technique, the proper constant values of a and to b were found as exp(-1.2) and 0.22, respectively. This formula was very useful in estimatiing the upper limit of the device operationtemperature.

Perturbation 효과를 이용한 원형 마이크로스트립 안테나의 소형화 (Miniaturization of Circular Microstrip Antenna Using the Perturbation Effect)

  • 본 논문에서는 설계 주파수인 1.575 GHz 에서 동작하는 마이크로스트립 안테나의 패치 크기 ( 공진 길이 )를 줄이기 위하여 패치의 양단 끝부분을 음각으로 구성하여 perturbation 효과를 적용한 3 차원 구조의 모자형 원형 마이크로스트립 안테나를 고안 및 설계하였다. 그 결과 반사 손실 - 26.59 dB, -10 dB 대역폭 65 MHz(4.13 %), 이득 4.66 dBd, - 3 dB 빔폭 E, H-면 각각 $79^{\circ},\;87^{\circ}$의 특성을 나타내었으며, 안테나 직경은 85 mm로 평면형의 97 mm에 비해 12 mm(12.4 %) 단축되어 23.2 %의 면적 축소율을 얻었다. 또한 패치의 크기를 더욱 소형화시키기 위하여 최적화시킨 양각 대 음각의 비와 점근선 각도를 조정하여 설계 주파수에서 동작하는 선형 편파 및 원형 편파 야구공형 원형 마이크로스트립 안테나를 설계 및 제작하였다. 선형 편파의 경우, 패치 직경은 74 mm로 평면형에 비해 41.8 %의 면적 축소율을 얻었으며, 원편파의 경우, 패치 직경이 82 mm로 평면형 선형 편파에 비해 28.5 %의 면적 축소율을 얻었다. 이로써 원형 마이크로스트립 안테나의 소형화에 perturbation 효과 적용이 유효함을 확인하였다.
