Using a customized diffusion bonder, we executed diffusion bonding for ring shaped white gold and red gold samples (inner, outer diameter, and thickness were 15.7, 18.7, and 3.0 mm, respectively) at a temperature of $780^{\circ}C$ and applied pressure of 2300 N in a vacuum of $5{\times}10^{-2}$ torr for 180 seconds. Optical microscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) were used to investigate the microstructure and compositional changes. The mechanical properties were confirmed by Vickers hardness and shear strength tests. Optical microscopy and FE-SEM confirmed the uniform bonding interface, which was without defects such as micro pores. EDS mapping analysis confirmed that each gold alloy was 14K with the intended composition; Ni and Cu was included as coloring metals in the white and red gold alloys, respectively. The effective diffusion coefficient was estimated based on EDS line scanning. Individual values of Ni and Cu were $5.0{\times}10^{-8}cm^2/s$ and $8.9{\times}10^{-8}cm^2/s$, respectively. These values were as large as those of the melting points due to the accelerated diffusion in this customized diffusion bonder. Vickers hardness results showed that the hardness values of white gold and red gold were 127.83 and 103.04, respectively, due to solid solution strengthening. In addition, the value at the interface indicated no formation of intermetallic compound around the bonding interface. From the shear strength test, the sample was found not to be destroyed at up to 100,000 gf due to the high bonding strength. Therefore, these results confirm the successful diffusion bonding of 14K white-red golds with a diffusion bonder at a low temperature of $780^{\circ}C$ and a short processing time of 180 seconds.

Thus far, solders used in electronics remain lead-based. Pb-free solutions in electronic components and systems are receiving increased attention in the semiconductor and electronics industries. Pb-free materials currently in used are Sn-37Pb, Sn-4Ag and Sn-4Ag-0.5Cu/Ni plate joints. In this study, solder alloys were used at high temperatures for artificial aging processing that was performed at $150^{\circ}C$ for 0hr, 100hr, 200hr, 400hr, 600hr and 1000hr. The SP test was conducted at $30^{\circ}C$ and $50^{\circ}C$. As a result, the maximum shear strength of all the specimens decreased with the increase in artificial aging time and temperature of the SP test. In addition, Pb-free solders showed higher total fracture energy compared with Sn-37Pb at high temperatures. The mechanical properties of Sn-4Ag-0.5Cu solder/Ni plate joints remained in excellent conditions in electronic parking systems at high temperatures.
Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI) castings having various chemical composition and heat treatment conditions were investigated. Especially, this study was investigated the influence of various parameters on austempering temperature and alloying elements. The addition of Mo, Cu, and Ni individually or combined in these alloys also investigated. The alloying elements influence the austempering reaction, the microstructures, mechanical properties and amount of retained austenite. In this study, the mechanical properties (ultimate tensile strength(UTS), hardness, elongation) are analysed to show the relationship between alloying elements, austempering temperatures and amount of retained austenite. The amount of retained austenite was the range of 15 - 40%. In case of the alloy to witch Mo, Cu, and Ni was added, the amount of retained austenite was the largest at a constant austempering temperature.
The effects of alloying elements(Mo, Cu, Ni) and austempering temperature conditions on the microstructural morphologies and mechanical properties in austempered ductile cast iron has been investigated. The austempering at $350^{\circ}C$ for 2hrs after austenitizing at $900^{\circ}C$ for 2hrs in all specimens with various alloying elements was optimum because the good combination of tensile and yield strength, hardness and impact value was obtained. The microstructures of these ADIs treated by a forementioned austempering condition are nearly a mixture type of needle and feathery bainite. Among those alloys, Mo-Cu alloyed DCI had the best optimum mechanical properties of hardness and toughness for automobile parts by austempering treatment for 2hrs at $900^{\circ}C$ followed by $350^{\circ}C$ for 2hrs.
