A dual-layer light guide plate (DLGP) was designed and a simulation was done to optimize the structure of the light guide plates used at backlight units while maintaining the luminance, uniformity and viewing angle by reducing the optical sheet. The characteristic of DLGP with prism pattern with curvature on the top surface is simulated and the luminance and uniformity are obtained. In order to improve the uniformity, the V groove prism pattern on the bottom surface was turned by an angle of $90^{\circ}$. In particular, we used the pitch calculation program to select the value of the ratio (Max : Min) between the pitch at the extreme outside and the pitch at the middle, the number of V groove lines and the variance at the bottom pattern of DLGP. After that, the optimum distance between V grooves was determined. For optimizing the DLGP, we examined the uniformity again by changing the number of pattern grooves on the bottom surface of DLGP. As a result of the simulation, we find that the BLU with DLGP has a uniformity of 90.6% and viewing angle $145^{\circ}$.

This paper presents the effects of the construction stages using time dependent material properties on the structural behaviour of concrete arch dams. For this purpose, a double curvature Type-5 arch dam suggested in "Arch Dams" symposium in England in 1968 is selected as a numerical example. Finite element models of Type-5 arch dam are modelled using SAP2000 program. Geometric nonlinearity is taken into consideration in the construction stage analysis using P-Delta plus large displacement criterion. In addition, the time dependent material strength variations and geometric variations are included in the analysis. Elasticity modulus, creep and shrinkage are computed for different stages of the construction process. In the construction stage analyses, a total of 64 construction stages are included. Each stage has generally $6000m^3$ concrete volume. Total duration is taken into account as 1280 days. Maximum total step and maximum iteration for each step are selected as 200 and 50, respectively. The structural behaviour of the arch dam at different construction stages has been examined. Two different finite element analyses cases are performed. In the first case, construction stages using time dependent material properties are considered. In the second case, only linear static analysis (not considered construction stages) is taken into account. Variation of the displacements and stresses are obtained from the both analyses. It is highlighted that construction stage analysis using time dependent material strength variations and geometric variations has an important effect on the structural behaviour of arch dams. The maximum longitudinal, transverse and vertical displacements obtained from construction stages and static analyses are 1.35 mm and 0 mm; -8.44 and 6.68 mm; -4.00 and -9.90 mm, respectively. In addition, vertical displacements increase from the base to crest of the dam for both analyses. The maximum S11, S22 and S33 stresses are obtained as 1.60MPa and 2.84MPa; 1.39MPa and 2.43MPa; 0.60MPa and 0.50MPa, respectively. The differences between maximum longitudinal, transverse, and vertical stresses obtained from construction stage and static analyses are 78%, 75%, and %17, respectively. On the other hand, there is averagely 12% difference between minimum stresses for all three directions.
The purpose of this study is to develop and apply spatial landslide information system using Geographic information system (GIS) in concerned with spatial data. Landslide locations detected from interpretation of aerial photo and field survey, and topographic , soil , forest , and geological maps of the study area, Yongin were collected and constructed into spatial database using GIS. As landslide occurrence factors, slope, aspect and curvature of topography were calculated from the topographic database. Texture, material, drainage and effective thickness of soil were extracted from the soil database, and type, age, diameter and density of wood were extracted from the forest database. Lithology was extracted from the geological database, and land use was classified from the Landsat TM satellite image. In addition, landslide damageable objects such as building, road, rail and other facility were extracted from the topographic database. Landslide susceptibility was analyzed using the landslide occurrence factors by probability, logistic regression and neural network methods. The spatial landslide information system was developed to retrieve the constructed GIS database and landslide susceptibility . The system was developed using Arc View script language(Avenue), and consisted of pull-down and icon menus for easy use. Also, the constructed database can be retrieved through Internet World Wide Web (WWW) using Internet GIS technology.
