A Study on the Precision Hole Machiningof Pre Hardened Mould Steel (프리하든 금형강의 정밀 홀 가공에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, precision processing is carried out for the pre hardened steel(HRC 54), which is one of injection mould materials. Processing characteristics are estimated according to the number of tool cutting blade and roundness is observed by the 3-Dimensional measuring machine. The surface roughness affected by the wire electric discharge machining are measured. Cutting component force of STAVOX is the highest in condition of 2F processing because load per a blade of cutting tool is high. Especially, the difference in Fz is over 20N by cutting load. The slower spindle rotation speed and tool feed rate are, the better cutting component force is. The roundness of hole processed in condition of 4F is good because feed rate is able to be fast. When rotation speed is increased, the surface roughness is decreased. The surface roughness acquired in condition of 2F processing is higher about 50% than 4F processing.

  • For developing 5-axis laser cutting systems, many problems such as rotating of laser head or table, 5-axis tool path generation and collision avoidance between laser head and product should be solved. In this paper, a five-axis laser cutting machine with table swivel and rotary type configuration is developed. The five axes (X,Y,Z,A,B) are controlled and interfaced to PC via MMC board. Two kinds of CAM S/W such as commercial 5-axis CAM S/W(Euclid) and UG-API are engaged to generate NC code for the developed 5-axis laser cutting machine.

  • In the CNC lathe working, the study of the effects of various cutting conditions on cut surface roughness is less active than that of the ordinary latee. After lathe working of SM45C, a carbon steel material for machine structure, its surface roughness was measured using a stylus surface roughness tester. In most cases, good surface roughness was obtained over 160m/min cutting speed and then the proper cutting depth was found as 1.0~1.5mm.

  • An efficient method of machining impeller is presented. In the roughing process, the cutting area is divided into two regions to reduce cutting time and select cutting tools. The regions are determined by characteristic point on the geometry of impeller blade. Then, the tool of the maximum radius is selected in each area. Tool interference in cutting areas is avoided by checking the intersection between cooing tool axis and ruling line on blade surface.

  • Recently, the world are preparing for new revolution, called as If (Information Technology), NT (Nano-Technology), and BT (Bio-Technology). NT can be applied to various fields such as semiconductor-micro technology. Ultra precision processing is required for NT in the field of mechanical engineering. Recently, together with radical advancement of electronic and photonics industry, necessity of ultra precision processing is on the increase for the manufacture of various kernel parts. Therefore, in this paper, stability of ultra precision cutting unit is investigated, this unit is the kernel unit in ultra precision processing machine. According to alteration of shape and material about hinge, stability investigation is performed. In this paper, hinge shapes of micro stage in UPCU(Ultra Precision Cutting Unit) are designed as two types, where, hinge shapes are composed of round and rectangularity. Elasticity and strength are analyzed about micro stage, according to hinge shapes, by FE analysis. Micro stage in ultra precision processing machine has to keep hinge shape under cutting condition with 3-component force (cutting component, axial component, radial component) and to reduce modification against cutting force. Then we investigated its elasticity and its strength against these conditions. Material of micro stage is generally used to duralumin with small thermal deformation. But, stability of micro stage is investigated, according to elasticity and strength due to various materials, by FE analysis. Where, Used materials are composed of aluminum of low strength and cooper of medium strength and spring steel of high strength. Through this stability investigation, trial and error is reduced in design and manufacture, at the same time, we are accumulated foundation data for unit control.

  • A performance of CNC 3-axis pipe profile-cutting machine we developed was evaluated by measuring and verifying a positioning accuracy of its feeding unit and a cutting shape accuracy of pipe workpiece. The positioning accuracy was verified by comparing moving distance actuated by PLC motion controller with actual one measured by a laser interferometer. The cutting shape accuracy was also verified by comparing a cutting shape obtained through scanning and 3D modeling the pipe workpiece with that through CL data.

  • This study describes a system that monitors the tool and cutting state of automatic beveling operation in real time. As a signal for cutting state monitoring, a motor current detected from the spindle drive system of the automatic beveling machine is used to monitor abnormal state. Because automatic beveling is processed using a face milling cutter, the cutting force mechanism is the same as the milling process. The predicted cutting torque is obtained using a cutting force model based on specific cutting resistance. Then, the predicted cutting torque is converted into the spindle motor current value, and cutting state stability is diagnosed by comparing it with the motor current value detected during beveling operation. The experimental results show that the spindle motor current can detect abnormal cutting state such as overload and tool wear during beveling operation, and can diagnose the cutting stability using the proposed equip-current line diagram.

Development and Performance Evaluation of Small and Practical Key Way Machine (실용적인 소형 Key 홈 가공기 개발 및 성능평가)

  • When we cut a key way on the axial or on the boss, we generally use a slotter or a broach. To do the key seating, turing operations have to be preceded and then the key on the axial or on the boss can be seated. For this reason, the production process of key way cutting becomes complicated. If is necessary to simplify the process and we have developed a small practical machine for key way cutting. The machine is located on the carriage of the lathe. Using this small and practical key way machine, after operation the turing, you do not have to remove the workpiece from the chuck of the lathe to carry on the key seating process. The developed machine will save cutting time and the cost.

Design of an Algorithm to Simulate Surface Roughness in a Turning for an Integrated Virtual Machine Tool

  • The fundamental issues to evaluate machine tool's performance through simulation pertain to the physical models of the machine tool itself and of process while the practical problems are related to the development of the modular software structure. It allows the composition of arbitrary machine/process models along with the development of programs to evaluate each state of machining process. Surface roughness is one of the fundamental factors to evaluate machining process and performance of machine tool, but it is not easy to evaluate surface roughness due to its tribological complexity. This paper presents an algorithm to calculate surface roughness considering cutting geometry, cutting parameters, and contact dynamics of cutting between tool and workpiece as well as tool wear in turning process. The designed virtual machining system can be used to evaluate the surface integrity of a turned surface during the design and process planning phase for the design for manufacturability analysis of the concurrent engineering.
