In this work, effects of oxygen plasma on surface characteristics of carbon fibers were investigated in mechanical properties interfacial of carbon fibers-reinforced composites. The surface properties of the carbon fibers were determined by acid/base values, FT-IR, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Also, the mechanical properties of the composites were studied in and critical stress intensity factor ($K_{IC}$) and critical strain energy release rate mode II ($G_{IIC}$) measurements. As experimental results, the $O_{lS}/C_{lS}$ ratio of the carbon fiber surfaces treated by oxygen plasma was increased compared to that of untreated ones, possibly due to development of oxygen-containing functional groups. The mechanical properties of the composites, including $K_{IC}$ and $G_{IIC}$ had been improved in the oxygen plasma on fibers. These results could be explained that the oxygen plasma was resulted in the increase of the adhesion of between fibers and matrix in a composite system.

In this work, the diglycidylether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) and modified polyurethane (PU) blends were initiated by N-benzylpyrazinium hexafluoroantimonate (BPH). The cure and fracture toughness of neat DGEBA with the addition of PU were investigated. The cure properties of DGEBA/PU blend system were examined by DSC and near-IR measurements. The fracture touhtness were investigated by measuring the critical stress intensity factor ($K_{IC}$) and the critical strain energy release rate ($G_{IC}$). According to the results, the maximum values of owe activation energy ($E_a$) and conversion (${\alpha}$) were found at 10 phr of PU. Also the $K_{IC}$ showed a similar behavior with the results of conversion. These results were probably due to increase of crosslinking density in the blends resulted from increase of the hydrogen bonding between the hydroxyl groups of DGEBA and isocyanate groups of PU.
A derivation of new release limit, named Derived Release Limit(DRL), into the atomsphere from a reference nuclear power plant has been performed on the basis of the new system of dose limitation recommended by the ICRP, instead of the (MPC)a limit which has been currently used until now as a general standard for radioactive effluents in Korea. In DRL Calculation, a Concentration Factor Method was applied, in which the concentrations of long-term routinely released radionuclides were in equilibrium with dose in environment under the steady state condition. The analytical model used in the exposure pathway analysis was the one which has been suggested by the USNRC and the exposure limits applied in this analysis were those recommended by the USEPA lately. In the exposure pathway analysis, all of the pathways are not considered and some may be excluded either because they are not applicable or their contribution to the exposure is insignificant compared with other pathways. In case, the environmental model developed in this study was applied to the Kori nuclear power plant as the reference power plant, the highest DRL value was calculated to be as $9.10{\times}10^6Ci/yr$ for Kr-85 in external whole body exposure from the semi-infinite radioactive cloud, while the lowest DRL value was observed 3.64Ci/yr for Co-60 in external whole body exposure from the contaminated ground, by the radioactive particulates. The most critical exposure pathway to an individual in the unrestricted area of interest (Kilchun-Ri, 1.3 km to the north of the release point) seems to be the exposure pathway from the contaminated ground and the most critical radionuclide in all pathways appears to be Co-60 in the same pathway. When comparing the actual release rate from KNU-l in 1982 with the DRL's obtained here the release of radionuclides from KNU-1 were much lower than the DRL's and it could be conclued that the exposure to an individual had been kept below the exposure limits recommended by the USEPA.

This paper describes the effect of loading rate, specimen geometries and material properties for ModeⅠ and Mode Ⅱ interlaminar fracture toughness of hybrid composite by using double cantilever beam (DCB) and end notched flexure (ENF) specimen. In the range of loading rate 0.2~20mm/min, there is found to be no significant effect of loading rate with the value of critical energy release rate (Gc).The value of Gc for variation of initial crack length are nearly similar values when material properties are CF/CF and GF/GF, however, the value of Gc are highest with the increasing intial crack length at CF/GF. The SEM photographs show good fiber distribution and interfacial bonding of hybrid composites when the moulding is the CF/GF.

