This paper investigates the relationship between cutting conditions and Acoustic Emission(AE) signals; AEavg, AErms, AEmode, as the base working to monitor the tool wear with in-process. For this purpose, cutting tests were conducted on a CNC lathe with comprehensive cutting conditions.. It is known that AEavg and AErms are proportionaly increased as the increasing of cutting velocity and depth of cut respectively. It is also known that AEmode among three kinds of AE signals may be applied for in-process monitoring to make the self diagnosis system because of its stability to the variation of cutting condition.
This paper presents atomization characteristics of cutting fluids. To analyze the behavior characteristics of cutting fluid, analytical approach and experimental measurement were performed to predict the aerosol size, velocity and concentration due to cutting fluid atomization mechanism in machining operation. The established analytical model which is based on atomization theory analyzes the cutting fluid motion and aerosol generation in machining process. The predictive models can be used as a basis for environmental impact analysis on the shop floor. It can be also facilitate the optimization of cutting fluid usage in achieving a balanced consideration of productivity and environmental consciousness.
Virtual computer numerical control(VCNC) arises from the concept that one can experience pseudo-real machining with a computer-numerically-controlled(CNC) machine before actually cutting an object. To achieve accurate VCNC, it is important to determine abnormal behavior, such as chatter, before cutting. Detecting chatter requires an understanding of the dynamic cutting force model. In general, the cutting process is a closed loop system that consists of structural and cutting dynamics. Machining instability, namely chatter, results from the interaction between these two dynamics. Several previous reports have predicted stability for a single path, using a simple cutting force model without tool runout and penetration effects. This study considers both tool runout and penetration effects, using experimental modal analysis, to obtain more accurate predictions. The machining stability in the corner cut, which is a typical transient cut, was assessed from an evaluation of the cutting configurations at the corner.
The current from the feed motor of a machine tool contains substantial information about the machining state. There have been many researches that investigated the current as a measure for the cutting farces. However it has been reported that this indirect measurement of the cutting farces from the feed motor current is only feasible in low frequency. In this research, it was presented that the bandwidth of the current monitoring can be expanded to 130 Hz. And the unusual behavior of the current was examined in this bandwidth. The cross-feed directional cutting force influences the machined surface of the workpiece, which makes it necessary to estimate this force to control the roughness of the machined sulfate. The current exists in the stationary feed motor, and it can give the useful information on the quality of the machined surface. But the unpredictable behavior of the current prevents applying the current to prediction of the cutting state. Empirical approach was conducted to resolve the problem. As a result, the current was shown to be related to the accumulation of the accumulation of the infinitesimal rotation of the motor. rotation of the motor. Subsequently the relationship between the current and the cutting force was identified.

This research describes that the cutting characteristics and tool wear behavior in the micro cutting of three kinds of wear resistant cemented carbides (WC-Co; V40, V50 and V60) using PCD (Poly Crystalline Diamond) and PCBN (Poly crystalline Cubic Boron Nitride) cutting tools by use of the SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) direct observation method. The purpose of this research is to present reasonable cutting conditions from the viewpoint of high efficient cutting refer to a precise finished surface and tool wear. Summary of the results is as follows: (1) The cutting forces tend to increase as the increase of the weight percentage of WC particles, and the thrust forces was larger than the principal forces in the cutting of WC-Co. These phenomena were different from the ordinary cutting such as cutting of steel or cast iron. (2) The cutting speed hardly influenced the thrust force, because of the frictional force between the cutting tool edge and small WC particles at low cutting speed region such as 2$\mu\textrm{m}$/s. It seemed that the thrust cutting force occurred by the contact between the flank face and work material near the cutting edge. (3) The wear mechanism for PCD tools is abrasion by hard WC particles of the work materials, which leads diamond grain to be detached from the bond. (4) From the SEM direct observation in cutting the WC-Co, it seems that WC particles are broken and come into contact with the tool edge directly. This causes tool wear, resulting in severe tool damage. (5) In the orthogonal micro cutting of WC-Co, the tool wear in the flank face was formed bigger than that in the rake face on orthogonal micro cutting. And the machining surface integrity on the side of the cutting tool with a negative rake angle was better than that with a positive one, as well as burr in the case of using the cutting tool with a negative rake angle was formed very little compared to the that with a positive one.
The term 'High Speed Machining' has been used for many years to describe end milling with small diameter tools at high rotational speeds, typically 10,000-100,000rpm. The process was applied in the aerospace industry for the machining of light alloys, notably aluminum. In recent year, however, the mold and die industry has begun to use the technology for the production of components, including those manufactured from hardened tool steels. With increasing cutting speed used in modern machining operation, the thermal aspects of cutting become more and mole Important. It not only directly influences in rate of tool weal, but also affects machining precision recognized as thermal expansion and the roughness of the surface finish. Hence, one needs to accurately evaluate the rate of cutting heat generation and temperature distributions on the machining surface. To overcome the heat generation, we used to cutting fluid. Cutting fluid plays a roles in metal cutting process. Mechanically coupled effectiveness of cutting fluids affect to friction coefficient at tool-workpiece interface and cutting temperature and chip control, surface finish, tool wear and form accuracy. Through this study, we examined the behavior of heat generation in high-speed machining and the cooling performance of various cooling methods.

In end milling processes, characterized by use of rotating tools, the underformed chip thickness varies periodically with the phase change of tool. In current study, as a new approach to analyse shear behaviors In the shear plane and chip-tool friction behavior chip-tool contact region during an end milling process. In this approach, an up-end milling process is transformed into an equivalent oblique cutting process. Experimental investigations for two sets of cutting tests i.e.. up-end milling and the equivalent oblique cutting test were performed to verify the presented model.
The needs of ultra precision machined parts is increase every days. But the experimental data of nonferrous metal is insufficient. The cutting behavior in micro cutting area is different from that of traditional cutting because of the size effect. Al6061 is widely used as optical parts such as LASER reflector's mirror or multimedia instrument. Al6061 opper is machined by ultra precision machine with natural diamond tool. From the experiment and discussion on the cutting force and worked surface roughness as the variable spindle speed, feed rate and depth of cut. As a result, the cutting force increases as the increasing depth of cut, but the worked surface roughness does not increase so much. The surface roughness is good when spindle sped is above 1200rpm, and feed rate is small. The influence of depth of cut is very small.
In this paper, we conducted finite element analysis to investigate the residual stress redistributions of weldment due to cutting. To evaluate the effect of the residual stress on the fatigue behavior of weldment, test specimens are commonly cut from the weldment, but the distributions of the residual stress in the cut specimen should be different from those in the original weldment. Our work is to evaluate the difference between the residual stresses before and after weldment-cutting to understand the effect of cutting on the residual stress. Transient heat analysis, elastic-plastic mechanical analysis and element removal technique are used to simulate the welding and cutting procedures on the commercial finite element code ABAQUS.
