An experimental study of heat transfer characteristics near the critical pressure has been performed with an internally-heated vertical annular channel cooled by R-134a fluid. Two series of tests have been completed: (a) steady-state critical heat flux (CHF) tests, and (b) heat transfer tests for pressure reduction transients through the critical pressure. In the present experimental range, the steady-state CHF decreases with increase of the system pressure for fixed inlet mass flux and subcooling. The CHF falls sharply at about 3.8 MPa and shows a trend towards converging to zero as the pressure approaches the critical point of 4.059 MPa. The CHF phenomenon near the critical pressure does not lead to an abrupt temperature rise of the heated wall, because the CHF occurs at remarkably low power levels. In the pressure reduction transients, as soon as the pressure passes below the critical pressure from the supercritical pressure, the wall temperatures rise rapidly up to very high values due to the departure from nucleate boiling. The wall temperature reaches a maximum at the saturation point of the outlet temperature, and then tends to decrease gradually.

This experiment was conducted to know the characteristics of kernel growth as affected by various temperature regimes during grain filling using the varieties Hwaseongbyeo, Ilpumbyeo and Chucheongbyeo. The rice plants tested were grown in the natural condition at 1/5000a Wagner pots until flowering. After flowering, the rice plants were moved to controlled temperature conditions in a phytotron. The minimum/maximum daily temperature in the phytotron was controlled by 12/18, 15/21, 18/24, 21/27, and 24/$30^{\circ}C$, respectively. The grain weights were measured every three days after treatment. The mean daily kernel growth rate during active grain filling period showed different responses among varieties under various temperature regimes. The kernel growth rate of Chucheongbyeo was seriously reduced as temperature regimes were decreased. However, that of Ilpumbyeo was not influenced so critically. Ilpumbyeo showed some advantages in grain filling under low temperature regimes compared to Chucheongbyeo. The lag phase in grain filling of Chucheongbyeo was the longest among tested varieties, followed by Hwaseongbyeo under daily mean temperature regime of $15^{\circ}C$. Kernel weight of Ilpumbyeo increased fast in early grain filling phase under low temperature. This characteristic may be favorable for grain filling in temperate zone where the daily mean temperature is drastically dropped during grain filling period. Regression analysis with kernel growth rate and temperature showed the estimated critical low temperature for grain filling among varieties were $9^{\circ}C$, $12^{\circ}C$, $13^{\circ}C$ in Ilpumbyeo, Hwaseongbyeo and Chucheongbyeo, respectively. Under moderate temperature the duration of grain filling of Ilpumbyeo was longer than that of Chucheongbyeo. However, Under low temperature that of Ilpumbyeo was more favorable than Chucheongbyeo.
Amorphous semiconductor from As 30 Te 48 Ge 10 Si 12 was prepared, and studied electron microscopy, X-ray analysis and resistivity measurement. It's resistivity is 1.56*10$^{6}$ .ohm.-cm when small ampule is used for preparing sample it is found that no phase separation has occurced by electron microscopy, and that phase transition temperature is 232.deg. C by differential Thermal Analysis. The specimen showed threshold switching that the low resistance state occur at critical electric field and the resistance recover at low applied field. Critical electric field of the switching is 10$^{5}$ V/cm at room temperature. Threshold voltage secreace exponentially with increasing ambient temperature and at that each voltage resistance of the switching device increase exponentially. According to the series resistance and applied vottage current slope on the V-I curve is varied. When applied voltage is decreased after switching, the resistance of the switching device is increased. By this result the origin of the switching is the Joule's heating.
Vanadium dioxide (VO2) is a well-known material that undergoes insulator-to-metal phase transition near room temperature. Since the conductivity of VO2 changes several orders of magnitude in the terahertz (THz) spectral range during the phase transition, VO2-based active metamaterials have been extensively studied. Experimentally, it is reported that the metal nanostructures on the VO2 thin film lowers the critical temperature significantly compared to the bare film. Here, we theoretically studied such early transition phenomena by developing an analytical model. Unlike experimental work that only measures transmission, we calculate the reflection and absorption and demonstrate that the role of absorption is quite different for bare and patterned samples; the absorption gradually increases for bare film during the phase transition, while an absorption peak is observed at the critical temperature for the metamaterials. In addition, we also discuss the gap width and VO2 thickness effects on the transition temperatures.
The principal objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of temperature and salt concentration on the physicochemical properties of salted Chinese cabbage. Salted Chinese cabbage samples were prepared with various concentrations of salt(4, 5, 6 and 7%), and were stored for 10 days at three temperatures(8, 14, and $25^{\circ}C$). The salting ratio of Chinese cabbage evidenced a decreasing trend regardless of the salting temperature and salt concentration, and their decrement appeared relatively high as the salting temperature increased. The period required to achieve a critical salting ratio(85%) decreased with increases in the salt concentration at $25^{\circ}C$, and a similar trend was observed at lower temperatures(8 and $14^{\circ}C$). The salinity of all samples evidenced an increasing trend during the salting period, and at $25^{\circ}C$, in particular, a continuous increment was observed. At salt concentrations of 4%, the critical salinity(2.2%) was not achieved regardless of the temperature and salting period. The pH of salted Chinese cabbage achieved critical pH in 3 days at a salting temperature of $25^{\circ}C$, but the critical pH 5.5 of samples at 8 and $14^{\circ}C$ appeared after a long period of approximately 4 to 10 days. The average hardness values of salted Chinese cabbage at a salting ratio of 85% were approximately 1.49 MPa, 1.87 MPa, and 1.97 MPa, respectively, at three temperatures($25^{\circ}C$, $14^{\circ}C$, and $8^{\circ}C$). The initial reducing sugar content of cabbage juice was 11.8 mg/$m{\ell}$, and this value decreased substantially to 3 to 5 mg/$m{\ell}$ on day 1.

