The welded structure unnecessarily remains residual stress due to the very high heating of local region and lastly cooling. The residual stress sometimes causes fracture initiation of welded structures. In this paper, distribution and magnitude of tensile and compressive residual stresses in the TIG(Tungsten Inert Gas) welded aluminum alloy such as Al5083-H112 are measured by using the hole-drilling method. Furthermore, the effects of residual stresses in the TIG welded aluminum CCT(Center Crack Tension) and SEN(Single Edge Notched) Specimens on the fatigue crack propagation behavior are analyzed. The fatigue cracks initiated at residual stresses region are influnced by tensile and compressive residual stresses. However, the effects are found to be released fast for both cases according to the cyclic loads and extension of crack length.
This study aimed to investigate the fatigue crack growth behavior of a kind of fiber metal laminates (FML) under four different stress levels. The FML specimen consists of three 2024-T3 aluminum alloy sheets and two layers of glass/epoxy composite lamina. Tensile-tensile cyclic fatigue tests were conducted on centrally notched specimen at four stress levels with various maximum values. A digital camera system was used to take photos of the propagating cracks on both sides of the specimens. Image processing software was adopted to accurately measure the length of the cracks on each photo. The test results show that: (1) a-N and da/dN-a curves of FML specimens can be divided into transient crack growth segment, steady state crack growth segment and accelerated crack growth segment; (2) compared to 2024-T3 aluminum alloy, the fatigue properties of FML are much better; (3) da/dN-${\Delta}K$ curves of FML specimens can be divided into fatigue crack growth rate decrease segment and fatigue crack growth rate increase segment; (3) the maximum stress level has a large influence on a-N, da/dN-a and da/dN-${\Delta}K$ curves of FML specimens; (4) the fatigue crack growth rate da/dN presents a nonlinear accelerated increasing trend to the maximum stress level; (5) the maximum stress level has an almost linear relationship with the stress intensity factor ${\Delta}K$.

Austenitic stainless steel is used as high temperature components such as gas turbine blade and disk because of its good thermal resistance. In the present investigation, tensile and low cycle fatigue(LCF) behavior of stainless steel for turbine disks was studied at wide temperature range $20^{\circ}C\;{\sim}\;750^{\circ}C$. In the tensile tests, it was shown that elastic modulus, yield strength, ultimate tensile strength decreased when temperature increased. The effect on fatigue failure of the parameters such as plastic strain amplitude, stress amplitude and plastic strain energy density was also investigated. Coffin-Manson and Morrow models were used to adjust experimental data and predict the fatigue life behavior at different mean strain values during cyclic loading of high temperature components.

Longitudinal reinforcements of the plastic hinge region were behaved tensile deformation and compressional deformation by direction of lateral loading. However Confinement steels were behaved only tensile deformation by lateral loading. Transverse steels were laid the state of tension in the lateral loading of time, and they were laid state that stress is zero when it was removed lateral load. Nine specimens were tested under cyclic stresses(tension and zero). The purpose of this research is to investigate the strain behavior and capacity of energy for confinement steel. The selected test variables are $L/d_b(L/d_b=6)$, size of reinforcement and specified yielding strength(300, 400, 500 MPa).

