Cutting force is obtained as a sum of chip removing force and ploughing force. Chip removing force is estimated by multiplying specific cutting pressure by cutting area. Since ploughing force is caused from dullness of a tool, its magnitude is constant if depth of cut is bigger than a certain value. Using the linearity of chip removing force to cutting area and the constancy of ploughing force regardless of depth of cut which is over a certain limit each force is separated from measured cutting force and used to establish cutting force model. New rotation matrix to convert the measured cutting force in reference axes into the forces in cutter axes is obtained by considering that tool angles are projected angles from cutter axes to reference axes.. Spindle tilt is also considered far the model. The predicted cutting force estimated from the model is in good agreement with the measured force.
In this paper, an automatic pipe-cutting machine that uses magnet to attach itself to pipe and performs unmanned cutting process is proposed. The machine uses magnetic force to prevent slip and to attach the machine to the pipe against gravity. The magnetic force is adjustable by changing the gap between the magnet and the pipe. During pipe cutting process, the gravity acting on the pipe-cutting machine widely varies nonlinearly where the gravity is function of climbing angle of the cutting machine along the pipe. The cutting quality is deteriorated with irregular cutting speed. It is necessary to maintain constant cutting speed to obtain good cutting quality ...

This paper provides a review of the performance for SM45C using the CNC lathe. Under the constant cutting area, the tool wear for large feed rate is more than the small feed rate, and the progress goes more rapidly as the cutting speed is increased. This is caused by the friction between the workpiece and the bite. The average cutting force increases as the feedrate increases, and decreases as the cutting speed increases. This is because the effective rake/shear angle becomes smaller as the feedrate becomes larger. The higher is the cutting speed and the aspect ratio (the ratio for depth of cut to feedrate), the lower is the cutting force and the surface roughness. Also, for the optimal selection of the cutting conditions, many experimental graphical data were obtained. That is, the cutting force, the tool life, and the surface roughness were measured and investigated as the depth of cut and the feedrate changed. And the size effect was examined as the depth of the cut varied.

A mechanistic model is developed to predict the thrust force and cutting torque of drilling process including wear. A mechanistic oblique cutting force model is used to develop the drilling force model. The cutting lips are divided into small elements and elemental forces are calculated by multiplying the specific cutting pressure with the elemental chip area. The specific cutting pressure is a function of chip thickness, cutting velocity, rake angle and wear. The total forces are then computed by summing the elemental forces. Measured cutting forces are in good agreement with the simulated cutting forces.

This thesis is concerned with the study on the characteristics of the cutting resistance occurring in finish machining of hardened steels such as carbon tool steel and alloy tool steel by a ceramic tool with nose radius. For the purpose, the shape of cutting cross-section made at nose part of the tool was analyzed geometrically and the wear mechanism on the flank face of the ceramic tool is investigated. In order to investigate the characteristics of cutting resistance two categories of cutting conditions are suggested, along with geometrical analysis. One category includes the conventional cutting parameters such as feed and depth of cut, another containing new cutting parameters of thickness of cut and width of cut etc. Thickness of cut width of cut and area of undeformed chip section formed by the condition of engagement between workpiece and cutting tool are determined as the function of feed, depth of cut and nose radius of cutting too, And an effective approach angle is determined by depth of cut and nose radius.

The paper will present chip formation mechanism and surface integrity generation mechanism based on the systematical experimental tests. Some basic factors such as the end milling cutter tooth number, cutting forces, cutting temperature, cutting vibration, the chip status, the surface roughness, the hardness distribution and the metallographic texture of the machined surface layer are involved. the chip formation mechanism is typical thermal plastic shear localization at high cutting speed with less number og shear ribbons and bigger shear angle than at low speed, which means lack of chip deformation. The high cutting speed with much more cutting teeth will be beneficial to the reduction of cutting forces, enlarge machining stability region, depression of temperature increment, auti-fatigability as well as surface roughness. The burrs always exists both at low cutting speed and at high cutting speed. So the deburr process should be arranged for milling titanium alloy in any case.
Roughing of tool steel in its hardened state represents a real challenge in the die and meld industry and process improvement depends on research of tool material, coating technique, and lubrication. However, roughing of hardened steels generates extreme heat and without coolant flooding, tool material cannot withstand the high temperature without choosing the right tools with proper coating. This research conducted milling tests using coated ball end mills to study effects of cutting conditions and geometric parameters of ball end mills on the machinability of hardened tool steel. KP4 steel and STD 11 heat treated steels were used in the dry cutting as the workpiece and TiAIN coated ball end mills with side relief angle of 12$^{\circ}$ was utilized in the cutting tests. Cutting forces, tool wear, and surface roughness were measured in the cutting tests. Results from the experiments showed that 85 m/min of cutting speed and 0.32 mm/rev of feed rate were optimum conditions for better surface finish during rough cutting and 0.26mm/rev with the same cutting speed are optimum conditions in the finish cutting.

Cutting forces and tool deflection in end milling are represented as the closed form of tool rotational angle and cutting conditions. The discrete cutting forces caused by tool entry and exit are continued using the Fourier series expansion. Tool deflection is predicted by direct integration of the distributed loads on cutting edges. Cutting conditions, tool geometry, run-outs and the stiffness of tool clamping pan are considered for cutting forces and tool deflection estimation. Compared to numerical methods, the presented method has advantages in short prediction time and the effects of feeding and run-outs on cutting forces and tool deflection can be analyzed quantitatively. This research can be effectively used in real time machining error estimation and cutting condition selection for error minimization since the ferm accuracy is easily predicted by tool deflect ion curve.