The AC loss is an important issue in the design of the high temperature superconductor (HTS) power cables and fault current limiters. In these applications, a cylindrical HTS conductor is often used. In commercialization of these apparatuses, AC loss is a critical factor but not elucidated completely because of complexities in its measurement, e.g. non-uniform current distribution and phase difference between currents flowing in an individual HTS tape. We have prepared two cylindrical conductors composed of a Bi-2223 tape with different critical current density. In this paper, the AC loss characteristics of the conductors have been experimentally investigated and numerically analyzed. The result show that the measured losses for two conductors are not dependent on both arrangements and contact positions of a voltage lead. This implies that most of loss flux is only in the conductors. The loss for the Bi-2223 conductor with low critical current density is in good agreement with the calculated loss from Monoblock model, whereas the loss measured for the Bi-2223 conductor with high critical current density doesn't coincide with the loss calculated from the Monoblock model. The measured loss is also different from numerically calculated one based on the polygon model especially in low transport current.

In order to realize economical applications, it is important to reduce the ac loss of 2G high-temperature superconductor coated conductors. It seems to be reasonable that a multi-filamentary wire can decrease the magnetization loss. In this study, we prepared two samples of YBCO coated conductors with striations. We measured local superconducting properties of both samples by using Low Temperature Scanning Laser and Hall Probe Microscopy (LTSLHPM). The distribution of the local critical temperature of samples was analyzed from experimental results of Low Temperature Scanning Laser Microscopy (LTSLM) near the superconducting transition temperature. According to LTSLM results, spatial distributions of the local critical temperature of both samples are homogeneous. The local current density and the local magnetization in samples were explored from measuring stray fields by using Scanning Hall Probe Microscopy (SHPM). From SHPM results, the remanent field pattern of the one bridge sample in an external magnetic field confirms the Bean's critical state model and the three bridge sample has similar remanent field pattern of the one bridge sample. The local magnetization curve in the three bridge sample was measured from external fields from -500 Oe to 500 Oe. We visualized that the distribution of local hysteresis loss are related in the distribution of the remanent field of the three bridge sample. Although the field dependence of the critical current density must be taken into account, the relation of the local hysteresis loss and the remanent field from Bean's model was useful.

Frictional heating in brakes causes thermoelastic distortion of the contacting bodies and hence affects the contact pressure distribution. The resulting thermo-mechanical coupling can cause thermoelastic instability (TEI) if the sliding speed is sufficiently high, leading to non-uniform heating called hot spots and low frequency vibration known as hot judder. The vibration of brakes to the known phenomenon of frictionally-excited thermoelastic instability is estimated studying the interface temperature and pressure evolution with time. A simple model has been considered where a layer with half-thickness$\alpha$slides with speed V between two half-planes which are rigid and non-conducting. The advantage of this properlysimple model permits us to deduce analytically the critical conditions for the onset of instability, which is the relation between the critical speed and the growth rate of the interface temperature and pressure. Symmetrical component of pressure and temperature distribution at the layer interfaces can be more unstable than antisymmetrical component. As the thickness $\alpha$ reduces, the system becomes more apt to thermoelastic instability. For perturbations with wave number smaller than the critical$m_{cr}$ the temperature increases with m vice versa for perturbations with wave number larges than $m_{cr}$ , the temperature decreases with m.
Bi based superconducting thin films were fabricated by 4-target RF magnetron sputtering using the method of controlling the on-off time. These thin films showed better crystal structures. The ratio of Cu/Bi decreased but the critical temperature increased with increasing the temperature of the substrate. High temperature phase low temperature of the substrate. High temperature phase low temperature phase and semiconducting phase can be formed by controlling the on-off time of the shutter respectively.