The purpose of this study was to examine the associations of head posture the position of the tongue or the hyoid bone to craniofacial structure. Cephalograms taken in Natural head position(NHP) of 90 dental students (50 in male, 40 in female, 20 to 30 years in age) were traced and measured using the extracranial true horizontal and vertical lines. The obtained results were as follows; 1. There was no sex difference in head posture, but the hyoid bone was placed anteroinferiorly in male more than in female and anteroinferior inclination of the hyoid bone showed greatly in male. 2. The more inclined was the cervical column, the less prognathic was the face in natural head posture, and the larger cervical curvature, the more vertical pattern of the face. 3. The less small showed craniocervical angulation, the more anteriorly placed was the hyoid bone to the cranial base, and there was no significantly association between craniocervical angulation and the vertical position of the hyoid bone. 4. The more prognathic was the mandible, the more anteriorly placed was the hyoid bone, and there was slightly association between the craniofacial morphology and the vertical position of the hyoid bone.
This study was designed to investigate the criteria of the perfect smile that was necessary to improve the esthetic problem in oral and maxillo-facial region and treating the anterior tooth region. The author took the facial straight photograph of 240 university students(male : 129, female : 111) in a resting and a smiling position, measured and analized the lip pattern and the relation between the lip and the teeth when they were smiling. Besides, 10 members of committee for appraisal (dentist : 5 persons, professor of the college of fine arts : 5 persons) estimated the smiling pattern. After that the author have compared and analyzed the obtained results. The results obtained were as follows : 1. In the shape of the upper lip, when the upper lip curved downward, it was 42.92% , straight was 45.00% and curved upward was 12.08%. The group in which the upper lip curved upward was the most esthetic. 2. In the relation between the upper lip and the teeth, high smile was 29.17%, average smile was 55.83% and low smile was 15.00%. The group of average smile was the most esthetic. 3. In the parallel relation between the lower lip and maxillary anterior incisal curvature, the group of paralled was 60.42%, the group of straight was 34.17% and the group of reverse was 5.41%. The group of parallel was the most esthetic. 4. In the relationship between maxillary anterior incisor and lower lip, the group of the maxillary anterior incisor were slightly covered by the lower lip was 10.42%, the group of the maxillary anterior teeth touched to the lower lip was 35.83%, and the no-touching was 53.75%. The group of the maxillary anterior teeth touched to the lower lip was the most esthetic. 5. In the teeth displayed in a smile, displayed to the canine was 0.84%, displayed to the first premolar was 19.17%, displayed to the second premolar was 57.92%, displayed to the first molar was 20.00% and displayed to the second molar was 2.08%. The group of displayed to the first molar was the most esthetic. 6. At smiles, the width of the mouth corner was 0.46 times of the full face width, 0.95 times of the interpupillary distance, and 1.23 times of the resting position. 7. At smiles, the lengh of the upper lip was 0.71 times and lower lip was 0.93 times of the length in the resting position.
Substituent effects of substrate and leaving group for the reaction of substituted ${\beta}$-phenylethyl arenesulfonates with pyridine were determined conductometrically in acetonitrile at 50∼70$^{\circ}$C. The substituent effect in substrate is not so significant than expected, but still the electron donating substituent shows the slight acceleration to give a small negative ${\rho}$ value and Hammett plots show slight curvature on the acting substituents, even though it is not so remarkable than that of benzyl system. These results represent a little bit the favorable bond breaking at the transition state by the electron donating substituents. The effects of leaving group in the arenesulfonates in which the rate constants are decreased by electron donating substituents, while electron withdrawing groups presented the reverse effects. Hammett ${\rho}$ value is significantly smaller than that of p-nitrobenzyl arenesulfonates and thus, the mechanism should be closer to tight $S_N2$ one. Especially 2,5-dichlorobenzenesulfonate was more accelerated than expected at the additivity of substituents. This facts showed that dichlorobenzenesulfonate anion is more stabilized by the great electron withdrawing substituents at transition state.