In commercial Zr-Nb-Cu-Ni-Al amorphous alloys, expensive element, Zr, was substituted to Sn which was cheaper one, and then, glass forming ability, compressive strength and hardness of them were estimated. Even though the Sn was added up to 1.5%, resulting phase was not changed to the crystalline form. It was confirmed by X-ray diffraction and thermal analyses. In the X-ray profiles, there were no peaks for crystalline phases and typical halo pattern for amorphous phase was appeared at the diffraction angle of $35^{\circ}{\sim}45^{\circ}$. Thermal analyses also showed that the Sn modified alloys were corresponded to the amorphous standards where ${\delta}T$(= Tx - Tg) and Trg(= Tg/Tm) affecting to the amorphous forming ability were more than 50K and 0.60 respectively. Compressive strengths were 1.77 GPa, 1.63 GPa, 1.65 GPa and 1.77 GPa for 0%Sn, 0.5%Sn, 1.0%Sn and 1.5%Sn respectively. Hardnesses of the Sn modified alloys were decreased from 752 Hv to 702 Hv in 1.0%Sn and recovered to 746 Hv in 1.5%Sn.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the comparison of physical properties of nonprecious metal alloys colored goldish yellow. The experimental groups were copper based dental alloy and control group was Ni-Cr based dental alloy used crown and bridges frameworks. Hardness was tested by vickers hardness tester, tensile strength was tested by universal tension tester. After testing the tensile strength of castings, the microstrucure and the pattern of fracture were investigated by scanning electron microscope and metallurgical microscope. The results were as follows : Hardness of Ni based alloy was higher than Cu based alloys. Hardness number of A group was 200.41$\pm$16.10 Hv, B group was 194.33$\pm$1.69 Hv, C group was 139.29$\pm$2.19 Hv and D group was 293.81$\pm$27.17 Hv, respectively. Tensile strength of D group was 56.42$\pm$6.17 $kg/m^2$, A group was 50.39$\pm$5.68 $kg/m^2$, C group was 45.13$\pm$4.53 $kg/m^2$, B group was 45.25$\pm$9.25 $kg/m^2$, in order, and D group was maximum tensile strength. The fractured surfaces of tensile specimens in the all groups showed the tendency to form large voids in the center of specimens. Thus the ductile fracture was changed into the brittle fracture with the fine grain size.
Printed wiring boards(PWBs) of the obsolete computers are composed of various organic and inorganic compounds as well as metals and alloys. As convinced that the valuable metals obtained from the PWBs are effectively utilized as secondary resources when recovered by economical methods, in this study, an investigation for characterizing the physical separation techniques is conducted. For the recovery of them, the sockets and chips dismantled from PWBs by scraping and residual resin boards are subjected to the appropriate separation processes according to the physical properties of each part. In the case of crushed socket scraps size ranged from -2.36 mm to +1.18 mm, approximately 97 wt% of the product obtained by magnetic separation consists of metallic compounds. In the case of chip scraps, 97% of Fe-Ni alloy and 95% of Cu metal are recovered by the combined process of air classification and dry magnetic separation in the size range from -2.36 mm to +0.15 mm. Ball milling is adopted in order to improve the removal efficiency of the thin-printed metallic materials on the residual resin boards and approximately 77% of Cu metal is recovered by zigzag separation after ball milling.

Brazing characteristics of the LTCC(Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramics)/ Kovar(Fe-Ni-Co alloy) was investigated. Kovar is one of the typical material for the lid of MCM and packages. In case of alumina package, Brazing process is done by higher temperature profile than 800 $^{\circ}C$ and Ag-Cu alloy. But, LTCC has sintering temperature near 850 $^{\circ}C$. So, it is difficult to use the same process as alumina brazing. The adhesion strength of the brazed part is affected by brazing alloy and metallization properties between conductor pattern and LTCC material. We investigated brazing characteristics of the LTCC/Kovar using various brazing alloys(Ag-Cu, Au-Sn) and process conditions. And, we examined the influence of the glass contents in conductor on the brazing characteristics of the LTCC/Kovar.
The thermal and mechanical properties of amorphous Z $r_{62-x}$N $i_{10}$C $u_{20}$A $l_{8}$$Ti_{x}$ (x=3, 6, 9at%) alloys were investigated. The crystallization process was confirmed as amorphous longrightarrow amorphous + Z $r_2$A $l_3$+ Zr + (Ni,Ti) longrightarrow Z $r_2$Cu + Al + (Ni,Ti) for 3at%Ti, amorphous longrightarrow amorphous + Al longrightarrow $Al_2$Ti + NiZr + CuTi for 6at%Ti and amorphous longrightarrow amorphous + Zr + Al longrightarrow Zr + $Al_2$Zr + Al $Ti_3$+ CuTi for 9at%Ti. lickers hardness ( $H_{v}$ ) increased with increasing volume fraction( $V_{f}$ ) of pricipitates for all concerned compositions. Tensile fracture strength ($\sigma_{f}$ ) showed a maximum value 1219MPa at $V_{f}$ = 38% for 3at%Ti, 1203MPa at $V_{f}$ = 2% for 6at%Ti and 1350MPa at $V_{f}$ = 5% for 9at%Ti. The $\sigma_{f}$ was rapidly decreased after showing the maximum value. The $V_{f}$ corresponding to rapidly decreased $\sigma_{f}$ coincided with the $V_{f}$ transited from ductile to brittle fracture surface.ace.
