Radial variation of crystalline state in a stem of Chamaecyparis obtusa E. was examined by x-ray diffraction analyses. Relative crystallinity and degree of crystallite orientation showed significant differences between juvenile and adult wood. That is, Relative crystallinity increased with increasing the age from pith to about 20th annual ring, after which it reached a more or less constant value. On the other hand, degree of crystallite orientation decreased outward from pith to about 10 years and presented almost a constant value thereafter. Crystal width by Scherrer's equation did not show any significant differences between juvenile and adult wood. Therefore, it was considered that crystallinity index and degree of crystallite orientation by x-ray diffraction method could be used for evaluating wood quality.

This study was investigation of the change of fine structure of hemp cellulose at different growing stages. The samples collected about every eight day were divided into seven groups based on plants height, then they were numbered from 1 to 7 in the order of their height. For this, the degree of crystallinity, orientation and crystallite size were measured by wide angle X-ray diffraction method. The results of this experiment were summerized as follows ; 1) The degree of crystallinity was increased by growth of hemp celtilose to be maximum in sample 5$\~$6. At this stage, the stability of crystals was showed in good states. In addition to, crystallinity index by Segal, Turley and area method showed same tendency as Ruland's. 2) The change of orientation was gradually increased by growth of hemp cellulose. This result was correlated with the degree of crystallinity. Therefore, the change of orientation depend on the degree of crystallinity. 3) On the other hand, the crystallite size was decreased by growth of hemp cellulose. But, increased after sample 4. By the way, crystallite size was interrelated with growth rate.
Structural studies of series of 'as spun' and drawn PEEK fibers have been carried out using X-ray diffraction and optical microscopy techniques. The analysis of results suggest that fibers produced at a constant draw ratio with increasing draw temperatures show enhanced orientation and crystalline behaviour. The resolved equatorial and meridional traces provide additional structural parameters in terms of crystallinity, crystallite size, and crystallite thickness. It is concluded that drawing at a temperature below $T_g(i.e.,\;144^{\circ}C)$ results in poorly oriented non-crystalline materials, whereas drawing above $T_g$ results in highly oriented semi crystalline materials. Additional drawing proved to increase the overall orientation with slight improvements in lateral order of the chain molecules. Quantitative analysis revealed that the crystallite size increases with increasing drawing temperature. The results also revealed the increased crystallite size upon additional drawing. Crystalline orientation parameter, $_c$, suggests almost perfect orientation. In all cases, the amorphous orientation is found to be lower than the overall orientation parameter obtained from the optical birefringence. As a result of additional drawing, crystalline orientation was found to increase slightly but the increase in the orientation of non-crystalline material was found to be substantial. An average crystalline density was determined from the orthorhombic unit cell dimensions. It was found to vary as a result of processing conditions. It was also found that the value of the maximum birefringence shows heavy dependence on the chain conformation.

Effects of hydrogenation in amorphous silicon rile growths on Solid Phase Crystallization (SPC) was investigated using x-ray diffractometry, energy dispersive Spectroscopy, and Raman spectrum. Interdiffusion of barium(Ba) and aluminum(Al) compounds of corning substrate was observed in both of rf sputtering and LFCVD films under the low temperature(580$^{\circ}C$) annealing. Low degree of crystallinity resulted from the interdiffusion was obtained. Highly applicable degree of crystallinity was obtained through the mechanical damage induced surface activation on amorphous silicon films. X-ray diffraction intensity of (111) orientation was used to characterize the degree of crystallinity of SPC. Nucleation and growth rate in SPC could be controllable through the employed surface treatment. IIydrogenated LPCVD films showed the superior crystallinity to non-hydrogenated sputtering films. Insignificant effects of activation treatment in sputtered film was of activation treatment in sputtered film was observed on SPC.