In this paper, the CAD data for the optimal shape design obtained by isogeometric shape optimization is directly used to fabricate the specimen by using 3D printer for the experimental validation. In a conventional finite element method, the geometric approximation inherent in the mesh leads to the accuracy issue in response analysis and design sensitivity analysis. Furthermore, in the finite element based shape optimization, subsequent communication with CAD description is required in the design optimization process, which results in the loss of optimal design information during the communication. Isogeometric analysis method employs the same NURBS basis functions and control points used in CAD systems, which enables to use exact geometrical properties like normal vector and curvature information in the response analysis and design sensitivity analysis procedure. Also, it vastly simplify the design modification of complex geometries without communicating with the CAD description of geometry during design optimization process. Therefore, the information of optimal design and material volume is exactly reflected to fabricate the specimen for experimental validation. Through the design optimization examples of elasticity problem, it is experimentally shown that the optimal design has higher stiffness than the initial design. Also, the experimental results match very well with the numerical results. Using a non-contact optical 3D deformation measuring system for strain distribution, it is shown that the stress concentration is significantly alleviated in the optimal design compared with the initial design.
Among the methods for enhancement of load-carrying capacity on flexural concrete member, recently, a concept is being investigated which replaces the steel in a conventional reinforced concrete member with a fiber reinforced polymer(FRP) shell. This study focuses on modeling of the structural behavior of concrete surrounded with FRP shells in flexural bending members. A numerical model of fiber cross-sectional analysis is proposed to predict the stress and deformation state of the FRP shell and concrete. The stress-strain relationship of concrete confined by a FRP shell is formulated to be based on the constitutive law of concrete in multi-axial compressive stress state, in assuming that the compression response is dependent on the radial expansion of the concrete. To describe the FRP shell behavior, equivalent orthotropic properties of in-plane behavior from classical lamination theory are used. The present model is validated to compare with the experiments of 4-point bending tests of FRP shell concrete beam, and has well predicted the moment-curvature relationships of the members, axial and hoop strains in the section, and the enhancement of confinement effect in concrete surrounded by FRP shell.
The external unbonded strengthening offers advantages in speed and simplicity of installation over other strengthening techniques. Unlike externally bonded steel plate or carbon fiber sheet, surface preparation of the concrete for installation of high-tension bar is not required and installation is not affected by environmental conditions. Anchoring pin or anchoring plate are installed at the end of beam to connect the high-tension bar to concrete beam. The deviator are used in order that supplementary external bars would follow the curvature of the tested beam. A set often laboratory tests on reinforced concrete beam strengthened using the technique are reported. The main test parameters are the section area of strengthening bar, the depth of deviator and the number of deviators. The paper provides a general description of structural behavior of beams strengthened using the technique. The test result of strengthened beam are compared with those from a reference specimen. It is shown that the reinforcing technique can provide greater strength enhancements to unstrengthened beam and that the provision of deviator enhances efficiency. The ultimate moment of specimen with two deviators was higher than that of specimens with one deviator. It is also shown that the external bars enhance strength of beams in shear.
This paper concerns the flexural behavior of steel fiber-reinforced ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) beams with compressive strength of 150 MPa. It presents experimental research results of hybrid steel fiber-reinforced UHPC beams with steel fiber content of 1.5% by volume and steel reinforcement ratio of less than 0.02. This study aims at investigating of compressive and tensile behavior of UHPC to perform a reasonable prediction for flexural capacity of UHPC beams. Tensile behavior modeling was performed using load-crack mouth opening displacement relationship obtained from bending test. The experimental results show that steel fiber-reinforced UHPC is in favor of cracking resistance and ductility of beams. The ductility indices range from 1.6 to 3.0, which means high ductility of hybrid steel fiber-reinforced UHPC. Test results and numerical analysis results for the moment-curvature relationship are compared. Though the numerical analysis results for the bending capacity of the UHPC beam without rebar is larger than test result, the overall comparative results show that the bending capacity of steel fiber-reinforced UHPC beams with compressive strength of 150 MPa can be predicted by using the established method in this paper.