This paper describes the effect of loading rate, specimen geometries and material properties for Mode I interlaminar fracture toughness of hybrid composite by using double cantilever beam (DCB) specimen. In the range of loading rate 0.2-20mm/min, there is found to be no significant effect of loading rate with the value of critical energy release rate (G_IC). The value of $G_IC$ for variation of initial crack length are nearly similar values when material properties are CF/CF and GF/GF, however, the value of $G_IC/$ are highest with the increasing initial crack length at CF/GF. The SEM photographs show good fiber distribution and interfacial bonding of hybrid composites when the moulding is the CF/GF
The investigate the effect of fiber orientation on the interlaminar fracture toughness of carbon fiber reinforced plastics three prepregs which are domestic products are used in this paper. Those are used for the unidirectional composites, but only one is used for the cross-ply laminate composites which is molded $[0/90]_{6s},\;[0/45]_{6s},\;and\;[0/45/90]_{4s}$. The specimens used for the mode I and mode II Tests are DCB and ENF samples are examined by scanning electron microscope(SEM). The value of $G_{IC}$ is almost same when modified three calculating methods are applied. The highest value of $G_{IC}$at crack initiation is obtained at the $[0/90]_{6s}$ interlaminar and the lowest one is at the $[0/45/90]_{4s}$ interlaminar. The highest value of $G_{IIC}$ at crack initiation, however, is obtained at the $[0/90]_{6s}$ interlaminar and the lowest one is at the $[0/45]_{6s}$. The photographs of SEM show a difference behaviour between mode I and mode II fracture surface.
Polymeric composites can be subjected to a wide variety of environmemtal conditions in practical use. One of most important conditions to be considered in the stuctural design using such materials is the miisture envirnment. Thus the moisture effect on interlaminar fracture toughness $G_IC$ and $G_IIC$ of CFRP(carbon fiber reinforced plastic) composed of carbon fibers and epoxy resin is studied in this paper. Specimens were first processed in 25, 50, $80^{\circ}C$ flesh water and $25^{\circ}C$ sea water for various periods of time. After that, the water absorption and fracture toughness tests were performed under laboratory atmosphere. As result, the specimen processed in $80^{\circ}C$ flesh water indicates the highest misture absorbing capability, the second in $50^{\circ}C$ flesh water, the third in $25^{\circ}C$ sea water, and the specimen in $25^{\circ}C$ flesh water does the lowest. The interlaminar fracture toughness $G_IC$ increases, approaches to the maximum, and decreases as the immersion time increases. In case of interlaminar $G_IIC$, the value of the specimen processed in $80^{\circ}C$ flesh water turns out to be higher than others. In addition, the scanning electron micrographs(SEM) of fracture surfaces were also examined in order to explain the mechanism of fracture.

Due to the inherently poor adhesion strength of Cu-based leadframe/EMC (Epoxy Molding Compound) interface, popcorn cracking of thin plastic packages frequently occurs during the solder reflow process. In the present work, in order to enhance the adhesion strength of Cu-based leadframe/EMC interface, black-oxide layer was formed on the leadframe surface by chemical oxidation of leadframe, and then oxidized leadframe sheets were molded with EMC and machined to form SDCB (Sandwiched Double-Cantilever Beam) and SBN (Sandwiched Brazil-Nut) specimens. SDCB and SBN specimens were designed to measure the adhesion strength between leadframe and EMC in terms of critical energy-release rate under quasi-Mode I ($G_{IC}$ ) and mixed Mode loading ($G_{C}$ /) conditions, respectively. Results showed that black-oxide treatment of Cu-based leadframe initially introduced pebble-like X$C_2$O crystals with smooth facets on its surface, and after the full growth of $Cu_2$O layer, acicular CuO crystals were formed atop of the $Cu_2$O layer. According to the result of SDCB test, $Cu_2$O crystals on the leadframe surface did not increase ($G_{IC}$), however, acicular CuO crystals on the $Cu_2$O layer enhanced $G_{IC}$ considerably. The main reason for the adhesion improvement seems to be associated with the adhesion of CuO to EMC by mechanical interlocking mechanism. On the other hand, as the Mode II component increased, $G_{C}$ was increased, and when the phase angle was -34$^{\circ}$, crack Kinking into EMC was occured.d.
Carbon fiber has excellent specific strength, corrosion resistance and heat resistance. And p-Aramid fiber has high toughness and heat resistance and high elasticity, and is used in various fields such as industrial protective materials, bulletproof helmets and vests, as well as industrial fields. However, carbon fiber is relatively expensive, and is susceptible to brittle fracture behavior due to its low fracture strain. On the other hand, the aramid fiber tends to decrease in elastic modulus and strength when applied to the epoxy matrix, but it is inexpensive and has higher elongation and fracture toughness than carbon fiber. Thus the twill hybrid carbonaramid fiber reinforced composite laminate composite was investigated for a delamination fracture toughness under Mode I loading by 2 kinds of MBT and MCC deduction. The specimen was fabricated with 20 hybrid fabric plies. The initial crack was made by inserting the teflon tape in the center plane with a0/W=0.5 length. The results show that SERR(Strain Energy Release Rate) as the critical and stable delamination fracture toughness were 0.09 kJ/㎡, 0.386 kJ/㎡ by MBT deduction, and 0.192 kJ/㎡, 0.67 kJ/㎡ by MCC deduction, respectively.

It becomes critical to understand an energy coupling mechanism between flow perturbations and combustion heat release rate fluctuations for the understanding of high-frequency combustion instabilities occurring in high-performance combustion/propulsion systems. A significant amount of experimental researches have been carried out to understand flame dynamic characteristics by use of flame transfer functions with artificial flow disturbances. Among them, there exist substantial studies on flame response by the excitation of inlet flow. Recently, experimental studies simulating transversal modes excited in actual combustion systems are under way.
