  • The optimum weight design of structure is to determine the combination of structural members which minimize the weight of structures and satisfy design conditions as well. Since most of loads and design variables considered in structural design have uncertain natures, the reliability-based optimization techniques need to be developed. The aim of this study is to estabilish the general algorithm for the minimum weight design of transmission tower structure system with reliability constraints. The sequential linear programming method is used to solve non-linear minimization problems, which converts original non-linear programming problems to sequential linear programming problems. The optimal solutions are produced for various reliability levels such as reliability levels inherent in current standard transmission tower cross-section and optimal transmission tower cross-section obtained with constraints of current design criteria as well as selected target reliability index. The optimal transmission towers satisfying reliability constraints sustain consistent reliability levels on all members. Consequently, more balanced optimum designs are accomplished with less structural weight than traditional designs dealing with deterministic design criteria.

  • First this paper introduces an advanced FADEC (Full Authority Digital Electric Control) for current and future jet engines. It is designed to realize not only stable thrust control, but also performance improvement, reliability enhancement, service life extension, etc. It can be built by using current micro-processor with high computational power and there exists no difficulties but reliability problem of the micro- processor. Next, the simulation results of SFC minimization control are shown. The target engine is a supersonic, low-bypass ratio, 2-spool, combined cycle turbofan, designated as HYPR90T, which consists of a turbo engine for under Mach 3 flight and a ram engine for over Mach 3 flight. he results can then be used for performance optimization of the engine, which plays important role in the advanced FADEC.

  • This paper presents the optimal design of a high-speed (200[km/h]) Linear Synchronous Motor which will be used as a propulsion system of a dynamic tester for catenary-current collection used in railways. Motor performance, especially detent force minimization on various design schemes has been investigated in detail by using FEM (Finite Element Method). Simulation-based DOE (Design of Experiments) method is also applied in order to reduce the large number of analysis according to each design variable and consider the effect among variables. The optimal design in all aspects is proposed by an optimization algorithm using a regression equation derived from the simulation-based DOE and the performance is verified by FEM.

  • This paper deals with the ripple reduction of the electromagnetic torque developed in IPMSM(Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor). Generally, torque ripple is an important causes of vibration and noise of motor. For reducing torque ripple in IPM with nonsinusoidal EMF, the optimal current which is able to control maximum torque/ampere is considered to be introduced In the proposed method. The fact of torque ripple being reduced when the optimal current Is used in motor is verified through simulation and experiment.

  • Linear pulse motor (LPM) has the vibration during the operation because of magnetic characteristic which is caused by the mechanical configuration and the electromagnetic property. This paper proposes the calculation of thrust on the base of magnetic equivalent circuit for the purpose of the vibration minimization of LPM. The permeance of LPM is calculated and simulated from the construction tooth. The thrust is compared with the analytical method, the 3D finite element method (FEM) and the experimental values. The vibration of LPM is measured and estimated to select the input current wave for an optimal operation condition.

  • This paper presents an improved current control strategy for a three-phase grid-connected inverter under distorted grid conditions. Distorted grid condition is undesirable due to negative effects such as power losses and heating problem in electrical equipments. To enhance the power quality of distributed generation systems under such a condition, a modulated finite control set - model predictive control (MFCS-MPC) scheme will be proposed, in which the optimal switching signals of inverter are chosen by online basis using the principle of current error minimization. In addition, the moving average filter (MAF) is used to improve the phase-lock loop in order to obtain the harmonic-free reference currents on the stationary frame. The usefulness of the proposed MFCS-MPC method is proved by the comparative simulation results under different operating conditions.

  • The proposed technical work attempts to compare the two key technologies of power distribution, i.e. direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) in a fiscal manner. The DC versus AC debate has been around since the earliest days of electric power. Here, at least four types of a low voltage DC (LVDC) distribution are examined as an alternative to the existing medium voltage AC (MVAC) distribution with an economic assessment technique for a project investment. Besides, the sensitivity analysis will be incorporated in the overall economic analysis model to cover uncertainties of the input data. A detailed feasibility study indicates that many of the common benefits claimed for an LVDC distribution will continue to grow more profoundly as it is foreseen to arise with the increased integration of renewable energy sources and the proliferation of energy storage associated with the enhanced utilization of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems.

  • This paper investigates control algorithms for a doubly fed induction generator(DFIG) with a back-to-back three-level neutral-point clamped voltage source converter in medium voltage wind power system under unbalanced grid conditions. Two different control algorithms to compensate for unbalanced conditions are proposed. Evaluation factors of control algorithm are fault ride-through(FRT) capability, efficiency, harmonic distortions and torque pulsation. Zero regulated negative sequence stator current control algorithm has the most effective performance concerning FRT capability and efficiency. Ripple-free control algorithm nullifies oscillation component of active power and reactive power. Ripple-free control algorithm shows the least harmonic distortions and torque pulsation. Combination of zero regulated negative sequence stator current and ripple-free control algorithm control algorithm depending on the operating requirements and depth of grid unbalance presents the most optimized performance factors under the generalized unbalanced operating conditions leading to high performance DFIG wind turbine system.

  • As in the measurement of ground resistance by using the 3 point fall-of-potential method, it is known that the distance of current electrode should be at the point of showing the plateu on the potential curve. But the problem is that it my be practically impossible to meet the condition in actual sites. For solving such a situation, this paper provides the least distance of current electrode according to the analysis for the test-field measurement showing that it is feasible to measure the ground resistance in the two in current electrode distance as the length of driven-rod type electrode and the some district length of mesh electrode.

  • This paper proposed an unified dual-phase-shift (UDPS) control for dual active bridge (DAB) converters in order to improve efficiency for a wide output power range. Different operating modes of UDPS are characterized with respect to the reactive current distribution. The proposed UDPS has the same output power capability with conventional phase-shift (CPS) method. Furthermore, its implementation is simple since only the change of the leading phase-shift direction is required for different operating power range. The proposed UDPS control can minimize both the inductor rms current and the circulating reactive current for various voltage conversion ratios and load conditions. The optimal phase-shift pairs for two bridges of DAB converter are derived with respect to the comprehensive reactive power loss model, including the reactive components delivered from the load and back to the source. Simulation and experimental results are illustrated and explained with details. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified in terms of reactive power losses minimization and efficiency improvement.
