A MORPHOLOGIC STUDY ON STRAIGHT WIRE BRACKET FOR KOREAN (한국인의 Straight Wire Bracket의 형태에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to obtain the norm of the crown shape (tip, torque, in/out) and arch form, and to provide basic data for fabricating straight wire bracket and ideal arch wire for Korean. 100 subjects aged from 17 to 26 (50 females, 50 males) were selected with a normal occlusion. By measuring the size, angulation, inclination, arch width, facial prominance of the teeth and the molar offset, the following results were obtained. 1. Average, standard deviation, minimum, maximum of each measuring item for each teeth were obtained. 2. Intermolar width (${\underline{6}}$ to ${\underline{6}}$) of upper arch before occlusal surface cutting and intermolar width of upper arch (${\underline{6}}$ to ${\underline{6}}$, ${\underline{7}}$ to ${\underline{7}}$) after occlusal surface cutting showed statistical difference. There was no difference between sexes in any other measuring items. 3. Arch form and specification of straight wire bracket for Korean who have normal occlusion was obtained.

Online Trajectory Planning for a PUMA Robot

  • Robotic applications, such as automatic fish cutting, require online trajectory planning because the material properties of the object, such as the bone or flesh conditions, are not known in advance. Different trajectories are required when the material properties vary. An effective online trajectory-planning algorithm is proposed using quaternions to determine the position and orientation of a robot manipulator with a spherical wrist. Quaternions are free of representation singularities and permit computationally efficient orientation interpolations. To prevent singular configurations, the exact locations of the kinematic singularities of the PUMA 560 manipulator are derived and geometrically illustrated when a forearm offset exists and the third link length is not zero.

  • With the advance of processing technology , so as to spare fuel, piston heads used in automobile reciprocating engine have complex 3-dimension, with respect to shape such as ovality, profile, eccentricity, offset, recess. Therefore, coming out of the existing process work used master cam. the process work is performed using a CNC lathe. For a precision processing, the processing work is need to make study of high speed feed gear synchronized with the rotative speed of main spindle. And then the high speed feeding system must maintain high dynamic stiffness, high speed and high positioning accuracy . In this paper, in order to achieve high speed cutting tool feeding. The linear brushless DC motor is used for satisfying this process work. The ball bush and turicite is used as the guidance of the feed gear system. Also linear encoders, digital servo amplifiers and controller are used for controlling driving motor. This paper presents the design and simulation of the new tool feed system for noncircular machining.

Vegetative Propagation of Amaryllis (Hippeastrum × johnsonii ) by Different Cutting Methods

  • Amaryllis ($Hippeastrum{\times}johnsonii$) is commonly propagated by three methods: seeds, offset bulblets, and twin scaling. Since the number and size of bulblets produced by these methods are low, we conducted an experiment to evaluate different bulb cutting methods for propagation. For this purpose, bulbs (circumference of 30 - 35 cm) were sectioned or notched into 8, 12, or 16 segments or twin-scaled into 48, 72, or 96 segments for bulblet formation. Our results show that the largest number of bulblets was produced by the twin scaling method, but they take longer to grow to a final, commercial size. Sectioning and notching resulted in larger, but fewer bulblets than twin-scaling. Compared to notching, sectioning provided more space for the bulblets to grow, and is therefore the recommended method. While increasing the number of sections cut from a single bulb resulted in a larger number of bulblets, the diameter of the bulblets decreased. Therefore, sectioning the bulb into 8 segments was the best method for producing an acceptable number of vigorous bulblets.

  • A noncircular cutting such as a piston cutting has depended on the copy-machining because of its complex shape. But the copy-machining needs a master model and brings about a low quality of the piston caused by being worn out of the master model. And the lower cutting speed reduces the productivity. In this paper, for solving these problems, a specialized software system and its subsequent procedure are presented. The shape of a piston consists of an oval, an offset, recesses, and eccentricities. The paper describes these shapes as a consistent equation that is a function of the rotational angle and the position of longitudinal direction(Z-axis). It is simple to define the characteristic geometry of a piston and to generate a tool path for CNC machining. This paper proposes the a proper structure of a 4-axes CNC(Computerized Numerical Control) lathe for machining the piston. As well as X-axis and Z-axis, are attached to the machine a C-axis for rotation and a Y-axis for higher speedy prismatic motion parallel to X-axis.

  • This paper presents the monitoring method of machining error and quality check to improve the productivity of boring manufacturing process. Machining error usually appears as the offset of spatial location of actual cutting path compared to ideal cutting path. In order to monitor an error of workpiece, multiple factors affecting quality of boring, such as distortion of workpiece, clamping error, radial rotation error of the spindle and motion error of machine tools, were took into account. To verify the productive quality, we propose the quality check system. The system based on IT convergence analyzes the process error rate and saves the analyzed data in memory. Also, these play important roles in detecting an inferior production goods and can decrease the production cost and loss of bearing.

Automatic Generation of Hexahedral Meshes in Shell Structures (쉘 구조물에서 육면체 요소망의 자동 생성)

  • This paper describes hexahedral mesh generation for various shell structures, such as automobile bodies, plastic injection mold components and sheet metal parts by using chordal surfaces. After generaling one-layered tetrahedral mesh by an advancing front algorithm, the chordal surfaces are constructed by cutting of tetrahedral elements. Since the choral surfaces are composed of tri/quad elements with poor quality, they are transformed into quadrilateral elements with good quality. Hexahedral elements are then generated by offsetting these quadrilateral elements. The boundary nodes of hexahedral elements are generated on the outer surfaces of the original shell structures. Sample models including nonuniform thickness have been tested to validate the proposed algorithm.

Influence of Electrical Conductivity of Dielectric on Machinability of W-EDM (방전액의 전도율이 와이어방전가공성에 미치는 영향)

  • This work deals with the electrical conductivity of dielectric and cobalt percentage on output parameters such as metal removal rate and surface roughness value of sintered carbides cut by wire-electrical discharge machining (W-EDM). To obtain a precise workpiece with good quality, some extra repetitive finish cuts along the rough cutting contour are necessary. Experimental results show that increases of cobalt amount in carbides affects the metal removal rate and worsens the surface quality as a greater quantity of solidified metal deposits on the eroded surface. Lower electrical conductivity of the dielectric results in a higher metal removal rate as the gap between wire electrode and workpiece reduced. Especially, the surface characteristics of rough-cut workpiece and wire electrode were analyzed too. To obtain a good surface equality without cracks, 4 finish-cuts were necessary by reducing the electrical energy and the offset value.

  • For the weld quality improvement and the convenient operation of machines, laser vision system can be used to track weld seams on pressure vessels. There are many bad conditions to the weld grooves such as cutting error, gap variation of weld joint, and offset error of center line caused by misalignment. We developed a laser vision seam tracking system which consists of a laser vision sensor, a two axis positioning mechanism and a user interface program running on the Windows system.   • This paper discusses a method to generate the tool path for NC machining of automobile panel dies. The source data representing a panel die may be generated from digitizing machines, other CAD/CAM systems via IGES files, of compound surface models. From the source data, three types of interferencefree tool paths are generated automatically ; a parallel (Cartesian), an isometric, and a pencil cutting tool path. For the interference-free tool path, a polyhedral model composed of several triangles, and an 'offset triangle' approach are exploited. Finally, some practical examples are illustrated.
