  • The accuracy of the target localization was evaluated by conventional and spiral CT in stereotactic radiosurgerv. Conventional and spiral CT images were obtained with geometrical phantom, which was designed to produce exact three-dimensional coordinates of several objects within 0.1mm error range. Geometrical phantom was attached by BRW headframe, intermediate head ring, and CT localizer. Twentv-seven slices of conventional CT image were scanned at 3 mm slice thickness. Spiral CT images were scanned at 3 mm slice thickness from the pitch value 1 to 3, and twenty-seven slices of image were obtained per each the pitch value. These CT images were transferred to a treatment planning system(X-knife, Radionics) by ethernet, Three-dimensional coordinates of these images measured from the treatment planning system were compared to known values of geometrical phantom. The mean localization error of the target localization of conventional CT was 1.4mm. In case of spiral CT, the error of the target localization was within 1.6mm from the pitch value 1 to 1.3, but was more than 30mm above the pitch value 1.5. In conclusion, as the localization error of spiral CT was increased in high pitch value compared to conventional CT, the application of spiral CT will be with caution in stereotactic radiosurgery.

  • In this study, when diagnosis pancreatic cancer by dual time point PET/CT, we propose SUVm 2.52 as the threshold value for performing the dual time point PET/CT exam. The hypothesis of normal distribution was adopted through data conversion of 60 pancreatic diseases. The proposed SUVm2.52 boundary value showed a significance level that could be applied to both 120 and 180 minutes of delay time scan for pancreatic cancer determination (p<0.05). C-value variation shows that delay time 2 hour test is more useful than delay time 3 hour test. When the SUVm 2.52 is set to the boundary value and the double-time point PET/CT exam is performed, the probability of distinguishing cancer from inflammation in the delayed image is 95%. When the delayed test is performed with the proposed boundary value SUVm 2.52, Compared with general PET / CT scans, it is thought that it may be helpful to distinguish pancreatic cancer.

  • The propagation rate(da/dt) prediction parameter and the microstructure properties of creep crack in domestic 3.3NiCrMov steel were investigated at 550$\^{C}$ by using 0.5" CT specimen under constant load(4090N) and constant Ct(300∼4000N/mhr) condition that was maintained during crack growth of 1mm distance. C* usually increased with crack length though load was reduced in order to maintain constant Ct value as crack growth and considerably showed the scatter band, but Ct depended on load line displacement rate and represented a good relation with da/dt. At constant toad and Ct region, crack growth slope was 0.900 and 0.844 each, in the other hand C* slope was 0.480. Fully coalesced area(FCA) ahead of crack tip was increased as Ct value increase to the critical value, and after that value FCA decreased. The average diameter ditribution of cavity in FCA showed the greatest value about 1.5 ㎛ when Ct=2000N/mhr. The increasing of Ct in FCA view point enlarged the size of damage area and the size reached to maximum 800 ㎛ when Ct=2000N/mhr.

  • Purpose : To compare the CT numbers on 3 cone-beam CT (CBCT) images with those on multi-detector CT (MDCT) image using CT phantom and to develop linear regressive equations using CT numbers to material density for all the CT scanner each. Materials and Methods : Mini CT phantom comprised of five 1 inch thick cylindrical models with 1.125 inches diameter of materials with different densities (polyethylene, polystyrene, plastic water, nylon and acrylic) was used. It was scanned in 3 CBCTs (i-CAT, Alphard VEGA, Implagraphy SC) and 1 MDCT (Somatom Emotion). The images were saved as DICOM format and CT numbers were measured using OnDemand 3D. CT numbers obtained from CBCTs and MDCT images were compared and linear regression analysis was performed for the density, $\rho$ ($g/cm^3$), as the dependent variable in terms of the CT numbers obtained from CBCTs and MDCT images. Results : CT numbers on i-CAT and Implagraphy CBCT images were smaller than those on Somatom Emotion MDCT image (p<0.05). Linear relationship on a range of materials used for this study were $\rho$=0.001H+1.07 with $R^2$ value of 0.999 for Somatom Emotion, $\rho$=0.002H+1.09 with $R^2$ value of 0.991 for Alphard VEGA, $\rho$=0.001H+1.43 with $R^2$ value of 0.980 for i-CAT and $\rho$=0.001H+1.30 with $R^2$ value of 0.975 for Implagraphy. Conclusion: CT numbers on i-CAT and Implagraphy CBCT images were not same as those on Somatom Emotion MDCT image. The linear regressive equations to determine the density from the CT numbers with very high correlation coefficient were obtained on three CBCT and MDCT scan.

