Decoupling of Thrust Force and Levitation Force of Transverse Flux Linear Induction Motor by the Active Compensation of Magnetic force across the Air-Gap (공극력의 능동적 보상을 통한 횡자속 선형 유도 구동기의 추력과 부상력의 비연성화)

  • TFLIM(Transverse Flux Linear Induction Motor), making its closed magnetic path with the direction of the traveling field orthogonal, had been developed to decrease an edge effect of the general induction motor. To control the levitation force and the thrust force on the secondary part of TFLIM independently, the various methodologies have been presented. When we try to achieve the independent control using only the multi-phase inputs assigned in the stator coils as an approach, in which condition we can minimize the coupling effect between two forces\ulcorner In this paper, we show the qualitative influence of a slip frequency, an ac magnitude, a dc offset superposed in the ac power, and a major parameter of TFLIM on the couple through the computer simulation. And to realize the independent motions between levitation and thrust motion without any auxiliary means fur isolation of the secondary part of TFLIM, the decouple compensator is suggested, including the experimental results.

AnActive Damping Scheme Based on a Second Order Resonant Integrator for LCL-Type Grid-Connected Converters

  • This paper proposes a novel active damping scheme to suppress LCL-filter resonance with only grid-current feedback control in grid-connected voltage-source converters. The idea comes from the concept of the model reference adaptive control (MRAC). A detailed theoretical derivation is given, and the effectiveness of this method is explained based on its physical nature. According to the control structure of this method, the active damping compensator, which is essentially a second order resonant integrator (SORI) filter, provides an effective solution to damp LCL resonance and to eliminate the need for additional sensors. Compared with extra feedback methods, the cost and complexity are reduced. A straightforward tuning procedure for the active damping method has been presented. A stability analysis is illustrated in the discrete domain while considering a one-step delay. Finally, experimental results are presented to validate the analysis and to demonstrate the good performance of the proposed method.

Fast FCS-MPC-Based SVPWM Method to Reduce Switching States of Multilevel Cascaded H-Bridge STATCOMs

  • Finite control set model-predictive control (FCS-MPC) has received increasing attentions due to its outstanding dynamic performance. It is being widely used in power converters and multilevel inverters. However, FCS-MPC requires a lot of calculations, especially for multilevel-cascaded H-bridge (CHB) static synchronous compensators (STATCOMs), since it has to take account of all the feasible voltage vectors of inverters. Hence, an improved five-segment space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) method based on the non-orthogonal static reference frames is proposed. The proposed SVPWM method has a lower number of switching states and requires fewer computations than the conventional method. As a result, it makes FCS-MPC more efficient for multilevel cascaded H-bridge STATCOMs. The partial cost function is adopted to sequentially solve for the reference current and capacitor voltage. The proposed FCS-MPC method can reduce the calculation burden of the FCS-MPC strategy, and reduce both the switching frequency and power losses. Simulation and experimental results validate the excellent performance of the proposed method when compared with the conventional approach.

  • This paper proposes a new dead time compensation method for a PWM inverter. Recently, PWM inverters are extensively used for industry applications, such as ac motor drives, distributed grid-connected systems and a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM). Nonlinear characteristics of the switch and the inverter dead time cause a current distortion and deterioration of power quality. The dominant harmonics in the output current are the $5^{th}$ and $7^{th}$ harmonics in the stationary frame, and the $6^{th}$ harmonics in the synchronous rotating frame. In this paper, a resonant controller which compensates the $6^{th}$ harmonics in the synchronous rotating frame is proposed. This method does not require any off-line experimental measurements, additional hardware and complicated mathematical computations. Furthermore, the proposed method is easy to implement and does not cause any stability problem.

  • The power quality of Single Phase Grid-Connected Inverters (GCIs) has received much attention with the increasing number of Distributed Generation (DG) systems. However, the performance of single phase GCIs get degraded due to several factors such as the grid voltage harmonics, the dead time effect, and the turn ON/OFF of the switches, which causes the harmonics at the output of GCIs. Therefore, it is not easy to satisfy the harmonic standards such as IEEE 519 and P1547 without the help of harmonic compensator. To meet the harmonic standards a certain kind of harmonic controller needs to be added to the current control loop to effectively mitigate the low order harmonics. In this paper, the harmonic compensation is performed using a novel robust harmonic compensation method based on Digital Lock-in Amplifier (DLA). In the proposed technique, DLAs are used to extract the amplitude and phase information of the harmonics from the output current and compensate it by using a simple PI controller in the feedforward manner. In order to show the superior performance of the proposed harmonic compensation technique, it is compared with those of conventional harmonic compensation methods in terms of the effectiveness of harmonic elimination, complexity, and implementation. The validity of the proposed harmonic compensation techniques for the single phase GCIs is verified through the experimental results with a 5kW single phase GCI. Analysis on the Effects of TRV and MOV in Real System with TCSC (TCSC가 적용된 실계통 시스템에서의 TRV와 MOV의 영향에 대한 분석)

