This paper's objective is to investigate the display fatigue quantitatively according to watching 2D and 3D videos on the display. Though it has been known commonly that display fatigue by 3D is greater than one by 2D, there have been few researches with an aim to measure display fatigue scientifically. Flicker fusion frequency and cybersickness degree were measured before/after sixteen subjects(Male 8, Female 8) watch the 2D, 3D images. Two dependent variables affected by 2D and 3D videos were analyzed and compared statistically based on scientific evidences and researches. 3D showed a value 4 times as much as 2D in cybersickness increase rate, and the reduction rate of 3D was 2 times as much as that of 2D.

This paper investigates the effects of scene movements on cybersickness to develop the guidelines of scene movements in virtual environments. The types of scene movements were made for both scene navigations(through the axes of X: lateral, Y: fore & after, and Z: vertical) and scene rotations(by pitch, roll and yaw). And there were each three levels of speed; 2.7, 4.5 and 6.3 /s(for navigation), and 10, 20 and 30 /s(for rotation) were conducted. Twelve participants were exposed to each scene for 15 minutes, and three tests were performed to measure the degree of sickness. Before and after subjects were exposed to virtual environments, they were requested to describe their sickness symptoms by means of answering the Simulator Sickness Questionnaire(SSQ). And the postural stability tests, in which the Center of Pressure(COP) of subjects were traced and recorded by a 'force platform', were conducted. During the exposure on virtual environments, the subjects were requested to rate the degree of nausea. For both navigation and rotation, the effects of speeds and axes were significant in the SSQ scores and the nausea ratings, while it was not in the COP. The correlation between the SSQ scores and the COP data was not found. Therefore, it was inappropriate to use COP as a measure of cybersickness. The degree of sickness increased, except for the case of the yaw, as the speed increased. The sickness was most severe in the scene navigation through the axis X and in the scene rotation by the yaw.
This paper presents an interactive wind system that generates artificial winds in a virtual reality (VR) environment according to online user inputs from a steering wheel and an acceleration pedal. Our system is composed of a head-mounted display (HMD) and three electric fans to make the user sense touch from the winds blowing from three different directions in a racing car VR application. To evaluate the effectiveness of the winds for reducing VR cybersickness, we employ the simulator sickness questionnaire (SSQ), which is one of the most common measures for cybersickness. We conducted experiments on 13 subjects for the racing car contents first with the winds and then without them or vice versa. Our results showed that the VR contents with the artificial winds clearly reduce cybersickness while providing a positive user experience.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the display fatigue quantitatively when operating 2D and HMD-based 3D VR bicycles. Though it is generally accepted that the display fatigue induced by 3D VR is greater than that induced by 2D VR, there have been few studies which attempted to measure the display fatigue scientifically. The subjective degree of cybersickness and quantitative flicker fusion frequency (FFF) were measured in twenty subjects (Male 10, Female 10) before and after they operated 2D and 3D VR bicycles for 5 min. Two dependent variables affected by the 2D and 3D VR displays were analyzed and compared statistically based on scientific evidence and research. This study showed that 3D VR resulted in a significantly higher cybersickness rate and a significant lower FFF rate than 2D VR. Given the current propensity to couple VR techniques with exercise equipment, it seems appropriate to verify the general beliefs through scientific methods and experimental measures such as the FFF and cybersickness questionnaires.

In this study, we compared and analyzed the performance of each Convolution Neural Network (CNN) by implementing the CNN that reflected the characteristics of the cerebral structure, in order to analyze the CNN that was used for the prediction of cybersickness, and provided the performance varying depending on characteristics of the brain. Dizziness has many causes, but the most severe symptoms are considered attributable to vestibular dysfunction associated with the brain. Brain waves serve as indicators showing the state of brain activities, and tend to exhibit differences depending on external stimulation and cerebral activities. Changes in brain waves being caused by external stimuli and cerebral activities have been proved by many studies and experiments, including the thesis of Martijn E. Wokke, Tony Ro, published in 2019. Based on such correlation, we analyzed brain wave data collected from dizziness-inducing environments and implemented the dizziness predictive artificial neural network reflecting characteristics of the cerebral structure. The results of this study are expected to provide a basis for achieving optimal performance of the CNN used in the prediction of dizziness, and for predicting and preventing the occurrence of dizziness under various virtual reality (VR) environments.
In this study, the effect of augmented reality subtitle content on users was investigated by using a subjective evaluation method and a statistical approach. The human factor was defined as subtitle position and font size. Then, we analyzed the effects of the defined factors on human eye comfort and visibility. Ten participants conducted related survey evaluation tasks with a 1-minute break after viewing the content for 3 minutes.
This study is an experiment on the use of RDW(Redirected Walking) technology, which helps users to hardly feel the difference of user movement in the limited physical space and the extended virtual space when the user moves while wearing the HMD in the real world. The RDW function installed in 3D space realization software such as Unity3D is used to induce the user's redirection by slightly distorting the virtual space according to the user's point of view. However, if the RDW distortion rate is used excessively, dissonance is highly likely to occur. In particular, it is easy to make errors that cause cybersickness of users. It is important to obtain the RDW data value in the virtual environment so that the user does not feel fatigue and cybersickness even after wearing the HMD for a long time. In this experiment, it was tested whether the user's RDW was safely implemented, and item and obstacle arrangement data were obtained through this experiment. The RDW data obtained as a result of the experiment were used for item placement and obstacle placement in the virtual space.
