Dynamic elastic local buckling of piles under impact loads

  • A dynamic elastic local buckling analysis is presented for a pile subjected to an axial impact load. The pile is assumed to be geometrically perfect. The interactions between the pile and the surrounding soil are taken into account. The interactions include the normal pressure and skin friction on the surface of the pile due to the resistance of the soil. The analysis also includes the influence of the propagation of stress waves through the length of the pile to the distance at which buckling is initiated and the mass of the pile. A perturbation technique is used to determine the critical buckling length and the associated critical time. As a special case, the explicit expression for the buckling length of a pile is obtained without considering soil resistance and compared with the one obtained for a column by means of an alternative method. Numerical results obtained show good agreement with the experimental results. The effects of the normal pressure and the skin friction due to the surrounding soil, self-weight, stiffness and geometric dimension of the cross section on the critical buckling length are discussed. The sudden change of buckling modes is further considered to show the 'snap-through' phenomenon occurring as a result of stress wave propagation.

  • The intelligent monitoring system has been successfully applied in many fields such as: monitoring of production lines, transportation, etc. Smart surveillance systems have been developed and proven effective in some specific areas such as monitoring of human activity, traffic, etc. Most of critical application monitoring systems involve object tracking as one of the key steps. However, task of tracking of moving object is not easy. In this paper, the authors propose a method to implement human object tracking in outdoor environment based on human features in shearlet domain. The proposed method uses shearlet transform which combines the human features with context-sensitiveness in order to improve the accuracy of human tracking. The proposed algorithm not only improves the edge accuracy, but also reduces wrong positions of the object between the frames. The authors validated the proposed method by calculating Euclidean distance and Mahalanobis distance values between centre of actual object and centre of tracked object, and it has been found that the proposed method gives better result than the other recent available methods.

  • With automobiles sharply increasing in numbers worldwide, we are faced with critical social issues such as traffic accidents, traffic jams, environmental pollution, and economic inefficiency. In response, research on ITS is promoted mainly by regions with advanced automotive industry such as the U.S., Europe, and Japan. While Korea is working on moving forward in the global market through developing and turning to global standards systems related to ASV (Advanced Safety Vehicle), the country is not fully prepared for such projects. The purpose of ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) is to control a vehicle's longitudinal speed and distance and minimize driver workload. Such a system should be valuable in preventing accidents, as it reduces driver workload in the 21st-century world of telematics created by development of the automobile culture industry. In this light, the thesis presents a method to test and evaluate ACC system and a mathematical method to assess distance. For the proposed test and evaluation, theoretical values are tested with vehicle test and a database is acquired, by using vehicles equipped with an ACC system. Theoretical evaluation criteria for developing ACC system may be used and scenario-specific evaluation methods may find useful application through testing the formula proposed by comparing the database and mathematical method.

철골 모멘트골조로 보강된 철근콘크리트 건물의 내진성능 평가 (Seismic Performance Evaluation of Non-Seismic Reinforced Concrete Buildings Strengthened by Perimeter Steel Moment Frame)

  • This paper is to investigate the retrofitting effect for a non-seismic reinforced concrete frame strengthened by perimeter steel moment frames with indirect integrity, which ameliorates the problems of the direct integrity method. To achieve this, first, full-scale tests were conducted to address the structural behavior of a two-story non-seismic reinforced concrete frame and a strengthened frame. The non-seismic frame showed a maximum strength of 185 kN because the flexural-shear failure at the bottom end of columns on the first floor was governed, and shear cracks were concentrated at the beam-column joints on the second floor. The strengthened frame possessed a maximum strength of 338 kN, which is more than 1.8 times that of the non-seismic specimen. A considerable decrease in the quantity of cracks for the strengthened frame was observed compared with the non-seismic frame, while there was the obvious appearance of the failure pattern due to the shear crack. The lateral-resisting capacity for the non-seismic bare frame and the strengthened frame may be determined per the specified shear strength of the reinforced columns in accordance with the distance to a critical section. The effective depth of the column may be referred to as the longitudinal length from the border between the column and the foundation. The proposed method had an error of about 2.2% for the non-seismic details and about 4.4% for the strengthened frame based on the closed results versus the experimental results.

  • 가상공간이 교수-학습 목적의 가능성을 인정받아감에 따라 가상원격교육체제에의 관심이 집중되고 있다. 2001년 3월 학위를 수여하는 원격대학의 정식개교를 앞두고 가상원격의 방법으로 진행되는 교육에 대한 기대가 팽배해 있는가 하면 동시에 그 교육의 질에 대한 우려가 강하게 제기되고 있는 것 또한 사실이다. 이에 본 연구는 교육의 새로운 환경으로 빠르게 성장해가고 있는 가상원격교육체제의 질을 총체적으로 관리, 평가할 수 있는 준거모형을 5개 영역으로 구분하여 개발, 제시해 보았다. 새롭게 부각되고 있는 가상원격교육체제의 질 관리를 위한 평가 준거의 정립은 매우 중요함에도 그 동안 새로운 체제를 평가할 수 있는 통합적 모형이 미비했음을 감안하면 가상원격교육체제의 평가에 이론적 기초가 되는 본 평가모형의 구안은 체제의 총체적 평가 및 질 관리에 유용한 지침을 제공해 줄 것으로 판단된다.

  • 모드 동기된 아르곤 이온 레이저를 여기광원으로 사용한 시간상관 단일 광자 계수장치를 이용하여 에탄올 용액 내에서 Rhodamine 6G에서 Rhodamine B로의 에너지 전달에 관하여 연구하였다. 측정된 형광 소멸 곡선은 본 실험실에서 개발한 full-fit program으로 deconvolution 하여 reduced concentration 과 critical transfer distance를 구했다. donor 의 농도가 acceptor의 농도보다 작을 경우에는 Foster 모델이 클 경우에는 Huber 모델이 잘 맞음을 확인하였다.

