  • The constant on-time current-mode controlled (COT-CMC) switching dc-dc converter is stable, with no subharmonic oscillation in its current loop when a voltage ripple in its outer voltage loop is ignored. However, when its output capacitance is small or its feedback gain is high, subharmonic oscillation may occur in a COT-CMC buck converter with a proportional-integral (PI) compensator. To investigate the subharmonic instability of COT-CMC buck converters with a PI compensator, an accurate reduced-order asynchronous-switching map model of a COT-CMC buck converter with a PI compensator is established. Based on this, the instability behaviors caused by output capacitance and feedback gain are investigated. Furthermore, an approximate instability condition is obtained and design-oriented stability boundaries in different circuit parameter spaces are yielded. The analysis results show that the instability of COT-CMC buck converters with a PI compensator is mainly affected by the output capacitance, output capacitor equivalent series resistance (ESR), feedback gain, current-sensing gain and constant on-time. The study results of this paper are helpful for the circuit parameter design of COT-CMC switching dc-dc converters. Experimental results are provided to verify the analysis results.

  • This paper presents a three-phase Line-Interactive uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system with series-parallel active power-line conditioning capabilities, using synchronous reference frame (SRF) based controller, which allows an effective power factor correction, source harmonic voltage compensation, load harmonic current suppression, and output voltage regulation. The three-phase UPS system consists of two active power compensator topologies. One is a series active compensator, which works as a voltage source in phase with the source voltage to have the sinusoidal source current and high power factor under the deviation and distortion of the source voltage. The other is a parallel active compensator which works as a conventional sinusoidal voltage source in phase with the source voltage, providing to the load a regulated and sinusoidal voltage with low THD (total harmonic distortion). The control algorithm using SRF method and the active power flow through the Line-interactive UPS systems are described and studied. The simulation and experimental results are depicted in this paper to show the effect of the proposed algorithm.

  • DSTATCOM(distribution static compensator) is one of the custom power devices, and protects a distribution line from unbalanced and harmonic current caused by non-linear and unbalanced loads. Researches about DSTATCOM are mainly divided two parts, one is the calculation of compensated current and the other part is the current control. This paper proposes a proportional-resonant-repetitive current controller. Improved performance of instantaneous power compensation has been shown by simulations and experiments.

  • This paper proposes a compensator to eliminate the DC bias of inductor current. This method utilizes an average-current sensing technique to detect the DC bias of inductor current. A small signal model of the DC bias compensation loop is derived. It is shown that the DC bias has a one-pole relationship with the duty cycle of the left side leading lag. By considering the pole produced by the dual active bridge (DAB) converter and the pole produced by the average-current sensing module, a one-pole-one-zero digital compensation method is given. By using this method, the DC bias is eliminated, and the stability of the compensation loop is ensured. The performance of the proposed compensator is verified with a 1.2-kW DAB converter prototype.

  • In the conventional current control methods for the current-type reactive power compensators, it is usual to compare the reactive reference current signal with the triangular wave and hence to generate the ON-OFF signals for the semiconductor reactive power compensator. To improve the response as well as the control capability, the delta modulated current control technique is proposed in this paper and studied theoretically.

  • In recent years, customers and power supplies are interested in power quality. Demands of customers are change from standard quality of distribution power system to various high quality of distribution power system. so, it is necessary to apply power quality compensator, in our project, we develop the power quality compensator of 150kVA which compensates power factor and voltage sag, interruption. it is very frequently occurred power qualify problems[1,2]. As a series and shunt compensator, power quality compensator consists of two inverters with common do link capacitor bank. It compensates the current quality in the shunt part and the voltage qualify in the series part. In this paper we present the design and control algorithm of power quality compensator. As a control algorithm is implemented by digital controller, we consider sample-and-hold of signals. In this simulation, we use EMTDC/PSCAD V3.0 software which can simulate instantaneous voltage and current.

  • This paper presents and analyses protection schemes for a series active compensator, which consists of a Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) or a hybrid active power filter. The proposed series active compensator operates as a high impedance "k(D)" for the fundamental components of the power frequency during over current conditions in the distribution system. Two control strategies are proposed in this paper. The first strategy detects the fundamental source current using the p-q theory. The second strategy detects the fundamental component of the load current in the Synchronous Reference Frame (SRF). When over currents occur in the power distribution system momentarily, the proposed schemes protect the series active compensator without the need for additional protection circuits, and achieves excellent transient response. The validity of the proposed protection schemes is investigated through simulation and compared with experimental results using a hybrid active power filter systems.

  • In this paper, a design and analysis of a gravity compensator which is a new device to reduce the joint torque of robots caused due to gravity is presented. Joints of all robots are loaded by large torques due to gravity. By applying the gravity compensator to the robot joints, the load torques applied to the robot joints are reduced by the repulsive force of the gravity compensator such that the size of the joint actuation motor can be reduced. In this paper, the structure and force relation of the gravity compensator are analyzed. The superior performance of the proposed gravity compensator is verified through experiments which measure the joint motor current caused by the load applied to the robot link.

  • In this paper a new series-parallel compensated uninterruptible power supply is proposed. Its series compensator shapes input current to sinusoid. The power handled by series compensator is only a quarter of ratings. And parallel compensator delivers sinusoidal voltage to nonlinear load. The parallel compensator is backedup with battery. This system has capabilities of power line conditioner and backup power with reduced size.

  • This paper proposes a new reactive-power compensator composed of a thyristor current-source inverter. The compensator consists of a 6-pulse thyristor bridge, dc reactor, and a commutation circuit. The commutation circuit offers the thyristor bridge to have PWM operation with minimal switching losses. The operation of proposed system was analyzed by computer simulations with EMTP and experimental works with hardware scaled-model. The proposed system would have low cost and easy expansion of operation voltage due to using the conventional thyristors.
