In particular, the globalization culture acted as the catalyst to accept such diversity and it appeared as a new culture code, 'fusion' throughout society and culture. Especially, unlike two-hour movies, the recent drama $\lceil$Gung$\rfloor$ showed various fusion style costume over a period of three months and created a sensation of fusion style costume. Therefore, this study is aimed at investigating fusion style costume by selecting the TV drama $\lceil$Gung$\rfloor$ which was on the air in 2006. Based on preceding studies on fusion style, the elements of fusion style were analyzed by capturing the most frequently exposed heroine's costume, and new design development introducing fusion elements was attempted for empirical studies. The study results are as follows. First, it was found that the fusion trend is a culture code which already spread to the public and is shown in the fashion in various ways. Second, the drama $\lceil$Gung$\rfloor$, is commented as a new dram which introduced the fusion style costume into Korea through a modern version of constitutional monarchy and is commented as a medium which created an interest in the fusion costume among the public as well. • The purpose of this study is to systematically examine fusion phenomenon in the cultural aspect aiming to grasp the characteristics of fusion phenomenon, which has a steady impact on fashion trend. A reason for fusion to be noted as a cultural code is because diversely cultural interpretations are impossible from one viewpoint. Therefore, it is aimed to inquire into the characteristics of fusion culture, which is one phenomenon of newly mass culture, and to examine which cultural fusion phenomenon in modern fashion is being displayed in fashion design. First, the culturally fusion phenomenon, which was indicated in modern fashion, is displayed as repetition. The fusion, which integrates into fashion as a cultural code, is a trend of pursuing the experience with different culture. The needs of consumers are shown as fusion fashion that repeatedly uses the traditional detail and the modern detail through cultural repetition. Second, it is displayed as transformation. A concept of fusion is not the simple aggregate in [1+1=2], but the creation of new culture called [1+1=1]. In modern fashion, the cultures in the East and the West are harmoniously transformed, and through transformation, each culture is being compressively delivered. Third, it is displayed as interdependency. The fusion fashion which was newly re-interpreted while having reciprocal influence upon mutual culture, is re-interpreted by forming the equal relationship in heterogeneous elements without destroying fashion that was made previously.

  • Today a new culture called fusion has been forming. And it is spreading at an alarming rate in our society. When people talk about the character of Korean beauty and Korean culture, they speak taking pottery as an example. We can speak that the pottery is a core of culture which represent our people. And I think its pattern can be a good material for fusion. Also, among many Western artists, Mondrian is an unique painter who is to do with our culture. So, in this study, I chose the patterns described in Buncheong pottery and the Mondrian's works for the development of fusion textile design. Patterns expressed on Buncheong pottery are, for the most part, abstract patterns simplified the shape of object. And the Mondrian's works is the geometrical abstract painting be made by vertical and horizon. Using those I intend to develop the fusion textile designs which mixed Oriental culture and Western culture. Also, I intended to simulate them on ties and clothes and present the possibility of culture merchandise development. The reasons for doing so to let other peoples of the world, know about our excellent culture.

  • In this age of information ruled by new technologies and knowledge, the world is interconnected as a single community, and within this trend of globalization, new cultural codes are emerging through temporal fusion between the past and the present and spatial fusion between different regions and countries. In this situation, it seems meaningful to review Korean fusion foods and restaurants serving such foods, as well as to consider their future directions. Thus, the objective of the present study was to survey and analyze Korean fusion restaurants representing Korean culture not only in Korea, but also in foreign cities, and to identify the expression characteristics of such restaurants. Based on restaurants recommended in relevant magazines and on Internet sites, 18 spaces were selected, visited, and surveyed, in which tradition and modernism were well-mixed. Data on the shapes, materials, colors, and patterns of spatial elements and food-related elements, including photographs, were collected and analyzed. The results are as follows. Of the 18 restaurants, 13 (72%) showed temporal fusion in both spatial and food-related elements, 4 showed temporal fusion in spatial elements and cultural fusion in food-related elements, and 1 showed cultural fusion in both spatial and food-related elements. In general, the spaces were mainly designed with modern elements and partially with traditional elements (ceilings, windows, furniture, articles), and the fusion of food-related elements was made in diverse forms that included temporal fusion restructuring traditional menus contemporarily, and cultural fusion harmonizing traditional food with Western cookery.

  • The regenerative capacities of protoplasts isolated from potato (Solamum tuberosum L.) tubers and tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) mesophyll tissues were examined, and then their intergeneric protoplast fusion was carried out. The potato tuber-derived protoplasts proliferated into the calli some of which showed rudimentary shoot-like structures, which had not been attempted before from tubers, while the tobacco protoplasts were regenerated into the whole plants. Intergeneric protoplast fusion between potato and tobacco was carried out and the heteroplasmic fusion products were formed. The first cell division of some of them was observed after 5 days of culture.

  • In order to investigate the mechanism of myoblast fusion during muscle differentiation in culture, the effect of muscle-conditioned medium on the fusion was studied and possible release from cultured myoblast cells of proteins which may be responsible for the promotion of myoblast fusion was analyzed. The muscle-conditioned medium showed a marked fusion-promoting activity in a dose-dependent fashion. THis fusion-promoting activity of the muscle-conditioned medium appeared to be due to the accumulation of at least two proteins which were released from the myoblast into the culture medium. These released proteins were analyzed by electrophoresis and autoradiography and found to have molecular weights of 45,000 and 65,000.