In this study, machinability of some aluminum-magnesium alloy are experimentally investigated using polycrystalline diamond tool with turning, and evaluated some independent cutting variables affected micrometal cutting characteristics as cutting force, specific cutting resistance, shear angles. To know the effect of cutting parameters of single point diamond machining, experiments were performed to measure cutting forces for high speed turning of aluminum alloy 6061-T6, SM45C and FC20 with poly- crystalline diamond and coated cemented carbide tool. Independent cutting variables were changed to a variety of cutting speed, feed rate, rake angles, material properties of workpiece and tool. Futhermore. Some useful informations are obtained in this study can guide micro metal cutting of aluminum alloy with diamond tool.
The use of barley seeder attached to rotary tiller in the rural area has a significant meaning not only for the solution of labor peak season, but also for the increase of land utilization efficiency. The facts that presently being used barley seeders are all based on the mechanical principles of the reverse rotation, center drive and are all using forward rotating tine, which is used to be easily and heavily worn out when it rotates reversely, raise problem of recommending them to rural area in Korea. Therefore, the main objective of the study was to develop new type of rotary tine attachable to barley seeders. To attain the objective the following approaches were applied. (1) The kinematic analysis of reverse rotating barley seeders. (2) The studies on the soil bin and artificial soil. (3) The comparative experiment on the power requirement of prototype tine. The results obtained from the studies are summarized as follow: 1. The kinematic analysis of barley seeder attached to rotary tiller: The following results were obtained from the kinematic analysis for deriving general formulae of the motion and velocity characterizing the rotary tine of barley seeders presently being used by farmers. a) The position vector (P) of edge point (P) in the rotary tine of reverse rotating, center drive was obtained by the following formula. $$P=(vt+Rcos wt)i+Rsin wt j+ \{ Rcos \theta r sin \alpha cos (wt- \beta +\theta r) +Rsin \theta r sin \alpha sin (wt-\beta + \theta r) \} lk $$ b) The velocity of edge point $(P^')$ of reverse rotating, center drive rotary tine was obtained by the following formula. $$(P^')=(V-wR sin wt)i+(w\cdot Rcoswt)j + \{ -w\cdot Rcos \theta r\cdot sin \alpha \cdot sin (wt-\beta +\theta r) + w\cdot Rsin \theta r\cdot sin \alpha \cdot cos (wt- \beta + \theta r \} k $$ c) In order to reduce the power requirement of rotary tine, the angle between holder and edge point was desired to be reduced. d) In order to reduce the power requirement, the edge point of rotary tine should be moved from the angle at the begining of cutting to center line of machine, and the additional cutting width should be also reduced. 2. The studies on the soil bin and artificial soil: In order to measure the power requirement of various cutting tines under the same physical condition of soil, the indoor experiments Viere conducted by filling soil bin with artificially made soil similar to the common paddy soil and the results were as follows: a) When the rolling frequencies$(x)$ of the artificial soil were increased, the densIty$(Y)$ was also increased as follows: $$y=1.073200 +0.070780x - 0.002263x^2 (g/cm^3)$$ b) The absolute hardness $(Y)$ of soil had following relationship with the rolling frequencies$(x)$ and were increased as the rolling frequencies were increased. $$Y=37.74 - \frac {0.64 + 0.17x-0. 0054x^2} {(3.36-0.17x + 0.0054x^2)^3} (kg/cm^3)$$ c) The density of soil had significant effect on the cohesion and angle of internal friction of soil. For instance, the soil with density of 1.6 to 1.75 had equivalent density of sandy loam soil with 29.5% of natural soil moisture content. d) The coefficient of kinetiic friction of iron plate on artificial soil was 0.31 to 0.41 and was comparable with that of the natural soil. e) When the pulling speed of soil bin was the 2nd forward speed of power tiller, the rpm of driving shaft of rotary was similar to that of power tiller, soil bin apparatus is indicating the good indoor tester. 3. The comparative experiment on the power requirement of prototype tine of reverse rotating rotary: According to the preliminary test of rotary tine developed with various degrees of angle between holder and edge pcint due to the kinematic analysis, comparative test between prototype rotary tine with $30 ^\circ $ and $10 ^\circ$ of it and presently being used rotary tine was carried out 2nd the results were as follows: a) The total cutting torque was low when the angle between holder and edge point was reduced. b) $\theta r$ (angle between holder and edge point) of rotary tine seemed to be one: of the factors maximizing the increase of torque. c) As the angle between holder and edge point ($\theta r$) of rotary tine was $30 ^\circ $ rather than $45 ^\circ $, the angle of rotation during cutting soil was reduced and the total cutting torque was accordingly reduced about 10%, and the reduction efficiency of total cutting torque was low when the angle between holder and edge point ($\theta r$) of rotary tine was $10 ^\circ $, which indicates that the proper angle between holder and edge point of rotary tine should be larger than $10 ^\circ $ and smaller than $30 ^\circ $ . From above results, it could be concluded that the use of the prototype rotary tine which reduced the angle between holder and edge point to $30 ^\circ $, insted of $45 ^\circ $, is disirable not only decreasing the power requirements, but also increasing the durabie hour of it. Also forward researches are needed, WIlich determine the optimum tilted angle of rotary brocket, and rearrangement of the rotary tine on the rotary boss.