딥 러닝 회귀 모델 기반의 TSOM 계측 (A Through-focus Scanning Optical Microscopy Dimensional Measurement Method based on a Deep-learning Regression Model)

  • The deep-learning-based measurement method with the through-focus scanning optical microscopy (TSOM) estimated the size of the object using the classification. However, the measurement performance of the method depends on the number of subdivided classes, and it is practically difficult to prepare data at regular intervals for training each class. We propose an approach to measure the size of an object in the TSOM image using the deep-learning regression model instead of using classification. We attempted our proposed method to estimate the top critical dimension (TCD) of through silicon via (TSV) holes with 2461 TSOM images and the results were compared with the existing method. As a result of our experiment, the average measurement error of our method was within 30 nm (1σ) which is 1/13.5 of the sampling distance of the applied microscope. Measurement errors decreased by 31% compared to the classification result. This result proves that the proposed method is more effective and practical than the classification method.

  • 무선 센서 네트워크 기술은 빠르게 발전하고 있으며, 다양한 산업 분야에서 적용이 가능하다. 무선 센서 네트워크는 그 특성상 한 번 배포되면 배터리의 교환이 어렵기 때문에 에너지를 효율적으로 사용하도록 설계되는 것이 매우 중요하다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 에너지 효율적인 라우팅 프로토콜에 대한 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 센서 네트워크에서 에너지 소비는 전송거리와 보내고자 하는 데이터에 비례한다. LEACH-C와 같은 클러스터 기반라우팅 기법들은 센서 노드들의 클러스터링을 통하여 데이터 전달 거리를 최소화시킴으로서 에너지의 효율성을 얻는다. 하지만 LEACH-C에서는 클러스터링을 구성할 때 클러스터 구성 노드들의 거리 총합만을 고려한다. 본 논문에서는 에너지 사용에 큰 영향을 미치는 기지국과 클러스터 헤드간의 거리를 고려한 클러스터 헤드 선택 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안 방법은 LEACH-C에 비해 기지국의 위치가 일정 거리 이상 떨어져 있을 경우평균$4{\sim}7%$의 성능 향상 결과를 제공하였다. 이 결과는 클러스터 기반 라우팅 알고리즘에서 클러스터 헤드와 기지국간의 거리를 고려하는 것이 라이프타임 성능 측면에 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 보여 주었다.

Relationship Between the Number of Hip Abduction Performance With Contralateral Adduction in Side-lying and the Lateral Pelvic Shift Distance During One-leg Lifting

  • Background: The gluteus medius (Gmed) plays a critical role in maintaining frontal plane stability of the pelvis during functional activities, such as one-leg lifting. Side-lying hip abduction (SHA) has been used as a dynamic test to evaluate Gmed function. However, the abduction force of the lower leg against the floor is not controlled during SHA. Therefore, hip abduction performance with contralateral adduction in the side-lying position (HAPCA) can be proposed as an alternative method to assess performance of hip abduction. If the number of HAPCA is related to the lateral pelvic shift distance, a new quantitative measurement for hip abductor function may be presented. Objects: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the number of successful HAPCA and the lateral pelvic shift distance during one-leg lifting. Methods: Thirty healthy participants were recruited, and lateral pelvic shift distance was measured during one-leg lifting test using two-dimensional analysis. The number of successful HAPCA was counted when participants touched both target bars at the beat of a metronome. Results: There was a negative correlation between the number of HAPCA and lateral pelvic shift distance during one-leg lifting (r = -0.630, p < 0.05). The number of HAPCA accounted for 39.7% of the variance in the lateral pelvic shift distance during one-leg lifting (F = 18.454, p < 0.001). Conclusion: The number of successful HAPCA is significantly correlated with lateral pelvic shift distance during one-leg lifting. This finding suggests that HAPCA can be proposed as a new measurement for hip abductor performance and more research is needed on its relationship with hip abductor strength.

유한요소해석을 활용한 비틀림 제어 확장앵커의 비선형 인장거동 특성 분석 (Nonlinear Tensile Behavior Analysis of Torque-controlled Expansion Anchors Using Finite Element Analysis)

  • 콘크리트용 앵커볼트는 콘크리트 구조물에 대한 비구조요소의 정착에 주로 사용되고 있으며, 시공성의 이점에 따라 후설치앵커가 주로 사용되고 있다. 앵커의 저항 성능과 관련하여 콘크리트 쪼개짐 영향을 최소화하기 위한 위험 연단거리가 제시되고 있지만 실제 앵커의 경우 이상적인 연단거리를 확보하기 어렵다. 즉, 인장 하중에 따라 발생 가능한 콘크리트 쪼개짐 등 복합적인 요소가 포함된 앵커의 저항 성능과 인장 거동 특성을 파악하기 위함이 본 연구의 목적이다. 표준시험방법을 바탕으로 인장실험을 진행하고 도출된 하중-변위 결과 및 파괴 형상을 분석하였다. 위험 연단거리가 확보되지 않은 앵커의 경우 인장력에 의해 콘크리트 쪼갬 파괴가 동반된 파괴 모드가 도출되고 저항 특성은 강성 구간으로 분류된다. 또한, 실험체 구성 요소를 바탕으로 비선형 유한요소모델을 구성하였으며, 앵커 거동을 모사하기 위해 구속 조건 및 연결요소 조건에 따른 경계조건별 변수 해석을 수행하였다. 이에 따라 도출된 해석 결과는 콘크리트 내부 파괴 영향성 및 실제 앵커의 거동을 바탕으로 검증하여 범용구조해석 프로그램 내 경계조건을 통한 저항 메커니즘 적용이 가능한 것으로 판단된다.
