  • Wind flow perturbations, recirculations and turbulence generated by buildings often dominate air pollutant distributions around buildings. This paper describes dispersion of contaminants in the vicinity of a building by solving the concentration equation based on previously simulated wind flow field. Turbulence closure is achieved by using the standard k-ε two-equation model. The paper shows application of the CIP method for solving a species concentration equation of contaminant gas around a rectangular building for two different sources under conditions of neutral atmospheric stratification. Results have been compared to the experimental data and the previous numerical results by hybrid scheme. The computational results of concentration profiles by the CIP method agree well with experimental data.

  • A tornado changes its wind speed and direction rapidly; therefore, it is difficult to study the effects of a tornado on buildings in a wind tunnel. The status of the tornado-structure interaction and various models of the tornado wind field found in literature are surveyed. Three dimensional computer modeling work using the turbulence model based on large eddy simulation is presented. The effect of a tornado on a cubic building is considered for this study. The Navier-Stokes (NS) equations are approximated by finite difference method, and solved by an semi-implicit procedure. The force coefficients are plotted in time to study the effect of the Rankine combined vortex model. The tornado is made to translate at a $0^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$ angle, and the grid resolution is refined. Some flow visualizations are also reported to understand the flow behavior around the cube.

  • While a Study with regard to the measurement on Concrete Strength and the Change of Drying Shrinkage in accordace with Content Ratio of Crushed Stone Powder, it is being analyzed as the result that the strength according to Content Ratio of crushed Stone Powder is somewhat lowering. Accordingly, it is the real situation that the Concrete mixed with Crushed Stone Powder is utilized for non-structural material, not for the structural material. Therefore, this Research willing to furnish the suitable utilizing scheme for construction site as well as practical life by means of conduct the experiment on both Concrete Pressure Strength according to mixture with Crushed Stone Powder and Elastic Modulus, it also presumes the optimum Elastic Modulus Equation after analysis of comparison with common concrete strength. As the result of the experiment, in case of the Content Ratio of Crushed Stone Powder is less than 5%, it did not display a big difference in its both strength and matter-property compare with common concrete. In case of Elastic Modulus, when the Pressure Strength is 50% and 40% respectively, the Elastic Modulus Equation accords very well with the provided condition of Quadratic function, and as the result of the Presumption on Elastic Modulus according to Content of Crushed Stone Powder, in case the Pressure Strength is 50%, Elastic Modulus Equation showed that Error Ratio of Cubic function is at degree of 0.0005%, in case the Pressure Strength is 40%, Elastic Modulus Equation was accorded well with the value of the experimental data likely as the Error Ratio of Cubic function is at the degree around 0.0034%, respectively.

  • A three-dimensional flow simulation model for high flow concrete was developed using Incompressible Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (ISPH), which can solved Navier-Stokes equation with the assumption of a fluid to be incompressible. For the simulation, a computer program code for ISPH was implemented with MATALB programming code. A piecewise cubic spline function was used for the kernel function of ISPH. Projetion method was used to calculate the velocity and pressure of particles as a function of time. Fixed ghost particle was used for wall boundary condition. Free surface boundaries were determined by using virtual density of particles. In order to validate the model and the code, the simulation results of slump flow test, $T_{500}$ test and L-box test were compared with experimental ones. The simulation results were well matched with the experimental results. The simulation described successfully the characteristics of the flow phenomenon according to the change of the viscosity and yield stress of high flow concrete.

  • 1078 sets of mixtures in total that include fly ash, slag, and/or silica fume have been collected for prediction on concrete properties. A new database platform (Compos) has been developed, by which the stepwise multiple linear regression (SMLR) and BP artificial neural networks (BP ANNs) programs have been applied respectively to identify correlations between the concrete properties (strength, workability, and durability) and the dosage and/or quality of raw materials'. The results showed obvious nonlinear relations so that forecasting by using nonlinear method has clearly higher accuracy than using linear method. The forecasting accuracy rises along with the increasing of age and the prediction on cubic compressive strength have the best results, because the minimum average relative error (MARE) for 60-day cubic compressive strength was less than 8%. The precision for forecasting of concrete workability takes the second place in which the MARE is less than 15%. Forecasting on concrete durability has the lowest accuracy as its MARE has even reached 30%. These conclusions have been certified in a ready-mixed concrete plant that the synthesized MARE of 7-day/28-day strength and initial slump is less than 8%. The parameters of BP ANNs and its conformation have been discussed as well in this study.

  • Emissions of CO2 occur during the production of cement manufacturing process. During the production of clinker, limestone is mainly calcium carbonate, is heated to produce lime and CO2 as a by-product. It has a major problem, CO2 uptake is not considered in concrete carbonation, just focus in CO2 emission. This study is to develop a simulation model for CO2 uptakes in concrete structures based on carbonation reduction coefficient considering finishing materials. CO2 uptakes unit of concrete cubic meter is calculated by CO2 emissions unit of concrete materials and usage of concrete materials in mix proportion. From the simulation result, CO2 uptake ratios is 2.04 percent in carbonation models of concrete structure during 40 years.

  • In this paper, the structural performance of RC and HPFRCC slabs exposed to a TNT explosion were numerically investigated. A finite element model was established using the MM-ALE method in the LS-DYNA program to simulate a near-ground TNT explosion at a scaled distance of 1.08 m/kg3. The K&C model was calibrated to exactly reflect the material properties of HPFRCCs that were developed in KICT and KNU. Numerical and experimental results were compared for the damage distribution and failure shape of the slabs. Based on the verified numerical model, a parametric study was carried out to demonstrate the effects of compressive strength and thickness of the slab on the blast resistance. In particular, the spallation failure on the back side of the slab is greatly dependent on the thickness. Finally, additional numerical simulations were conducted to explore the variation in blast pressure characteristics according to the scaled distance and explosive shape. It was confirmed that the pressure induced by cubic TNT was more destructive to the slab than cylindrical and spherical TNT in a nearfield explosion.

  • Since the late 19th Century, modern architecture of definite figure and form shared similar concepts on space and from with the abstract art, pursuing the geometric purity and the abstraction. So the reductive approach had been taken in modern architecture as well as on modern art. The 1960 minimal art had experimented an extreme reduction with the cubic forms and the plane canvases, embodying so called minimal-art content, it was just another version of modernism art interpreted by the extreme reduction. The reduction is a characteristics of modernism adopted in every art field, including architecture. Not from the apparent, but from the essential quality of architectural form, figure and space resulting from the reductive approach, a building in this trend schould be judged and appreciated. In many aspects, Korean traditional architecture has been shown the characteristics of Minimal Architecture. With these points of view, this study analyzes characteristics of Korean traditional architecture with above contents through the form and space.