This study presents cyclic stress-strain and tensile test results at room temperature (RT) and 316℃ using cold-worked TP304 stainless steel base and weld metals. By comparing the cyclic hardening/softening behavior and failure cycle of cold-worked materials with those of irradiated austenitic stainless steels, the feasibility of simulating the irradiation effect on cyclic deformation and failure behaviors of TP304 stainless steel base and weld metals was investigated. It was found that, in the absence of strain-induced martensite trasformation, cold-working could properly simulate the change in cyclic hardening/softening behavior of TP304 stainless steel base and weld metals due to neutron irradiation. It was also recognized that cold-working could adequately simulate the reduction in failure cycles of TP304 stainless steel base and weld metals due to neutron irradition in the low-cycle fatigue region.
The purpose of this study was to investigate experimentally the fatigue performance of reinforced concrete (RC) beams with hot-rolled ribbed fine-grained steel bars of yielding strength 500MPa (HRBF500). Three rectangular and three T-section RC beams with HRBF500 bars were constructed and tested under static and constant-amplitude cyclic loading. Prior to the application of repeated loading, all beams were initially cracked under static loading. The major test variables were the steel ratio, cross-sectional shape and stress range. The stress evolution of HRBF500 bars, the information about crack growth and the deflection developments of test beams were presented and analyzed. Rapid increases in deflections and tension steel stress occured in the early stages of fatigue loading, and were followed by a relatively stable period. Test results indicate that, the concrete beams reinforced with appropriate amount of HRBF500 bars can survive 2.5 million cycles of constant-amplitude cyclic loading with no apparent signs of damage, on condition that the initial extreme tensile stress in HRBF500 steel bars was controlled less than 150 MPa. It was also found that, the initial extreme tension steel stress, stress range, and steel ratio were the main factors that affected the fatigue properties of RC beams with HRBF500 bars, whose effects on fatigue properties were fully discussed in this paper, while the cross-sectional shape had no significant influence in fatigue properties. The results provide important guidance for the fatigue design of concrete beams reinforced with HRBF500 steel bars.
The paper proposes analytical forms able to represent with very good approximation the constitutive law experimentally deducible by means of uniaxial cyclic compressive tests on material having softening post-peak behaviour in compression and negligible tensile strength. The envelope, unloading and reloading curves characterizing the proposed model adequately approach structural responses corresponding to different levels of nonlinearity and ductility, requiring a not very high number of parameters to be calibrated experimentally. The reliability of the model is shown by comparing the results that it is able to provide with the ones analytically deduced from two reference models (one for concrete, another for masonry) available in the literature, and with experimental results obtained by the authors in the framework of a research in progress.
Subcritical crack growth in rock material can occur under monotonic and cyclic loading. Subcritical crack growth plays an important role in evaluating the long-term stability of structures in rocks. This paper presents the results of studies conducted to determine subcritical crack growth parameters under monotonic and cyclic loading in rock-like material. The constant stress rate method was employed for monotonic loading. The subcritical crack growth parameter of n under cyclic loading was determined by the relation between the rate of crack growth per cycle and stress intensity factor range. The specimens contained pre-existing flaws with 45 and 60 degrees of inclination angle and flaws spacing and continuity were varied to arrange crack growth in shear or tensile manner. The results show that the parameter of n is almost constant regardless of the applied load conditions such as monotonic and cyclic or shear and tension.
The aim of this study was to investigate the degradation of piezoelectric properties with compressive cy-clic loading, the change in bending strength before and after poling treatment and fracture strength in MPB depending on the amount of MnO2 addition. The MPB with 0.25 wt.% MnO2 showed the best resistance against the piezoelectric degradation with compressive cyclic loading. Bending strength increased when pol-ing and loading directions are parallel, however decreased when poling and loading directions are per-pendicular each other. Because, during poling treatment, compressive residual stress is generated in the pol-ing direction but tensile residual stress in the perpendicular direction to poling direction.

A coupled algorithm is proposed which first considers the creation of porous structure of the material and then the simulations of response of mechanical components with porous structure to a variable load history. The simulations are carried out by the Prandtl operator approach in the finite element method (FEM) which enables structural simulations of mechanical components subjected to variable thermomechanical loads. Temperature-dependent material properties and multilinear kinematic hardening of the material can be taken into account by this approach. Several simulations are then performed for a tensile-compressive specimen made of a generic porous structure and mechanical properties of Aluminium alloy AlSi9Cu3. Variable mechanical load history has been applied to the specimens under constant temperature conditions. Comparison of the simulation results shows a considerable elastoplastic stress-strain response in the vicinity of pores whilst the surface of the gauge-length of the specimen remains in the elastic region of the material. Moreover, the distribution of the pore sizes seems more influential to the stress-strain field during the loading than their radial position in the gauge-length.