  • The application of series compensator in a power system affects other devices such as circuit breakers transient recovery voltage (TRV) problem. In this paper, we analyze the TRV effect on a line circuit breaker in the cases with and without thyristor-controlled series capacitor (TCSC) via simulation, and suggest an effective method to overcome the increase of TRV due to the TCSC installation. It also discusses the impact of proposed protection on metal oxide varistor (MOV). A 345 kV transmission line in Korea was selected as a study case. Grid system was modelled using PSCAD (Power Systems Computer Aided Design) / EMTDC(Electro Magnetic Transient Direct Current). The TRV was analyzed by implementing a short circuit fault along the transmission line and at the breaker terminal. The proposed protection scheme, the TRV satisfies the standard. However, the MOV energy capacity increased as the delay time increased. This result can solve the TRV problem caused by the expected transmission line fault in a practical power system.

  • With the increasing demand for mobile devices featuring multi-touch operation, extensive research is being conducted on touch screen panel (TSP) Readout ICs (ROICs) that should possess low power consumption, compact chip size, and immunity to external noise. Therefore, this paper discusses capacitive touch sensors and their readout circuits, and it introduces research trends in various circuit designs that are robust against external noise sources. The recent state-of-the-art TSP ROICs have primarily focused on minimizing the impact of parasitic capacitance (Cp) caused by thin panel thickness. The large Cp can be effectively compensated using an area-efficient current compensator and Current Conveyor (CC), while a display noise reduction scheme utilizing a noise-antenna (NA) electrode significantly improves the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Based on these achievements, it is expected that future TSP ROICs will be capable of stable operation with thinner and flexible Touch Screen Panels (TSPs).

  • This paper presents exact autotransformer-fed AC electric railroad system modeling using constant current mode, and single-phase STATCOM(Static Synchronous Compensator) which has an effect on electric railroad system. An AC electric railroad is rapidly changing single-phase feeding electric power. To avoid voltage fluctuation under single phase loads, electric power should be received from a large source. The system modeling theory is based on the solution of algebraic. The AC electric railroad load model is nonlinear. Therefore this paper is considered nonlinear load using PSCAD/EMTDC. And the proposed modeling method is considered the line self-impedances and mutual-impedances that techniques for the AC electric railroad system modeling analysis, and that single-phase STATCOM can reliably compensate the voltage drop. In the case study, the allowance range of feeding voltage is 22.5∼27.5 kV, AT-fed AC electric railroad system circuit is analyzed by loop equation both normal and extension modes. The simulation objectives are to calculate the catenary and rail voltages with respect to ground, as the train moves along a section of line between two adjacent ATs. The results show that single-phase STATCOM can reduce the voltage drop in the feeding circuit and improve the power quality at AC electric railroad system by compensating the reactive power.

  • The purpose of this paper is to assess experimentally system stability of the 154[㎸]transmission system due to the current of the forthcoming AC High-Speed Railway (HSR) era. It introduces a simple method to evaluate the system stability. The proposed method also shows the relationship between stability and power losses, and the stability indices made by the numerical process proposed in this paper will be used to assess whether a system can be stabilized or not. This paper also presents the improvement of the stability via loss reduction using a shunt compensator. Reactive power compensation is often the most effective way to improve both power transfer capability and system stability. The suitable modeling of the traction power system should be applicable to the PSS/E. The proposed method is tested on a practical system which will be expected to accommodate the heavy HSR load.

Common Rail Pressure Control Algorithm for Passenger Car Diesel Engines Using Quantitative Feedback Theory (QFT를 이용한 디젤엔진의 커먼레일 압력 제어알고리즘 설계 연구)

  • This paper proposes a common rail pressure control algorithm for passenger car diesel engines. For handling the parameter-varying characteristics of common rail systems, the quantitative feedback theory (QFT) is applied to the design of a robust rail pressure control algorithm. The driving current of the pressure control valve and the common rail pressure are used as the input/output variables for the common rail system model. The model parameter uncertainty ranges are identified through experiments. Rail pressure controller requirements in terms of tracking performance, robust stability, and disturbance rejection are defined on a Nichols chart, and these requirements are fulfilled by designing a compensator and a prefilter in the QFT framework. The proposed common rail pressure control algorithm is validated through engine experiments. The experimental results show that the proposed rail pressure controller has a good degree of consistency under various operating conditions, and it successfully satisfies the requirements for reference tracking and disturbance rejection.