Polypropylene films reinforced with multi-walled carbon nanotubes and exfoliated graphite nanoplatelets were fabricated by extrusion, and the effects of filler type and take-up speed on the mechanical properties and microstructure of composite films were investigated. Differential scanning calorimetry revealed that the addition of carbon nanomaterials resulted in increased degree of crystallinity. However, increasing the take-up speed reduced the degree of crystallinity, which indicates that tension-induced orientations of polymer chains and carbon nanomaterials and the loss of degree of crystallinity due to rapid cooling at high take-up speeds act as competing mechanisms. These observations were in good agreement with tensile properties, which are governed by the degree of crystallinity, where the C-grade exfoliated graphite nanoplatelet with a surface area of $750m^2/g$ showed the greatest reinforcing effect among all types of carbon nanomaterials used. Scanning electron microscopy was employed to observe the carbon nanomaterial dispersion and orientation, respectively.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the structural characteristics, mechanical properties, and stress-relaxation behavior of PET filament, which were prepared at various spinning speeds(1650, 3300, 4500, 5000, 5500, and 6000 m/min) and anneal(12$0^{\circ}C$, 20 min & 15$0^{\circ}C$, 40 min). In 4500 m/min of spinning speed the crystallinity, crystallite size, and degree of orientation of PET filament rapidly increased. By increasing spinning speed, the temperature dependence of stress-relaxation sharply decreased. Same results were obtained from heat-treated samples. As a result, activation energy for stress-relaxation increased with the crystallinity and spinning speed.
The IR crystallinity index of Calcium nitrate treated silk fiber decreased proportionally to the concentration of calcium nitrate. A partial change of conformation was observed in the concentration of over 46.4-47.6% changing from $\beta$-sheet or to random coil in the crystalline region. This is in coincidence with the result of crystallinity index, which was started to be reduced in the concentration range of 46.4-47.6%. A same trend was observed for the X-ray order factor, birefringence, degree of orientation and surface structure. These structural parameters were remarkably changed on the treatment of silk fibers with concentration of 46.4-17, 6% calcium nitrate. Therefore, it seems that there exists a critical concentration of calcium nitrate in affection the structure and morphology of silk fibers. According to the examination of surface morphology, the fine stripe was observed in the direction of fiber axis at 46.4% concentration. However, the treated concentration was exceeded by 47.6%, the cracks were appeared severely on the fiber surface in the transverse direction as well as fiber axis direction. This result might be related to the tensile properties, specially a tenacity of silk fibers. As a result of quantitative analysis of a dilute acid hydrolysis, three different regions, which are known as a amorphous, semi-crystalline and crystalline region, could be obtained. The hydrolysis rate curves were different with various concentrations of treatment and the relative contents of each region could be calculated.
The purpose of the study was to investigate the shrinkage and creep behavior of PET filaments which were prepared at various spinning speeds(3,300, 4,000, 5,000, 6,000, and 7,000m/min) and anneal($120^{\circ}$, 30min & $150^{\circ}$, 40min). In order to determine the shrinkage and creep behavior with the crystallinity change, PET filaments were treated with low(12$0^{\circ}C$, 30min) and high($150^{\circ}$, 40min) temperature conditions with hot air dryer under the constant tension. The results of the study were as follows: as the spinning speed increased, the degree of shrinkage and elongation of the sample treated by wet condition decreased. The sample with 0.01g/d of load under various spinning speeds showed shrinkage behavior and highest shrinkage ratio at $76^{\circ}$ which was Tg of PET. The degree of shrinkage and elongation of the treated sample was less than those of the untreated sample by wet treatment. Especially, there was less degree of shrinkage and elongation of the sample treated by higher temperature condition. In 3,300m/min of spinning speed the draw ratio of undrawn yarn of a mixture of a-axis orientation and c-axis orientation was 2.0, which is similar to the value of the traditional drawn yarn. Finally, there was a big range of shrinkage and elongation by wet treatment in 3,300 m/min of spinning speed.

The variety of crystalline structure and mechanical properties of PP filament treated with dry heat treatment at different draw ratio has been studied. Crystalline structure and mechanical properties of annealed PP filament at different draw ratio has been examined by XRD, UTM, and density method. Heat treatment has been carried out $100^{\circ}C$, $120^{\circ}C$$140^{\circ}C$ for 30min. in dry oven. From the results of this study, it found the following facts. It was found that the crystallinity and crystallite size of (110) plane of sample were increased with increasing of annealed temperature and draw ratio. The crystalline form of annealed sample which was undrawn showed ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ mixing form below $120^{\circ}C$ and showed ${\alpha}$ form at $140^{\circ}C$. But the crystalline form of annealed sample which was drawn showed ${\alpha}$ form at $120^{\circ}C$. Initial modulus and tensile strength were increased with increasing of annealing temperature, and the degree of orientation was decreased with decreasing of annealing temperature.
Morphology of polyester fiber was physically modified by solvent treatment. PET fiber was treated with N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) at 100, 120, $140^{circ}C$ for 10 minutes without tension. The structural changes in the morphology of DMF-induced modified PET fiber were FTIR and SEM analysis. Also dyeing behavior of DMF-treated polyester fibers with various disperse dyes was studied to detect changes of amorphous area in fine structure. DMF treatment resulted in increases in total void content, degree of crystallinity, trans isomer content, chain folding, segmental mobility and molecular packing, but it resulted in decreases in amorphous orientation, intermolecular forces and individual void size through longitudinal shrinkage, lateral welling and removal of oligomers. Void-size distribution could be estimated from the dye uptake with various sizes of disperse dyes. In contrast to the large increases in dye uptake with small dye molecules, there is no and little dye uptake with the bulkiest dye, which means that void size is bigger or smaller than the volume of each dye. Diffusion rates of dye molecules showed increases. This dyeing study revealed that the disperse dyeing is very effective method for characterizing the internal morphology of polyester fiber.