  • In this study, HU(hounsfield unit) value of CT generated by dental prosthesis was measured according to the type of metal when PET-CT was performed, and the degree of distortion and standard deviation of SUV(standard uptake value) and to propose a method to reduce errors in image reading. PET-CT was performed using actual teeth, metal crown, gold crown, titanium, and zirconia dental prosthesis. Compared with general teeth, the SUV value increased with increasing HU value. The SUV value of metal crown, titanium, and zirconia was increased by 37% and the gold crown increased by 45.4%. In addition, image distortions were small in general teeth, metal crown, titanium, and zirconia, but hard curing of the gold crown occurred and image distortion occurred. Therefore, since the metal type of the dental prosthesis affects the SUV value, the NAC(non attenuation correction) PET image of the dental prosthesis can be helpful in the diagnosis of the patient using the gold material.

  • Purpose: To compare the Appropriateness of abdominal CT to abdominal radiography as an imaging modality in terms of the diagnostic value, medical costs and decision making times for patients presented to the emergency department with nontraumatic abdominal pain. Methods: This study used the records of 530 cases presented to the emergency department(ED) with nontraumatic abdominal pain from February to March 2012. Imaging modalities were categorized into abdominal radiography and CT (radiography first or CT first) or radiography alone or CT alone. The diagnostic value, total medical costs and effect on decision making time of the each imaging modalities were compared. Especially, in retrospective review, to evaluate the predictability of the abdominal radiography, alit was assumed that all the 530 cases performed that exam as initial imaging. Results: Among 530 cases, 255 cases underwent abdominal radiography only, 28 cases underwent abdominal CT only and the remnant 247 cases underwent abdominal CT with plain abdominal radiography. The diagnostic value was higher in the cases with abdominal CT (268/275, 97.5%) than in the cases with plain abdominal radiography (19/255, 7.5%).The number of cases predicted by abdominal radiography only as initial imaging were 39/530 (7.4%). In cases where the patients performed the abdominal CT as the first imaging modality thereby omitting the abdominal radiography, the total diagnostic imaging fee was lower than in cases with plain abdominal radiography first followed by the abdominal CT (277,140 vs. 284,226(mean, Korean Won)). Although diagnostic value of the plain abdominal radiography as first imaging modality was lower than the abdominal CT, Decision making time, average duration of hospital stay was longer and the total medical costs was higher than abdominal CT. Conclusion: As an imaging modality in the ED for patients with acute nontraumatic abdominal pain, plain abdominal radiography is an avoidable procedure when viewed in terms of the diagnostic value and total medical costs and decision making times comparing with abdominal CT.

  • The creep crack growth properties in 3.3NiCrMoV steel were investigated at 55$0^{\circ}C$ by using CT specimen under constant load and constant Ct condition that was held during crack growth of Imm distance. Ct lelied on load line displacement rate, C*usually increased with crack length though load is reduced in order to maintain constant Ct value as crack growth and appeared scatter band. At constant load and Ct region, crack growth slope was 0.900 and 0.844 each, on the other hand C* slope was 0.480. Fully coalesced area(FCA) ahead of crack tip increased as Ct increase to the critical value, and after that value FCA decreased. For the tertiary creep stage of crack growth test, the most of displacement was due to the steady state creep, except only small part due to the primary creep and other effects. Therefore, tests were mainly interrupted in the tertiary stage to obtain high value of Ct.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the effective energy of CT X-ray beams by using the CT slice images of a CT number calibration insert part in the AAPM CT performance phantom. The CT number calibration insert part in the AAPM CT performance phantom was scanned five times by using a CT canner for 80, 100 and 120 kVp X-ray beams. The average value of CT numbers of each pin were measured for each CT slice image. The correlation coefficients were obtained by linear fit between the average value of CT numbers measured and liner attenuation coefficient under different energy at each pin calculated from data of NIST. A photon energy corresponding to the maximum value of the obtained correlation coefficient was determined as an effective energy. As a result, the effective energy was 56, 62 and 66~67 keV, respectively, for 80, 100 and 120 kVp X-ray beams.
