  • This paper studies on dynamic and stability behavior of a clamped-elastically restrained nanobeam under the action of a nonconservative force with an emphasis on the influence of surface properties on divergence and flutter instability. Using the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory incorporating surface effects, a governing equation for a clamped-elastically restrained nanobeam is derived according to Hamilton's principle. The characteristic equation is obtained explicitly and the force-frequency interaction curves are displayed to show the influence of the surface effects, spring stiffness of the elastic restraint end on critical loads including divergence and flutter loads. Divergence and flutter instability transition is analyzed. Euler buckling and stability of Beck's column are some special cases of the present at macroscale.

  • The behaviour of an unsaturated soil was analyzed by performing $K_0$ consolidated triaxial tests. Unsaturated triaxial tests were performed with matric suctions for weathered soils and could catch stress paths under consolidation and stress-strain relationships under shear. As a result, both isotropic and $K_0$ conditions had similar shear strength envelopes in the same matric suction. Especially, strength parameters could obtain by stress variables based on critical state theory reasonably which was better than those by Mohr circles at failure.

  • The Purpose of this study is working out of the scientific-theoretical and practical recommendations directed on perfection of strategic planning of development of the enterprises of mining and gold mining branch. The methodological basis of research is based on the economic theory developed by a domestic and foreign science. At processing, generalisation and a writing of materials of the master's thesis following methods were applied: - supervision, - comparison, - the analysis and synthesis, - methods of an induction and deduction, - statistical groupings, - average and relative sizes, - the system approach. Finally, the theoretical and practical importance of this research consists that results of research will allow generating a basis of statement of effective system of strategic planning of a long-term sustainable development of the gold mining enterprises reducing risk of acceptance of inefficient strategic decisions. I would like to express many thanks to the NGO "Semey- My Home" and "EastGeoResources" LLP for their help and support in providing the data collection and data analysis stages of my research from 2006.

  • This essay is an attempt to give a theoretical articulation of novelistic mimesis as the narrative form of modernity. With the passage to modernity, what assumes the locus of the symbolic authority is no longer God, Father, or tradition, but the cultural gaze or the ego-ideal. At the same time, this gaze paradoxically coalesces with the "spectacle of the world," on the side of the reified "other": the gaze is both the desexualized ego-ideal and its instantaneous transmogrification and resexualization in the opaque world of objects. The imaginary ego or the eye on the side of the subject of representation is held at abeyance in a state of perpetual fascination and desperation in relation to the gaze as the world of "others," which lies always at one remove from the purview of the imaginary ego. This understanding of the inadequation of the ego to the cultural gaze of the reified world provides a critical fulcrum upon which I base my theory of the modern narrative mimesis as the "perverse" field of spatial arrangement, in which the split of the subjectivity into the imaginary ego and the ego-ideal is suspended over the phantasmatic world of bodies and territories.

  • This paper discusses awareness of institutional repositories and open access publishing among faculty members in Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu, India. The authors distributed 200 questionnaires among the faculty members in Annamalai University. Out of 200 questionnaires, 160 responses (80.00%) were received from faculty members. The respondents mentioned the motivating factors while using an institutional repository and indicated the benefits, constraints and strategies to develop open access in publications. It is evident from the table that more than 95% among the average of the faculty members confirm the benefits of open access in publications. 150 (93.75%) of faculty members have awareness, 6 (3.75%) have no idea and 4 (2.50%) state no opinion about awareness of institutional repository and open access publishing.

  • Upon melting, a part of ethylene-chloride molecules in trans-form in the solid state changes into gauche-form. The partition function for the material was developed according to the significant structure theory of liquid proposed by H. Eyring and his co-workers, and the parameters $E_s$, ${\theta}$, $V_s$, and a, therein, are determined by the manner developed by Chang, et al. The molar volume, vapor pressure, vaporization entropy, critical point properties and surface tension of the liquid were calculated. The results are in good agreement with experimental values.

  • In this paper, a new structural health monitoring technique for composite laminates through the use of embedded fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors is presented. The method traces the ply stress states of a laminate and compares them with failure criteria during the service time of structures. The ply stress state of every ply composing the composite laminate can be obtained using classical lamination theory by embedded FBG sensors in the laminate. Graphite/epoxy laminate specimens, embedded with three FBG sensors, were fabricated. Tension tests were performed to evaluate the ply stress states tracing technique. Experimental results show that laminates experience fracture when the ply stress states are over the boundaries of failure criteria. In this method, critical damage can be detected by the ply stress states which are close to the boundaries of the failure criteria.

  • The paper studies the effect of neighboring blade rows on flutter characteristics of cascading blades. For this purpose the computation program to calculate the unsteady blade loading based on the un-steady lifting surface theory for contra-rotating annular cascades was formulated and coded. Then a computation program to solve the coupled bending-torsion flutter equation for the contra-rotating annular cascades was also developed. Some results of the flutter analysis are presented. The presence of the neighboring blade row gives rise to significant change in the critical flutter condition when the main acoustic duct mode is of cut-on state.

  • Computational accuracy of the modified Borresen's coarse-mesh diffusion theory scheme is investigated with the steady-state solutions of the two- and three-dimensional LRA-BWR bench-mark problem. By comparing the numerical results available for the critical eigenvalue and power distribution of the LRA-BWR, it is shown that the modified scheme is capable of predicting the power distribution of the multi-dimensional BWR problem with an improved accuracy.

  • Generally, natural soils are affected by one-dimensional consolidation so that the behavior characteristic could be somewhat different from the isotropic consolidation specimen. But, due to experimental difficulties and the lack of equipment, the isotropic triaxial tests are mainly performed in most lab. tests. So it seems to be very effective if it is possible to predict pore water pressure and undrained shear strength in the $K_o$ state as the results of isotropic triaxial consolidation test. In this study, isotropic triaxial consolidation test and $K_o$ triaxial consolidation test were performed and we obtained parameters related to pore water pressure ratio using the Hyperbolic model. And then we predicted the behavior of pore water pressure that occurred in the $K_o$ state from the results obtained in the isotropic triaxial cosolidation test through the equation suggested by Lo(1969). It is possible to seize the validity of Lo(1969) equation. Also, considering undrained shear strength obtained from consolidation method in relation with water content, we find that consolidation method have an effect on undrained shear strength. Finally, using the Wroth(1984) equation that is based on the theory of critical state, undrained shear strength in the $K_o$ state was predicted from that of the isotropic triaxial consolidation test. The usefulness of the equation was verified by comparing the predicted value with experimental results.
