고속 공기압 실린더 내장용 쿠션기구의 특성 비교 (Characteristic Comparison on Internal Cushion Devices at High-speed Pneumatic Cylinders)

  • This paper studies the comparative analysis on two different internal cushion devices (the types of needle and relief valve) used to absorb the energy which is generated when the pneumatic cylinder moves with the load at meter-out speed control system. The effect at varying the piston velocity under same driving condition is mainly investigated. The simulation results on pressure in the cushion chamber and the dynamic behavior of the relief valve type cushion device are compared with the needle valve type. Design and performance are improved with the cushion configuration of better quality at high-speed pneumatic cylinder. Based on the relation between absorbed energy and impact energy at cushion process, cushion performance at pneumatic cylinder is evaluated.

Numerical investigation on pressure responsiveness properties of the skirt-cushion system of an air cushion vehicle

  • The pressure responsiveness property of a skirt-cushion system, which is closely related to the overall performance of Air Cushion Vehicles (ACVs), has always been the difficulty and challenging problem involving cushion aerodynamics and flexible skirt dynamics. Based on a widely used bag and finger skirt-cushion system, the pressure responsiveness properties are investigated numerically. The physical process and mechanism are analyzed and a numerical method for evaluating the pressure responsiveness property is proposed. A cushion-skirt information communication platform is also presented for interchanging the force and the skirt configuration between cushion aerodynamics and flexible skirt dynamics. The pressure responsiveness of a typical skirt-cushion system is calculated and the results demonstrate that the pressure responsiveness property helps alleviate the influence of the cushion height changing on the overall performance of ACVs. Finally, the influences of skirt geometrical and cushion aerodynamic parameters on the pressure responsiveness properties are discussed systematically, giving insight into the design of skirt-cushion systems.

  • The partial air cushion supported catamaran (PACSCAT) is a novel Surface Effect Ship (SES) and possesses distinctive resistance performance due to the presence of planing bottom. In this paper, the design of PACSCAT and air cushion system are described in detail. Model tests were carried out for Froude numbers ranging from 0.1 to 1.11, the focus is on the influence of air cushion system on resistance characteristics. Drag-reducing effect of air cushion system was proved by means of contrast tests in cuhionborne and non-cushionborne mode. Wave-making characteristics reflect that the PACSCAT would eventually enter planing regime, in which the air could just escape under the seals and the hull body could operate in a steady state. To acquire different air cushion pressure, air flow rate and leakage height were adjusted during tests. Experimental results show that the resistance performance in planing regime would decrease evidently as the increased air flow rate, however, the scheme with medium leakage height presents the best resistance performance in the hump region.

  • It is well known, for many years, that deep drawability can be improved by applying variable blank holding force. To apply variable blank holding force during cup drawing, we set up cushion pressure control system on the hydraulic press, and the pressure control system is often called NC(Numerically Controlled) cushion system. A cushion pressure control experiment was carried out using the NC cushion and it was shown that the proposed system produced good performance. The comparison of drawability of square cups with and without NC cushion showed that the drawability could be greatly improved when S-shaped pressure curve was applied. This paper includes design details of the NC cushion system and experimental analysis of drawability with NC cushion system.

  • The purpose of this study is to find the effective dynamic characteristics of an improved pneumatic cushion cylinder with a spring type needle valve. The dynamic model represented the peak pressure control method when the pneumatic cushion cylinder is moving forward or backward in the horizontal direction. It was found from the simulation results that the peak pressure in the cushion chamber is affected by the spring, which helps to understand the performance of the pneumatic cushion cylinder and to improve or design a better cushion needle valve component. From the simulation results, the stability of pneumatic cushion cylinder with a spring type needle valve was superior and its cushion capability was also better than that without the spring.

충격흡수시설의 탑승자보호 성능평가 기준에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Injury Criteria of the Occupant Protection Performance of Crush Cushions)

  • The performance of crash cushion systems is certified through the full scale crash tests by the standard for installation and maintenance guidelines for roadside safety appurtenance. The impact severities of impacting vehicles in collision with crash cushion systems are rated by indices THIV and PHD. Crash test results are considered to study the performance of three crash cushion systems. In case of the frontal impact or the offset frontal impact, the results show that THIV values of three systems are very close to the threshold limit for the occupant protection. Also, the results show that PHD would be improper for the occupant protection performance index. In order to improve the occupant protection performance of crash cushions, ASI needs to be included in the impact severity index.

Modeling and Analysis of Cushioning Performance for Multi-layered Corrugated Structures

  • Purpose: The objective of this study was to develop cushion curves models and analyze the cushioning performance of multi-layered corrugated structures (MLCS) using a method based on dynamic stress-energy relationship. Methods: Cushion tests were performed for developing cushion curve models under 12 combinations of test conditions: three different combinations of drop height, material thickness, and static stress for each of four levels of energy densities between 15 and $60kJ/m^3$. Results: Dynamic stress and energy density for MLCS followed an exponential relationship. Cushion curve models were developed as a function of drop height, material thickness, and static stress for different paperboards and flute types. Generally, the differences between the shock pulse (transmitted peak acceleration) and cushion curve (position and width of belly portion) for the first drop and the averaged second to fifth drop were greater than those for polymer-based cushioning materials. Accordingly, the loss of cushioning performance of MLCS was estimated to be greater than that of polymer-based cushioning materials with the increasing number of drops. The position of the belly of the cushion curve of MLCS tends to shift upward to the left with increasing drop height, and the belly portion became narrower. However, depending on material thickness, under identical conditions, the cushion curve of MLCS showed an opposite tendency. Conclusions: The results of this study can be useful for environment-friendly and optimal packaging design as shock and vibrations are the key factors in cushioning packaging design.

  • Electronic products are subjected to many different types of shock environment. As the Optical Disc Drive (ODD) market grows, the number of failures related to shock increases. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the performance of cushion package as well as the product design. Cushion materials such as expanded polystyrene are often used to protect electronic products from shock environment. In this paper, the drop analysis of the cushion package f3r optical disc drives was carried out with the explicit method of LS-DYNA and verified by the drop test. For the optimization of package, response surface approximation model was created using central composite design. As a result, cushioning performance was improved under the critical condition and practical design guidelines of cushion package were suggested.

And we compare drawability of square steel cups with NC cushion and that with conventional cushion. The results show drawability is greatly improved when the pressure control curve is designed in a S-shaped curve. This paper includes design details of the NC cushion system and experimental analysis of drawability with experimental NC cushion system.

  • A pneumatic control system of compressed air as a working fluid has a variety of advantages such as low price, high respondence, non-explosion and good control performance and thus has many applications in the field of automobile, electronic and semiconductor industry. However, it has a difficulty in contolling a precise position due to quick response of system and compressibility of working fluid and. in particular, shock stress may occur due to an external load, resulting in fracture of a cylinder cap unless cushion device is equipped in the linear actuator. To avoid this, a cushion device should be installed for damping effect of the external load and the supply pressure as well as for decreasing shock stress and vibration caused by high speed rotation. Previous studies include dimensionless analyses and computer simulations of cushion capability and experiments of horizontally-mounted cylinder performances. A new attempt is experimentally made in this study using a vertically-mounted cylinder under an operation condition of 4, 5 and 6 (bar) as supply pressure and 40, 70 and 100 (kgf) as external load. It turns out that the cushion pressure is mainly a function of the external load rather than the supply pressure. The cushion characteristics was also revealed in the meter-in circuit.
